I'm not surprised that TNA was brought up in the first 10 posts of this thread, but you guys and gals obviously aren't thinking broadly enough:
ZOMG!!! SHANE GOT HIS 3RD STRIKE FOR WELLNESS!!!1! AND THIS IS JUST A VAST CONSPIRACY DESIGNED TO COVER IT UP!!!
In all seriousness, I think this announcement sucks. Shane seemed like a very likable guy from all accounts, and even though the writing on the wall seemed to suggest that Stephanie and Triple H would take over creative when Vince eventually did step aside, I was holding out hope for Shane to take control. He has more of a personality in line with his grandfather, Vince Sr., who is/was one of the more well-respected wrestling promoters in the history of the industry.
Let's face it...WWE has never been taken seriously with Vince as it's head. WWE's always been compared to a "three-ring circus" with Vince being deemed the "ringleader." It's a joke because Vince makes it a joke; he always seems to take on elements of the "Mr. McMahon" character in his interactions with the mainstream media, and that does nothing but turn people away from the product. Unfortunately, I don't think that Steph or Triple H replacing Vince will do anything to eliminate that cartoonish vibe from sports-entertainment...it will only further that stereotype; I was hoping that Shane would be the guy that moves the WWE away from that public perception.

There is one thing that he could do that would make me a permanent Shane O' Mac mark for the rest of my life.
Shane McMahon. New owner of WSX.

Remember when Triple H cut that bizarre promo about cutting off the tail of a dog, which as a result will lead to the dog's death? Who woulda thunk it that Linda McMahon is the collie in this scenario?

Has his stated reason come out yet, or are we just going to throw out ridiculous guesses.
That being said, maybe he wants to help his mother's campaign fulltime. Maybe he wants to spend more time with his family. There are, what, a quarter million scenarios that could be the case? Him going to TNA would be one of the most absurd outcomes possible.

OH NO! THE WWE IS GOING TO END! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Seriously, Shane's awesome. I hope he does well in whatever he pursues, and he'll be a big loss.

*Hrrm*
If ever "must investigate further before forming an opinion" applied, this is it.
Whatever his case turns out be, I will say that the WWE will be poorer without him, in my opinion. Each system needs checks and balances if it is to succeed. A voice of common sense and reason to balance the knee-jerk reactions and the willful and self centered opinions. Shane was that voice, as far as I ever heard. Stephanie and HHH are going to surely miss having that voice during their ascension to the throne and thereafter. Who, in reality, is going to be there to check THEIR bad ideas, or vote down horrible business choices? No one. No one on equal footing with them, anyway.

Honestly, I think Shane getting involved in another wrestling company would drive people away. A few weeks of spiked numbers, maybe, but the core audience would roll their eyes and figure, how long until the simulcast? A lot of TNA's history has been built on their being the alternative to the name McMahon. ROH, similarly, has built itself as the alternative to sports entertainment. I'm not sure about their short-term health with a McMahon buying in. I'm guessing he just wants to live a decent life after hectic years working for his dad. I totally agree. Especially with the key word of simulcast. I think Shane is my favorite McMahon also but what wrestling does need IMHO is alternative promotions not involving the name McMahon.

Seriously, WSX led by Shane McMahon would be the most awesome thing ever not called "sex." Anyway, I'm genuinely shocked. I certainly didn't see that coming, not to mention Shane seemed to be the member of the McMahon family with the most potential to run the show (and that's not to diss the other members of that family, I am convinced they are way more intelligent than people give them credit). I sort of want him to start his own fed. I'm sure it would kick major ass. ANyway, the guy's obviously clever and I'm sure he'll succeed in whatever he plans to do. Also, how weird is it to see a McMahon show humility?

You know something is bad when a MCMAHON leaves WWE. And this is now two of them.

wow after everything he put his body through for his Dad's and for that matter Grandfather's company this is how it ends? Seriously? Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected this...Shane was the heir apparent and had the stature to completely fill Vince's void once the inevitable happens...This is just surreal...

I could see Shane buying Strikeforce or starting his own MMA company to compete with UFC.

I could see Shane buying Strikeforce or starting his own MMA company to compete with UFC. Shane would need to say F*** more before he could compete with UFC. I think Dana has got that market coverd. If he bought Strikeforce though, I think he would do great. He might be better suited to deal with Fedors crazy ass mangement team then anyone.
