Sigh. Thank you, WWE, for yet another way to push that part of the fanbase that ALREADY dislikes Cena even FARTHER away. Nice. Cena's last bit of edginess has been yoinked. Next, he'll be parading out on to the stage with a Bobby Lashley 'I'm so nice and let's have candy' smile on his face and start promoting D.A.R.E while still swearing he's more hardcore than any other guy out there. They could just like and keep 'FU' and just say it stands for Fancy Unicorns or Faraway Universes or something. People... it's name of a finisher for a guy that most of us don't like that much. It's not that big of a deal. If Lesnar was still around, that would be one thing, but he isn't. Yeah, it could be because of the "kid friendly" thing everyone seems to love freaking out about, but it could be any number of things. Maybe some writer didn't understand what it meant. Maybe Cena himself wanted to change it. Maybe someone felt it was time for a change. We really don't know, nor do I care. It's just a name.

No one seems to be reacting to the fact that JR kind of implies fans who understand the business to be dangerous, somehow. Which means here on Wrestlecrap, where we discuss the "real" end of wrestling as well as the kayfabe... Well, let's just say www.youtube.com/watch?v=czCqMWRFVg4I think it's a given that the pitchforks and torches will be outside of the Titan Tower come morning. Is it even called Titan Tower anymore?

It may be just a name, but it was a name that, supposedly, had something to do with the character of the, erm, character of John Cena.

I wish I could find the post that suggested he call his fancy schmancy new STF finisher the "STFU"... I could sue WWE.

I wish I could find the post that suggested he call his fancy schmancy new STF finisher the "STFU"... I could sue WWE. I said it actually. It was that I Quit match with Chris Masters. All night the announcers were speculating about whether or not Cena knew any finishers. Then he slaps on the STF and I said in the Raw thread: "Hey look! It's the STF-U! Get it?" then the next week they actually called it that on the air.

I understand that they want to change the name as it doesn't fit in with the kiddie image. But what I dont understand is why they are changing the name of a move that he has used for the past 6 years.

I honestly don't think it'll stick. Announcers will probably slip-up and call it the FU. Most fans will probably still refer to it as the FU. At least at first.

Well, if the FU is gonna be the Throwback, they should rename his flipping neck snap the Chain Reaction or the Chain Drive. The name "FU" has been misplaced since Brock left. Do they still call his blue thunder slam the Killswitch? Killswitch is probably too edgy for kiddie WWE. A more appropriate name would be the Parental Control Switch.

I had no idea people would get so upset about them renaming the FU...as if John Cena--John, mothersnorking Cena, the whitebread babyface who does Harry Caray impressions--is the last remnant of gritty, edgy WWE programming.
side note: I really, really dislike these filters sometimes...

While I've got no issue with changing it cuz it's always been a dopey name ( and honestly, I think using initials to be 'edgy' is about the least edgy thing they coulda done anyway).. seems odd to do it now that it's been established for several years.
