Frank Mir just TKO'd arguably one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA history, the almighty Minotaro.
Mir was absolutely phenomenal, and for a submission specialist never let the fight go to the ground and used very calculated striking to the fight being stopped by the ref due to strikes.
This sets up a rematch of Vader/Kenobi proportions: Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir for the title. Both men have said tonight that they don't consider themselves the champion until after this next match.
Lesnar has started to become a more well rounded fighter and has a world of potential ahead of him. He also was introduced to the UFC through his first round tap out loss to Frank Mir.
Mir of course has had a rocky path back to where he's at right now, but he's shown that he's finally starting to learn how to use his gifts better.
This next match has the potential to be one of the biggest and most important fights in UFC history. Lesnar has already proven to be one of the top draws in the company, and he has shown he's taking this sport seriously. If he sticks around in this career he could become one of the best in UFC history, but right now he has to get through Frank Mir, who is also one of the more popular fighters in the company.
EDIT: I also want to point out that this is the first time Nogueira has ever been "finished" so to say.
RESULTS:
Main Card- * Heavyweight bout: Cheick Kongo vs. Mostapha Al Turk: Kongo defeated Al Turk via TKO (Strikes) at 4:37 of round 1.
* Light Heavyweight bout: Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva: Jackson defeated Silva via KO (Punch) at 3:21 of round 1.
* Middleweight bout: C.B. Dollaway vs. Mike Massenzio: Dollaway defeated Massenzio via TKO (Strikes) at 3:01 of round 1
* Interim Heavyweight Championship bout: Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir: Mir defeated Nogueira via TKO (Strikes) at 1:54 of round 2 to become the new UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion and will face Brock Lesnar for the unified title.
* Light Heavyweight Championship bout: Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans: Evans defeated Griffin via TKO (Strikes) at 2:46 of round 3 to become the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

It's a good thing Mir didn't depend so much on his submission stuff; next go-round with Lesnar, he's got to be able to handle Brock standing up as much as he will have to on the ground.

Thanks for altering the title Madison, I wasn't thinking in my excitement.
I honestly don't want to speculate on their next fight. Now that Lesnar has faced legit competition and is more seasoned he's going to be a different fighter than the one that lost to Mir by a rookie mistake.

When about would the Mir vs. Lesnar match be? I'm thinking early summer.

When about would the Mir vs. Lesnar match be? I'm thinking early summer. I think mid-to-late April actually is looking realistic. Mir didn't look like he suffered any major injuries so he probably won't get medically suspended for any major length of time (if at all), and Lesnar is in the same boat. I think it's in UFC's best interest to not hold off to long on this fight.

Yep, which is why I was saying it's exactly right how he didn't rely on his submissions, because Brock won't go down the same way twice I don't think. He may still take Brock with a submission, but I have a feeling there's going to be some major league damage happening between them before they ever make it to the ground next time.

Putting aside how much I like Mir (he's the reason I got into UFC with his arm bar of Sylvia), I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Lesnar quite literally ended the fight within the first minute by strikes.

AAaaaaaaaaaaaaand Rashad Evans beats Forrest Griffin by TKO (punches TO THE FACE!!!!)
Incredible fight. I actually had Forrest winning 20-17 (10-9 first round, 10-8 second) before Evans adapted his game in the third, brought Griffin down, negated his ground game and then was able to tee off on Griffin's face before the TKO.

Yes, great fight in GriffIn/Evans... exciting and surprising finish. Superb.
The Kongo/Al Turk finish was amazing.
Mir/Nogueira : Mir dominated, surprisingly. Great moment.
All in all, good card with some really exciting stuff.

I wish I had seen the fights, cause right now I yelling bullshit at 2/3 of the main fights. But props to Mir and Jackson, go them.

Good, I'm glad Mir won, he's one of my favorites in and out of the cage.

I thought all the fights were pretty good. I don't think anyone expected Mir to beat Noguira that easily at all.
It will be interesting to see Lesnar VS Mir. A lot of people might think Mir has the advantage going into it but if I had to pick right now I'd say Lesnar is going to take him. Lesnar is still very new to MMA but he has raw natural power and talent that has just never been seen before in or out of the UFC.
I wonder if they will save Lesnar VS Mir for UFC 100? I mean it would make sense. They already have up to about UFC 96 fights scheduled for the main events. I would think they would try to pull out something big for UFC 100.

Hopefully the UFC had many new viewers tonight... because if they did, they set themselves up for future buys. This card was awesome. Great, great fights. I had about three or four non-UFC fans over tonight with the usual bunch and even they were jumping during the fights.... they were quite sauced up... but still jumping up.
The UFC usually hits a home run with 3 out of 5 PPVs. Only thing that sucks is that the UFC PPV cost just took a $5 jump here.

The UFC usually hits a home run with 3 out of 5 PPVs. Only thing that sucks is that the UFC PPV cost just took a $5 jump here. This PPV was well worth the price increase. Every fight was exciting start to finish, had great action, and not a single fight went to a decision. You can't ask for anything more than that! I will admit without a shadow of a doubt that Mir surprised me. I know he has striking power (he's shown it before against Wes Sims), but he's more of a ground game guy. His only downfall on his striking game is that he doesn't strike a lot, or quickly. So against a flurry striker like Lesnar he might have an issue. Rashad Evans impressed the hell out of me by being able to withstand offense from Griffin that would usually knock others out, regroup, adapt, and get the TKO. Griffin admitted once he was on the ground he was toast because he was lost due to Evan's punches. Wanderlai needs to hang up the gloves, he's done. He might have one or two fights against up and comers or nobodies left in him, but he's not the main event guy he once was. Taking a look at who he's lost to, who they've lost to, and as Joe Rogan said, "You can only get completely KO'd so many times" Wanderlai needs to call it an end to a great career while he still has some level of fond memories of him left. He doesn't need to Mike Tyson himself. Some people are saying that CB tapped...but if there's one thing in MMA that's for sure is that there are not any 'mistaken' tap outs. Guys will let you know when they're tapping if you don't catch it. CB pulled out a great win after that choke that would doom most other people not named Matt Hughes. You should never hit Cheik Kongo in the balls. Ever.

Watching the replay, I just want to reiterate: NEVER. HIT. KONGO. IN. THE. BALLS.
He gets really mad, and just scary.

I called it in the other thread about the event ;D But I called a submission so I was only half right. So how did Al-Turk hold himself in the octagon? I hope it wasnt a squash match. Boooo I hate Rashad Evans even more now. This is about the equivalent of Audley Harrison winning the WBO world title. Hopefully Rampage will get another title shot and destroy Rashad.

Let's hope Machida doesn't get a title shot soon. Rashad vs Machida is all sorts of boredom. At least Evans is not winning by decision
Rampage vs Rashad seems interesting though
