I'd say it's to save time in downloading stories for when they're uploaded. Though in typical THQ fashion rather than just put in the limit in regards to uploading things they declared that it was automatic.
Hey, I like the games each year, but I won't deny that they tend to make some truly baffling decisions.

I don't think the limit is to force you to play as the WWE superstars (I think it's down to laziness, obliviousness, and the fact they know some people will buy it whatever happens so they don't care about quality), BUT that said, I wouldn't be surprised. I did see an article a while back along the lines that WWE wanted the CAW mode scrapped. Probably nonsense but with the current product having retconned reactions and altered crowd noises to direct you who to cheer and boo, I wouldn't be surprised.
This limit is very disappointing. Making me reconsider the purchase as pretty much every story I had in mind for story mode is gonna have to be rethought/scrapped now, and story mode was one of the 3 things (Story Mode, updated CAF, CAW alt attires) that made me want to buy the game, while now it seems like a trivial add-on much like Highlight Reel. I have never cared for Career Mode or Road to Wrestlemania. Generic storylnies where you make maybe 5 path choices a story only to have a similar/same end result, or Career mode with just a series of matches to no end, don't exactly thrill me. I'd happily see both of them scrapped for a Story Mode that had a different arrangement. I'd see those modes scrapped for just 10 CAWs total per story as often as you wish.
50 non-wrestling scenes also seems odd- personally I'd rather it was the reverse as I can think of far more segments in a story than matches, but its fine as I still doubt I'll use up 50 in 1 story.
I want the game as I want a new wrestling game but currently I don't think it looks good enough to justify buying. i didnt enjoy SVR 09, so I'd hope '10 is much better, currently I'm not sure.

I for one intend to just put up CAW stuff in chapters. Chapters being like one show a week.
Hey, if they didn't want me to use up all their server space like that, they shouldn't have put a limit. (Waits for "CAW"s can't be used in submitted online stories)
As for stories with actual wrestlers, I'm having Chavo show outrage that the Cruiserweight championship has still not returned to WWE. He enlists the help of Kendrick to tear stuff up till they get their way. Rey and Bourne step in to try and keep the bad cruisers in line only for Bourne to betray Rey because "What Chavo and Brian are saying makes a lot of sense. Unlike you guys, I never even got a chance to win the title thanks to some Leprechaun." Rey and Finlay must then work together to protect Finlay's son.
Also shows several 3 on 1 beat downs of Super Heavyweights.
I realise this story WAS in one of the games basically, so for comic effect Matt Hardy is shown backstage trying to lose enough weight for Chavo, Brian and Evan to let him in their team.

I am not bothered too much, because I generally think it's funnier to put real wrestlers in stupid storylines, like, say, "Triple H hires someone to blow up car so he can collect insurance and fund his affair."

I'm going to do a Voyeur Christian storyline. It's going to be all kinds of awful, but that's the point. He walks in on Superstars (with their respective divas) in the middle of backstage segments, moseys in all confident and smug, shifts his eyes between each and simply mutters--when everyone else is silent--four words.
"I like to watch."
One week, it's Miz and Maryse talking when he interrupts them. Next time, it's Melina and John Morrison. Next, Cryme Tyme and Eve (I'll just toss in a few kayfabed ones for the heck of it), and then whoever else. Where it'll go, I haven't the slightest idea, but I guess that's what I'll figure out when it comes time for that...

See I like to do this, but I normally CAW real wrestlers not in the game, whether ex-WWE, missing current-WWE, or indy/WCW/misc. guys. For example I'd have liked to do some goofy storyline with RVD, but would have to do that Chapters/Episodes suggestion, which is a tad unwieldy. Guess I could try to break it down month by month for stories with just 1 CAW.

Personally, anybody thinking that the CAW limit is the WWE's doing is ridicuous.
If the WWE didn't want us to play as anybody but their guys (and girls), they would order any such create-a-wrestler mode to be removed. Hell, it was a WWF/WWE game the first had the mode to begin with (War Zone).
However, what the WWE does want strict control over is how their wrestlers are presented in the game. This is the reason why we have Superstar palate swap Threads and not "Edit-A-Superstar" like in No Mercy or even Raw 2.
They know all we'd do is just erase people in the game and turn them into something or someone they don't wan't us to (Chris Benoit, for example).
THQ will come up with some lamebrain excuse like "Well, if we had more then ten CAW appearances, it wouldn't work in community sharing"
Okay, then... so, why does the Wii version (which has NO online sharing) have the same limit?
It's THQ not busting their asses enough, not the WWE.

I think, very much like the whole WWE and WCW rivalry meant that both needed to do 110% to win the ratings. With no real rival now (Aside from MMA, but really, that's apples and oranges), WWE can go down to 75% and know they still control the industry.
Likewise, there are no real rivals for the SDVsRaw wrestling crown. The TNA game didn't do that great and Fire Pro (Persuming they still make them) is a little on the "Obscure outside of Hardcore audiences" to match them.
Take sports games. Most sports just have EA behind them so are fine. But for football/soccer we have FIFA AND Pro Evo in a never ending rivalry. Sure, the game stays mostly the same because they've kinda hit their limit on what they can change in football, but they also add new stuff (Like FIFA basically winning the entire Wii market last year with their new features. I even had friends buy a Wii BECAUSE of it) in an attempt to defeat the other. Fifa is winning now I believe but you get my point.
If THQ had a rival company making a wrestling game that could actually beat them, I'm sure they would be improving their games alot more. The problem is that a rival wrestling game on the horizon seems highly unlikely.

Holy shit...I'm watching the Royal Rumble gameplay on X-Play right now and IT LOOKS AMAZING! The Rumble-specific finishers look awesome. Batista Spears his opponent right off the apron. It does appear like you can store finishers though. Batista built up a total of 3.

After thinking about it, Edge had a total of 3 as well. Those have to be the number of times he's won the title during the match! It all makes sense now. EDIT: I watched it on TV. It might be online later.

I mean, I wouldn't expect everyone to get a unique one, but I hope it's more than, say, 3.

It's got one hell of a strong lineup, even if I would of liked Ryder and the Harts. that being said, I am glad Kendrick, Umaga, and Kennedy stayed in. It'll be one hell of an undercard compared to last games.

Maybe he can start messing around with people, then the whole thing erupts into a SAW-like plotline, where Christian traps wrestlers in improbably complicated traps. But instead of crippling or killing wrestlers, it just makes them miss their matches, and they're counted out and they lose. Yeah, you can't do any of that in the game, but imagine if you could. Anyhow, I'm not really focused on the wackiness of the possible plotlines. I'm actually going to be kinda serious with mine, as I'm looking at using it as a tool for my e-fed.

Reading around the CAW forums and SVR2010,there is more restrictions for Divas by the sound of it as you cant use them in violent cut scenes in story mode.I assume it means every scene not just being run down by a car but backstage brawls and such,so if this is true, its another disapointment for me.Being a Joshi/womens wrestling fan,i wanted to create a lot of stuff involving the femals but obviously its looking less and less possible to do a lot of things.Itll suck if you cant have angles with divas backstage other then just cutting promos or interviews and such.
