If the article was correct and the main people involved attacking Chris were 20 years old then they should know better. Security should have been a whole helluva more proactive in preventing this incident as well.
I agree with the ladies post above mine. If you rush out into the middle of a street, jump on the hood of someone's car, get in the face of someone who more than likely has at least 100 lbs and a couple inches on you then you're asking for trouble.

It seems to me this would have gotten really nasty if he stayed in the car. If you have a bunch of folks blocking him, and taunting, he's blowing the horn...I wonder how long it takes before people start rocking the car, or trying to break the windows out...that sort of thing. Mob mentality I guess.

Jericho was in the right. The crazy broad practically stepped into his car while he was getting in just to stretch the out/get the last word in. You'd have to be a pretty big pansy to let somebody get away with that.

Dude, all this "he hit a girl, OMGZ!!!" crap is ridiculous. And guess what? I am a girl. GASP!!!! (also ... I have a mother and a sister. So. ;P) If she had just shoved him, continued to heckle him. Sure. Punching her would be uncalled for. But she reached into his vehicle and shoved him AGAIN. She had already invaded his personal space MULTIPLE times before, she got in the way of his vehicle, threatened him (legitimately, too - it was, what, technically 50 on 1? Security doesn't count, as they HARDLY intervened..) and she had SPIT on him. She is a dumb. bitch. Nothing else to that. You absolutely do not disrespect someone like that and expect to get off olly-olly-oxen-free. That's just basic manners, first of all. Jericho was TRYING to leave, and she egged him on some more. Don't start anything, and there won't BE anything. Yes, he could've been a better person and just let it go. But tempers flare, people react instead of think first. MOST people would've slugged whoever the snork shoved him without thinking twice about it. So don't say "he struck a woman, he's completely out of line", when honestly? You would've retaliated in THAT situation in pretty much the same way. Fact of it is, if she wouldn't have done it to any other man (or anyone else period) she shouldn't have done it to Jericho. i agree. I guess I just wanted to lay down a distinction between punching a woman because she was a bitch, or punching her because he felt threatened because of the mob. I am not in no way excusing this woman's action, I was just concerned with a few of the comments I read here, that is all. This woman and whoever she was with belong in jail. She had no concern for the safety of herself, Jericho, but more importantly to me, the children around there.

I haven't read all 35+ pages, most of which are probably the same opinions over and over. I'll just throw my two cents in.
Jericho should have never gotten out of the car in the first place. No good was going to come out of it. That being said, I'm willing to bet that he exited the car in an attempt to flag down security. Bad and completely idiotic decision, if that's what it was. he should've just honked the horn instead.
If he had a cell phone on him, he should have called the local authorities to come and break up the mob.
But he did get out of the car. And I'm sorry, but the fan closing the door on him WAS provocation.
I didn't see Jericho spit on anybody. Could be just me going blind, though.
The woman who got laid out reached out and grabbed Jericho. If I were in that situation, I would have done the exact same thing. The mob was increasingly angry (the fault of everybody involved), and Jericho had no idea what she was going to do next. For all he knew, she could have had a weapon of some kind. She reached for him, and deserved to get floored as a result. She does not get a free pass for being a woman.
Everybody was at fault. The crowd was especially unruly and antagonistic. Jericho got out of the car unnecessarily and overreacted even after the situation was brought under control. And the security guards involved weren't doing enough to handle the situation.
That being said, I'm willing to bet that 95% of us would have acted in a similar manner if put in Jericho's position.

isn't that what you kept telling him to do anyways? At first, then he had to throw the first punch. The WWE "statement" says they were looking for the couple that fled the scene yet makes no qualms about Jericho leaving the scene. It's like a car accident, if you're involved in the accident, you don't leave the scene. If there is a fight and the cops are called, both parties have to stay. So no one can question the couple for fleeing if Jericho did the same god damn thing. It's a double standard. YOu are so wrong its not even funny. Feeling the scene means leaving before the cops got there. Jericho was still there when the police arrived. He didn't flee at all. Your argument totally fails.

They deny that Jericho hit the woman at all, though you can clearly see him punching her after she reached for him. They're just in "Damage Control" mode.

Man, I wonder if Vince is gonna release him over this. It doesn't look good for Jericho, regardless of whether he was right (which I believe he was, to a certain extent).

Why do I get the feeling this may have given Chris Jericho a real shot to win the belt this Sunday that he probably didnt have before?

Suspended or fined, possibly. I mean, look what Randy Orton has done and he is main eventing Wrestlemania. RVD got busted for pot. He wasn't fired. Ashley wasn't fired after being shown to be a hooker. No reason to think that Jericho will be fired.

But Jericho is very easy to track down and if security told him to go, there is really no issue.; But the couple fled becuase they knew their butts were about ready to be hauled off to jail. As it was they eventually got arrested and hauled there anyway.

I've been in fights where I have been outnumbered, and my dad has been in actual riots before. Jericho was simply defending himself and had every right to leave.
Let me get this right: Y2J leaves in his vehicle only to be surrounded by fans in traffic. Unless he runs one of them over, he really can't get away. It also doesn't matter if it was a woman that hit him or an old man: in this society people carry around guns and bladed weapons. What is the man supposed to do? Stand around for the cops and wait to get shot by some angry mob?
It's very clear which fans live in a fantasy land and which ones have actually been in a fight. YOU NEVER STAY AT THE SCENE IF THE ODDS ARE OVERWHELMING!!!!!! My brother beat the crap out of some guy taunting his girl at a party, and we quickly found ourselves in a 3 on 10 situation. When you kick the crap out of someone, they will try to kill you especially if you just dominated them in a fight and made a fool out of them. If Jericho didn't flee, he likely would join the ranks of Eddie Guerrero as a deceased wrestler.
If anything, this is only going to enhance his character on TV and I hope this gets played up on RAW like Flairs road rage......and coincidentally Flair and Jericho are running and angle tonight.
This stuff writes itself!

i think everyone in this situation could've acted better:
security were just stood there, doing bugger all. had they done their job, this situation wouldn't have happened.
the fans (the one sjericho was fighting at least) wanted a fight. you surround someone's car, call them a disgrace to their country, and put your hands on them, take a guess what's gonna happen.
jericho could've handled it much better. getting out of the car wasn't that wise, even if it was the obvious course of action. after that, maybe a punch or two was justified, but full on snapping and punching indiscriminately is wrong.
however, of those three parties, two of them were completely in control. the fans created the situation, security did nothing to stop it. jericho was in "survival mode". he panicked, and went postal. whther he acted morally right or wrong is debatable, but he was the one backed into a corner, he was the one who didn't want to be there. everyone acted like an assclown, but jericho's position is the only one where i can't honestly say "i wouldn't have done that", because as much as i wouldn't want to do that, because of how extreme his situation was, i can't say 100% what i'd do.

Well, as that happens, the chick lunges at Jericho AGAIN, and this time Jericho actually punches the woman in the face, and shoves her to the ground. This is my favorite part. That f***ing bitch deserved everything she got, as did everybody else. I probably would've done even more to her. In my personal opinion, this is where not doing anything to the opposite gender stops. She wants to fight a man, she deserves to be retaliated against as if she is one.
