They really played off Kenny vs. Johnny, to the point that Johnny had grown his hair out and became noticeably different from the others. Of course, they then dropped the tag titles and proceeded to job their way out of any remaining logic. I always had a fantasy booked angle where Johnny would get kicked out of the Squad, then come back after a month or so with a new look and take out all the Spirit Squad members one by one, eventually coming down to Kenny vs. Johnny. It would have been cool. Yeah...but....the problem with that is...well...you know...it's an exciting mid-card angle...and it would require WWE to put some effort into characters outside of the main event.

I always thought it was to push Kenny.
That worked wonders didn't it?

For a brief time KENNY~! was the top heel on Raw. The High Spirits is still to this day the best 5 person wrestling move ever.

I can't believe so many posters up in here are acting like the Spirit Squad sucked. They had decent moves, their shtick worked and they got over. They shouldn't have been killed off like they were.
And who knows how long the shelf life of their gimmick could've been? If a wrestling superhero could stay over for damn near five years, anybody can if they're worked with right. SS hadn't been around for a year before they started getting booked oddly.

DX constantly squashing them annoyed me, and I hated how they were ended. I just didn't see the appeal in watching DX destroy them over and over again, nor did it make much sense for McMahon to continually back them for months when he could easily employ much more capable heels if he wanted to. Also, it made little sense to give a group so much TV time and emphasis only to randomly job them out and get rid of them.

I really liked The Spirit Squad and I don't like Triple H at all, but DX squashing them never bothered me. IMO the Spirit Squad was never supposed to be taken seriously so them losing didn't really matter. They never lost their heat and were consistently pushed anyway.
