Just playing this game now, wow, not played it in a couple of years. What gameplay! And what a roster! Austin, Rock, Cena, Orton, Steiner, Lesnar, Goldberg, Nash, HBK. Just amazing!

If my Playstation never got stolen and my Memory Card with all the epic created characters I made wasn't with it, I would still be playing this game to this very day. I try and I try to recreate the same characters on other games (and will still do so come the 20th), but nothing can beat the feel and overall gameplay of this game. It's not only my favorite wrestling game, but one of my favorite games of all time. Nothing beats a bunch of drunk guys playing tables matches and doing Goldberg roars. I... I miss you, HCTP

Haven't bought a wrestling game since (actually, I bought the following year's SD! vs. Raw and promptly sold it to a friend...it was awful). Still playing it as of a few days ago. Since I'm ready to move on to the PS3 with the new price drop, I hope anyone can step up and give me a new wrestling game equal or better to HCTP for my next gen console.

Was playing it a few weeks ago myself. The copy I recently picked up from Gamestop (no clue what happened to my original) has a weird glitch where CAWs can't fight in the parking garage so my quest to guide a John Morrison CAW to the WWE Championship has kinda fallen short, but eh, still tons of fun.

God, it was so much fun. That and No Mercy. No wrestling game have touched those two as far as I'm concerned.
Part of why it was so awesome was like the OP mentioned, it had such a stacked roster.
And it had Hollywood Rock which makes it the most-perfect-game-ever.

I just used Hollywood Rock to face a young, up and coming kid named John Cena (as of 2003). I got DQ'd for hitting him with the cold steel. EDIT - A steel chair. I didn't pistol whip him.

One of my favorite WWE games along with DOR 2 and No Mercy.
I like SYMs roster a bit more since it has guys like Raven, Hogan, and DDP. HCTP definitely has the better gameplay though.

Remember loving that Shut Your Mouth had an actual in-game draft. So should've done that for GM Mode in later games.

I just like the immense variety of moves & the fact you can roam around the arena and meet people (and subsequently get shouted at in Stephs case.) I still play it occasionly

I'm another who still plays it semi-regularly, 2 player Royal Rumbles or TLCs are great fun.
Plus I made a guy who's move set was created especially for rumbles, he has a giant hand and does the overhand death punch, I call it the elimination club.

This and No mercy for N64 were both excellent games. Occasinally me and a few friends bust out the N64 and get some 4 player royal rumble going, along with a game of goldeneye.

Was a great game looking back on it - Brock Lesnar and Goldberg were the two that were pretty invinsible though when playing friends - owing to everything they do causing twice as much damage. Loved the game - but still would give my favourite wrestling game acolade to No Mercy on the N64.

Pretty sad that even the Rock would be absolutely crushed by Lesnar in the game. Also the first of the Smackdown series to include legends like Jimmy Snuka.
