Perhaps they should bring Zeus back as a special guest.

The only thing that I couldn't get into was Hogan wasn't supposed to be feuding with the actor, just the character. But it was underrated indeed. Well, he WAS feuding with the actor. Basically, the actor was pissed he lost to Hogan in a make-believe movie (*cough*). Anyway, he then started to think he WAS Zeus and decided to beat up the guy playing his on-screen rival--Hogan. ...Yeah, it's still hard to buy. But it is better than Hogan fighting a movie character. That saves it from being a "RoboCop in WCW" level of crap.

I remember watching Surviror Series 89 many years later, for the first time, knowing nothing, and being FASCINATED by Zeus, even though I could tell he was a crappy worker. If they'd have given the same angle to someone who could wrestle beyond choking, or if Tiny Lister had been able to learn quickly, there was a lot of milage in the guy.
Heck the Undertaker started out pretty similar, just being silent instead of insane, see how well that worked.

I remember when he showed up on Nitro I started marking like crazy, from being a little kid when the movie came out, to being a smart ass teenager when he showed up for a week in WCW. Still it was a great mark out moment.

"The secret ingredient in the cauldron of madness"
I love that line. Great promos. Zeus did an awesome job of appearing actually insane and MAcho barely being able to control him. Great stuff - Macho is one of the greatest heel promo delivery guys ever.
Thanks for posting

I read a rumor that Zeus was originally going to be Hogan's opponent for Wrestlemania VI. Can you imagine what that would be like?

I think that is the cool way of doing it...but as far as I can remember they actually were just pretending this was Zeus himself, as if he'd stepped right out of the movie to fight Hogan, rather than it being a driven-insane Tiny Lister (which is a cool concept). And I think Hogan from '88-'91 was an underrated worker all round. I've always pondered what the rest of the roster were really thinking during that period? According to Hulk's (first) book, pretty bloody furious and ready to pounce if Lister was stiff with any of them. Hogan stressed like hell to calm people down and help train Lister to do stuff for maximum threat and minimum chance of injury. So, lots of no-selling and choking in the main.

If it was supposed to be the actor gone nuts, they didn't highlight it at all, never even called him Tiny.

i always wondered we hogan struggled with zeus at sseries(i always thought that sseries 89 made hulk look weak) when he clearly beat up at sslam, there was no mention of that. in hindsight they just should of had the cage match as teh one and only tag match if they werent gonna mention summerslam. maybe they could have gone with a dq ending with hulk vs macho, or even save the bossman cage match for sslam

It did lead to some great commentary.

In a way I look at Zeus as sort of a prototype to a guy that would come in the following season. The Undertaker Unstoppable monster that can't be hurt. But Taker was like 50% more powerful. Zeus could be hurt by going to the eyes or whack him with a foreign object which would let you keep him down long enough for a pin. Zeuz was a pissed off black guy on PCP's but Taker was a guy who died from PCP overdose and was somehow made undead by it and now he walks the earth choking people to death. That doesn't make much sense ...........anyway, Zeuz was better than some of the other goofy gimmicks in 89 but them bringing him back in 96 as Z Gangsta made even my colen spasm.

Smarks, Marks, fans, elites, diehards, rubes, newbies, old school.......you can bitch all you wan't about anything that has happened in wrestling for the past 30 years. NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING comes remotely close to WCW insinuating that "RoboCop" was a REAL being. As if theyre was a real cyborg playing the character in the movie and he just cut his vacation time at Meineke to come help Sting against the Horsemen. Or thinking that Sting went Last Action Hero, with a golden ticket and brought Murphy right out of the movie screen. This was 5 times worse than Zeus. Zeus would be easy enough to spin today. Just have him play the part of a pissy actor who comes out and shoots on Hogan and the film studio for being treated like crap and getting paid only 20% of what Hogan was getting then have him get dragged out of arena's to the point where nobody cares what he has to say and he legitimately goes nuts and attacks Hogan at home or in the parking lot. Attempted man slaughter is nothing new to Vince. It would work. Hell, they had Cena feud with Kevin Federline for Christs sake!!!

Has anybody else realized that Hulk Hogan has now been involved in 2 feuds where at some point, the other guy has managed to fall from a great height? The only difference is Big Show somehow managed to survive a plummet from the top of Cobo Hall, while Zeus died after he fell onto the ring from the rafters.

If you thought the whole Hogan and Zeus was good, you must have a unusually high level of tolerance for crap.

Well, thanks for that insight.
Obviously it wasn't great, but it was underrated. Tiny Lister brought the feud down a lot, Hogan worked his ass off and made him look like a threat. Just Tiny couldn't work worth a damn and wasnt a wrestler so he was never going to stick around.
