Ok now that I've digested what went down a bit more, here's my considered viewpoint. After this I won't contribute further to the length of this thread.
Wrestlers should be just like any other performers. They're human beings who have lives outside of the wrestling environment and don't deserve to be harrassed, and I think the security people really dropped the ball in this incident. At the same time my personal view is that there's NO excuse for a right minded person to punch people in the face unless it's an absolute necessity to defend yourself. As far as I can see no one threw a punch at Jericho before he threw one. Jericho could've shoved her out the way, shut the door and driven off, but instead he had to throw a punch and throw a fit. And taking my 'pro wrestling mark' hat off and putting on my 'real world ethics' one on (which some of those fans failed to do) Jericho will have to face up to the consequences of his actions. But given the messiness of what seemed to happen, if it goes any further with the police and media, hopefully an apology from both sides will suffice in bringing this matter to a close. Jericho seems like a rational intelligent person most of the time, so I think once he's calmed down he'll be somewhat remorseful for how it got out of hand, provided that some of these fans learn better to separate reality from fiction.

The point's been made, but I'm pretty sure Orton's punched people squarely after less provocation.
And he's main eventing Wrestlemania.

I don't blame Jericho one bit. You guys have to remember back in the 70s and 80s this sort of thing happened all the time. Wrestlers did not give a shit who they hit. They would go threw crowds and just start throwing haymakers at whoever was in there way.
Jericho was surrounded and could not drive off. the lady was at total fault for getting in front of his car. Then once the guy slammed his door shut which could have shut his leg or arm and really injured Jericho that right there is assault and battery.
IN the second video you can clearly see the woman lunge herself at him making him punch her in self defense.

...some people can't seperate the real from the fantasy, man. Jeez. He plays "Chris Jericho". His real name is Chris Irvine.
I wonder if people run into that Sylar dude from "Heroes" and try to start crap up with him?

I bet that if Batista or even John Cena were in Jericho 's place the internet would be all over them, but since they don't have the "workrate" that Jericho has, Jericho's the man. I'm not trying to offend anybody, but my opinion is that both sides were equally wrong. You're not trying to offend anyone, but still had to take a shot at those who are taking Jericho's side (and thus must be obsessed with "workrate")? And yes, if this was Batista or Khali or Snitsky or Lashley or Vince Russo, I'd feel the same way. This. And I couldn't care less about "workrate" either.

After reading a few reports on it and seeing a video, I think Jericho was 100% justified in his actions. It's fans like those who give wrestling fans a bad name.

If someone tried to intimidate me like that I'd punch them too.
Then run away...

I was wondering how long it would take for the horribly flawed, blindly assuming "if it wuz _____ you'd be different!!!" argument to surface. After watching the videos and talking with Deadpool about it last night, I still feel Jericho is 99%, if not 100% justified in his actions. If someone wants to tell me it's because I'm a huge Jericho fan and that's the only reason, trash talk away. I know it's not the case, but it's no use bothering with some people.

I think the security guards are the real losers here. You can't just stand back and let this go on. If my Dad was there (he worked in the security field for about 20-25 years) and a person went after him or someone/something he was protecting, he would've broken that person's arm. He wouldn't have just stood there and watched. Also: ...some people can't seperate the real from the fantasy. Thank you for saying this man. 150% the truth.

i too think that if this was batista people would be coming down a lot harder on him and various members of this forum would be forming a lynch mob as we speak
that said, jericho is still right and will get off scot free, thankfully theres enough in this for any half decent lawyer to be able to shoot down any charges with his eyes closed, im more worried about him getting de-pushed in an effort by wwe to signify that they dont condone the incident, especially if the media jump on it, and double especially if they make the obvious connection with benoit being his friend and a mentor to him, also having issues controlling his rage

When I saw this the first thing I thought was "No, not Jericho" I just finished reading his book about a week ago and he seems like such a great guy from the book. The same way Foley just becomes such a better guy after you read his book.
With that being said, also reading Jericho's book he talks about the times he has had guns pulled on him by people as well as other weapons. Using my logic (if I have any) Jericho was justified, who's to say that a crazy fan that first stops his car and then everyone gets into an altercation and she lunges at him doesn't have a gun or a knife? How in the world is Jericho suppose to know? The guy has had some serious experiences and this is total self defense. Maybe charges are filed and he is found guilty but knowing his situation as a performer and his past I think he will be able to justify himself. And just as he was yelling at security, they should have been doing their job much better.

In that sort of situation, its all reaction. Based on the videos, he was justified and I'd have punched a bitch too.

Forget about Jericho. Put yourself in this situation. If it was me, I'd probably still be there throwing punches. Security should all lose their jobs today.
