If what happened with ECW wasn't sabotage of a sure-fire money maker, I don't know what is. Whether it was cluelessness. Or whether like Paul Heyman has stated, Vince needs competition so badly he'll compete against his own writers. Or maybe he's just resented ECW all these years because that promotions talent and ideas are what got him back to the top and not the behemoths and cartoon chracters that he was selling.

As much as I love ECW I wish they would change the name seeing how it's all most nothing like ECW.

While we're on the topic of new shows that started off promising and later degraded into C-level shows, can we also use this thread to complain about Superstars turning into the new Velocity? Or can we just say that it was inevitable and move on? See I'm guessing that's what the WWE wanted. Build the show up with good matches, get people used to watching WWE then and keep who ever is going to stay watching whatever.

ECW is a tremendous wrestling show to me, barring the use of Abraham Washington, and he's been off it for weeks.
It has good wrestling matches, establishes its guys, focuses on one main angle, and doesn't bloat the show with too many backstage segments. A superbly managed one hour wrestling show.

I don't have a problem with it still being called ECW. I just wish they would stop saying "The Land of Extreme" when talking about it. It's not extreme. There's hardcore/extreme rules matches on it about as regularly as Raw or SmackDown.

I don't see the reason to have a problem with it still being called ECW. It's like the WXO now, the letters are just a logo and a brand, they don't stand for anything anymore. When is the last time you heard anyone say Extreme Championship Wrestling on air when talking about current day ECW? To be fair if I wasn't an old school ECW fan I wouldn't care as much. It just pisses me off that Vince brought it back and then basically said ECW isn't going to work in this day and age, then proceeded to bastardize it. If the old ECW was so bad and that style cant draw fans anymore, then please explain to me the sales of the ECW DVD and the ECW ONS PPV? I like the current show, but I would like it more if it would stand on its own two legs rather than cashing in on a name that supposedly is inferior to Vinces holy product. We all know that Vince used the name to establish a third brand because it was the easiest and laziest way to draw attention, fans, and initial interest. Which, I mean, its fine, Vince bought the rights so he can do whatever he wants...but its not like that is going to make me less pissed about it. Now that the brand is established I would rather it just be called something else now.

I really hated early WWECW. I knew it'd be Vince's watered down version of ECW, but I was still hoping they'd try to recreate the atmosphere the had at the two One Night Stands. Once I accepted it as a Heat on roids I feel in love. ECW is the most consistently entertaining of Brands.

If they were to rename ECW - not that I think they need to - they ought to do it with Tommy Dreamer's retirement.

I think it's really just because of the name. It's like if you absolutely love Porsche cars, and Ferrari buy them out and start calling their stuff Porsches too. Doesn't matter whether the car is good or bad, you really liked those original Porsches.
Well, I'm back from my tangent now. It was nice, and winding.
But I can see why it still upsets some, and why at some point in the future I think a name change (even a slight one like the suggested WECW or something) will happen.

Even if Vince never bought ECW and Paul kept running it, I would bet money ECW would have had to change because the hardcore thing ran its course. An even smaller segment watch that constantly now. Another part about ECW was it was a place for new guys to get their feet wet and a few vets to help them out. Now, you have young guys (Yoshi, Kozlov, Ryder) and some ring vets (Dreamer, Goldust, Christian) helping out.
See ya next week in the "What happened to ECW" thread.
Also, I know people complain about there only being 14 guys on the show, but their chances of being on the show week after week increases than if they had 20 guys.

One of my favourite things about ECW 2006 was how badass Test was. I think he was roided to the gills at the time, but he was having a lot of great matches with people, he looked great and his moveset was f***ing KILLER. That tag match with him and Knox against Sandman and Dreamer tore down the house and got Test, yes TEST, respect from the ECW fans.

I didn't understand why the bought a bunch of old school ECW guys and did NOTHING with them. I mean the likes of Danny Doring, CW Anderson and Justin Credible are all capable of putting on decent matches, but they were hardly (if ever) used.
I mean yeah for a while Sabu got a push, but the others really didn't get much to do, because the WWE was trying to use the brand to get the likes of Mike Knox and Kevin Thorn over.

I think it all went wrong when they did the December to Dismember PPV. Yeah i remember that one being pretty woeful. Wasn't that the one where test almost killed someone with a headstomp off the top? Although its lost all its identity, i can honestly say there isnt a superstar i dislike in ecw atm, and its booked well. Probably my favourite of the current 3 shows.

Yeah, by doing the one thing that kills the careers of modern WWE wrestlers, putting hot women with them.

Thing I question is what they were thinking. Was it in the plan all along to back it down to a random midcarder/developmental show? If so did they expect ratings to hold once they did this?
