It's actually pretty weird. When he was on ECW, he was indeed a can't miss prospect. He was good in the ring, good at working the crowd, and good on the mic. (note: I said "good," not great; there was room for improvement). The second he was moved to Raw, he has seemed to be a shell of himself. Aside from the badass entrance with pyro-inducing pushups, Raw has not been kind to him. Raw chews up midcarders and eats them alive. It is not a happy place for them. On ECW, he was given time to grow as a wrestler and as a performer. On Raw, he's basically, as someone else pointed out, Chris Masters with a powerbomb. It is very sad, really. A year ago, Jack Swagger was at the top of my list to be a world champion in a year or two. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if he was taken off of tv for a while, with rumors of a new gimmick surfacing here and there, before silently being future endeavored. Why do they even draft midcarders to Raw? All the writers care about on that show are main eventers, guest hosts, Hornswaggle, and every so often, they'll throw Kofi a bone.
In fact, if I may go off on a rant here, that is what killed Raw for me. I used to watch religiously, but now it is so damn boring. I'm the kind of fan that loves to watch the ascension of the midcarders. I don't know, it was just exciting to me. There is/was nothing like watching your favorite midcarder slowly, but surely ascend to the top of the WWE. The fun was in the chase. From HBK, Stone Cold, to The Rock, to Mankind, to Triple H, to Eddie Guerero to countless others, it was such an awesome moment watching your favorite guy finally reach the brass ring. Nowadays, some people are multiple time world champions before their first year in the company. Also, the same guys are trading the title back and forth; it's such a mess. Edge is a 9 or 10 time world champion and his first title win was 3 years ago and he's taken about 6 months to a year of that 3 years on the injured list! It wouldn't be so bad if the Raw "creative" team actually created storylines for the young guys, which would help them grow into main eventers. Even at Wrestlemania, the midcarders are an afterthought. "We have a couple of popular midcarders here; why write for them when we can plug them into Money in the Bank?" It is frustrating and infuriating.
Sorry about that.
In conclusion, I like Jack Swagger, but I think he is a victim of the death of the midcard.

The fact that you think hes sluggish in the ring, ruins all credibility, in your little shoot. How so?

I also agree that he's seemed to have floundered on Raw, through no fault of his own. One more reason I can only watch like five ten minutes of Raw tops, if that.

Swagger is about as interesting as watching other people's vacation slides. In all fairness, I don't think it's all his fault though. I think Swagger's situation merely a microcosm of what is wrong with the WWE product right now. They have great athletes with loads of potential for success, but it seems like nobody is making any effort with the creative side in order to help them make it to the next level. RAW is the worst offender with this, and I've been finding myself either watching football or finding something else to do with my Monday nights these days.

Another issue is WWE expects every amateur athlete to be the next Kurt Angle, and that doesn't pan out...
Kurt Angle is one incredibly unique individual. The timeline where WWE had trained him to wrestle was insane. The way Kurt Angle describes it in his RF Video Shoot, WWE put some serious pressure on Kurt Angle to understand everything very fast. Luckily for them, Kurt Angle managed. Kurt Angle got so good so fast, Vince literally decided to throw on screen to see if Kurt Angle had mic skills. And luckily, for WWE, Kurt Angle was a natural on the mic.
WWE got lucky once with the Rock, and the got lucky with Kurt Angle. But it's hard to repeat that kind of luck. It's literally like searching the sands for hidden treasure. Chances are, you find nothing.

I don't mind Swagger, but at the same time I don't think that highly of him either. To me, he's just ... there. Just another cocky heel on a show full of them. I don't care either way.

I've been clamoring about this for a long time, and maybe I buy into a wrestler's attire a little too much, but I REFUSE to support or buy into Jack Swagger until they get rid of that GOD AWFUL black and purple singlet. This kid is "THE ALL-AMERICAN AMERICAN", yet there isn't a speck of red, white, or blue on him. I would seriously like the guy a whole lot more if he had better attire. Call me stupid, but I can't help it.
However, this is a problem I have with WWE in general, as I feel ring attires now-a-days have become too generic (too many guys sporting black trunks).

I like Swagger but man he looks dumb as hell when he does his little monkey dance intro. This. I think the guy plays his college career hotshot all american heel gimmick well, but he makes me laugh coming to the ring.

Well, I'm just gonna say what I've said many times before around here, but I guess there's no harm in repeating myself...
I see absolutely no redeeming qualities about him whatsoever. I gave him a chance when he debuted, as I do everyone, but I just don't see anything. He has poor wrestling ability, his mic skills are appalling, and he looks like a moron. I can't take him seriously whatsoever, partly due to his look, partly due to his completely (what MUST be intentionally) comedy value entrance, and of course because he can't wrestle or speak well.
He is a below average performer, and if he really is to make it to the top, he either has a long way to go, or WWE has run out of options entirely.

He suffers from Matt Hardy syndrome. Not particularly bad in anyway. But not particularly great in anyway either.

He's been helped out by having main event matches on ECW with the likes of Matt Hardy, Christian and Finlay who were all capable of making him look like a million bucks. However, that's not to say he didn't really hold up his end, because he's come a long way from his developmental days in terms of wrestling ability and promo skills.
He's still young, and I think he's a decent mat wrestler for a big guy. Given time, he could go a long way in the company. I don't even mind his entrance really - he's a bombastic, cocky heel.

I wanna punch him in the face. Seriously, he's just got one of those annoying mugs where you've GOTTA sock the guy. Swagger's is a face that starts bar fights. If this is part of the intent, then awesome. But there's no way I could sell anyone on the guy. I just don't bullshit that well.

I don't really see anything special in him.
Some people seem to want to build him up as the next Brock Lesnar, but he's nowhere near as intimidating or talented, in any department. And Lesnar had Heyman to put him over on the mic, Swagger's expected to talk for himself, and I just don't see how it can work.
He doesn't look tough, he doesn't sound tough, yet he's supposed to be a big heel, capable of dominating his opponents. Nah, I can't see him ever getting right to the top. Maybe if he put on 50lbs of muscle and got a smart talking manager.

That worked well for Rodney because he had Pete Gas and Joey Abs as his foils. Jack Swagger doesn't have any foils. He's just Generic WWE Heel #634.

I don't really know what to make of Jack Swagger. He appears to be solid in the ring, but I can't bring myself to support this guy. I'm not a fan. I think his entrance fit looks really stupid and the pyro just seems...there. I can see how some people would like him, but I just can't. His swagger (no pun intended) just doesn't sell me on him. Nothing about him stands out in a good way. Had he done things that I said in the beginning (keeping the Red, White, & Blue Thunder Bomb plus naming the Gutwrench the "Swagger Jacker"), I'd be more willing to back this guy.

Swagger could use a manager to help him get over. If he was around 15 years ago, he might have ended up as a member of the Heenan family.

He reminds me of Chris Nowinski without any actual gimmick and a shred of the mic skills.
He is sorta the Eric Angle to Chris Nowinskis Kurt.
There is still time for him to develop of course. They could do a lot more with his gimmick though. I get that douchey jock vibe from him but he needs to go all out with his character like say, Zack Ryder. So far I haven't got much from him beyond WRESTLER GUY.
