Finally saw Cloverfield and I enjoyed it for what it was. My friends get all antsy because it suddenly ends but I'm thinking, "it's recovered footage, so you know they died, or else they should have had interviews or the like with the survivors." At least that's what I was thinking immediately afterward. Then again, I liked The Blair Witch Project, so maybe I'm weird. I still like The Blair Witch Project quite a bit too, BRB. Another film that falls into the "too successful and thus becomes cool to trash" category. I hated that movie before it was "cool to hate." F*** that movie. 90 minutes of three HIGHLY unlikeable kids dropping f-bombs and s-bombs like they've never learned any other words in the entire time they've been alive. Anyway, I just re-watched Swamp Thing a few hours back, and I enjoyed it. Not the best horror movie in the world, nor is it the best comic book movie in the world, but its a decent little popcorn movie and it felt like a pretty good throwback to Universal's less-loved (by the general populace) monster movies of the 30s-50s. 3 stars out of 5.

I think I may have just found the most tasteless and Horrible horror movie of all time I'll say more when I'm done but I'm only half way through and it is horrible Dunno about tasteless, but FIVE ACROSS THE EYES has to be the worst, most worthless horror movie, or movie PERIOD that I have ever in my LIFE laid eyes on. A waste of the film required to make it, the plastic for the disc, and the time it took to make it.

Has anyone here seen Dead Snow? If not check it out, Norwegian Nazi Zombie horror, which definitely borrows from Evil Dead, absolute joy to watch. Made by someone who clearly understands how to a horror comedy, without making it a parody or just pure ridiculous. Genius tagline: Ein! Zwei! DIE! Also best moral in a film ever: Nazi Gold belong to Nazi Zombies take and you will snorked up. I was gonna see that but thought it didn't come out till next month? Also can any of you tell me if My Bloody Valentine is any good out of 3D? I really that it was poor outside of the 3D, I mean you look at things and think hmm this might have been cool in 3D, but as a film it's just poor. Well definitely see Dead Snow couldn't recommend it enough.

While I'm not a fan of the Ju-On/Grudge franchise(s), I figured someone around here might be interested:

I recently re-watched House by the Cemetery (something I said I would do eons ago). Here's a brief synopsis:
A family moves into a house...by a Cemetery. While there, people act suspiciously around them, and just about anyone who comes to the house winds up dying a gruesome death at the hands of a mysterious killer. The patriarch of this family sets about discovering the house's history, unaware of just how close to death's door his wife and son actually are.
I still find it quite engaging. The annoying kids aren't all that annoying (compared to other children in horror movies), the adults are a generally likeable lot, and Ann the babysitter is cute in a way I can't fully explain.
The movie certainly has its flaws, as characters bring up mysterious events prior to the film's beginning, and those events never match up with anything or receive any resolution. And some plot threads that actually do resolve themselves don't do so in a way that makes much sense. But, that's Italian horror for you. The gore is still amazingly disgusting, at least! *thumbs up*
But I had a lot of fun with this movie despite those flaws. Maybe its because I saw it when I was a really little kid and it stuck with me, maybe its because early 80s synthesizer scores are really creepy to me, or maybe its just because I love Fulci (the director, though the guy who posts on here is pretty cool, too), but for whatever reason, I really dig this movie.
4 stars out of 5.

While I haven't seen it, House by the Cemetery sounds awesome to me FOR all of the flaws you mentioned - threads that don't really add up and a plot that's really secondary to over-the-top murder after over-the-top murder, and synthesizer music? Sounds like the Argento movies that I love so much.
And here I was all ready to come in this thread just now and post something really stupid about how I'll never let this thread die, and how on seemingly a weekly basis I convince myself that I'm going to take a full month off from posting on here only for this thread to bring me back, and I'm greeted with an awesome review of a Lucio Fulci movie. Thanks, DSR!

Awwww shucks. *blushes* Thanks for the good words DSR. You're a man among men, DSR. The way I see it is we aren't that far off on our reviews for HbtC. If you ever seen a italian horror film from this era a lot of the plot doesn't make sense, but you love it because it doesn't attempt to explain it. It's atmosphere more often then not makes up for lack of logic. The only real difference we have is with Bob. His dubbing sounds like a young Veruca Salt (Willy Wonka, not the band) to me.
