I only loosely followed wrestling in 2006, it's one of my least favorite times in the history of the business. I was just wondering why and how the Spirit Squad was taken off TV. Was there an angle, or did they just inexplicably remove everyone except for Kenny?

Because it sucked?
Anyway, DX literally beat them down, put them in a big packing crate, and put an "OVW" sticker on it.

If I remember correctly, DX shipped them back to OVW. And I literally mean that. They put all of them into a giant box and mailed them to OVW.

Some of them were actually sent back to OVW (not in the fashion they showed, but they did). Most have been released by now.

Yeah, it was after the crate and 'OVW' that I really stopped caring about WWE as I had gotten to only watching RAW at that point and it just seemed like a slap in the face. Like 'Yeah we just spent the last 11 months pushing these guys every week but here's a clever joke that internet fans will understand and let's never speak of this again'.

I loved the Spirit Squad and was very disappointed when they were disbanded. Especially in the manner that it had happened. Not only were they DX's personal job squad for the better part of 5 months, but then they jobbed to the Highlanders in several non title matches, then jobbed to Cryme Tyme several times, and finally started losing to Ric Flair and any other legend they could find laying around. And then DX returned to put the final nail in the coffin. If WWE ever produced a how to manual on how to squander some pretty good prospects, the Spirit Squad could very well be chapter 1. Because you killed 4 off and only one survived. There's really no reason that at least Johnny Jeter and Kenny Doane shouldn't be stars on one of the 3 shows right now. I'd throw in Mondo to but I know about them and size. Mitchell probably had little hope, but who knows what would have happened with a little more time in development. You have to remember he was out with a knee injury in probably about 4 months leading to the Spirit Squad callup and he'd only started in wrestling in 2005. Plus, we never got to see "The Professional" on WWE tv

The Spirit Squad is probably the last thing I really really enjoyed in the WWE. I thought their gimmick was gold, I thought they pulled off the gimmick well and it really got interested in WWE after not watching for a bit. I was extremely bummed out when they got shipped off.

This wouldn't have happened if the guys learned how to cheer IN UNISON after being together for only like a year or so.

If they had a power ranger gimmick instead, they'd still be here.

IMO, Kenny was somewhat overrated but he could still have been used more then they did. At least he got a 2nd chance, but considering his 2nd gimmick was "I have a surname now", he didn't have a whole lot to work with.
There really was no excuse for wasting Johnny and Mikey like they did. Both could have gone alot further. Johnny could easilly have been in the US/IC title picture by now and Mikey would have been great if a CW division was still around.
Mitch was kinda just thrown in to 'fill the void' (Was it Punk who said he didn't want the gimmick?) so I give him the benefit of the doubt that he may have been better if he hadn't been brought up unexperienced and injured. That one "I Suck" promo he did showed he at least was a natural on the mic.
Nicky/Dolph/Kerwin White's Caddy was the lucky one of the 5. He was actually my favorite member towards the end of it, so I'm glad that at least he still has his career in WWE.
Where are the other 4 now anyway?

If everyone in the WWE was fired for sucking we would have a very very thin roster. DX would be gone for a start.

Ken Doane works around the indy scene, and even popped up in Dragon Gate USA to take on 2 Cold Scorpio during their first event. Mike Mondo still wrestles for OVW, as far as I know, and Jeter retired, I think. As for Mitchell, I have no idea.
