A real slap in the face to his father IMO. Vince Jr. carried on Vince Sr.'s legacy etc. and here is Shane peeing on his father's legacy. Whatever happened to tradition? "First and foremost, I would like to thank my father for the incredible education working with him has provided and for giving me the opportunity to play a role in building WWE into the global phenomenon that it is today." Is Shane that stupid to think that the WWE's success is even partly down to him? Hit the road Shane and don't come back. Says who he would ever be Chairman of the company like his father and grandfather were? Vince says he already has the lines of succession ready.

I can't say I'm incredibly surprised. Vince has always favored Steph (and by proxy, HHH) over Shane, and there are probably other things Shane wants to do (whether they be in MMA, or in the Media), and he doesn't want to have Stephanie and HHH be his direct boss.
Maybe Shane knows something we don't about Vince being ready (or having) to step aside?

You may not like Shane O'Mac, and by the looks of things you seem to be in a minority there, but is he really peeing on his Fathers legacy? I know Vince Jr has been wildly successful but it could be argued lying to Vince Snr about going national and putting countless promoters out of work whilst Vince Snr was dying was more of a slap in the face than anything Shane has done.Like I said it worked and made Vince a multi millionaire but he still lied to his dad. As daft as it is to claim Shane leaving will destroy the WWE immediately, although in the long term who knows this could be seen as a catalyst, it is equally daft to say Shane did nothing. Not to mention that Vince basically performed a hostile take-over by getting Vince Sr's most trusted confidants to turn on him and take the company away from his father. What a legacy.

Anyone else feel like we're actually living the beginning of a bad EWR diary? Anyway, I'm hoping that this is either just Shane taking a well-needed break or going into some other business venture, and not a case of the internal workings of the WWE falling apart. And I hope Shane comes back at some point in time because I'm not really sure if I trust Stephanie running the WWE. From various shoots, Steph is an extremely smart person that could run the business side of things, but isnt creative at all. And the thing is I think Triple H has enough respect for the business and is knowledgeable enough to be creative. Of course, he'd have to retire from in-ring competition for it to be taken seriously, let alone good, not to mention not giving rubs to any of his friends. So maybe Steph and Hunter running the company might work, but not for a good 5, maybe 10, years.

HHH basically alluded to that live on TV when he had on the Vince costume.

His job will never be in jeopardy, but he continues to be protective of 'his spot' and the paychecks.

Is this the beginning of the end for the WWE? I don't know but 2 McMahons leaving isn't good news. I mean Vince is getting old and losing it. Stephanie is horrible. The best thing would be for Triple H and another wrestler to take over the company.

All of the speculation arising out of this situation reminds me of this:
Doesn't seem to be too far off from what we've all been discussing today, huh? This looks to be something that has been brewing for a while now. WWE has done this quite a few times....if something interesting is going on backstage, they throw it out there on camera and make an angle out of it.

I'm guessing he's going to help Linda with her campaign. She resigned her position too, but once she loses the election(my prediction) they'll be back. That's my guess.

Fun, but stupid fantasy:
Shane has saved enough capitol to go to the World Wildlife Fund and pay them the money his old man always refused to. That taken care of, Shane proceeds to start up his own wrestling company.
The WWF.
The s*** is, as they say, ON.

Wow. I never thought I'd see the day where a McMahon left the WWE. Yes, I know Linda resigned last month to run for the Senate but that's different. ShaneoMac is gone.
I know Stephanie and HHH were already the heirs apparent but HHH has to be loving that his takeover of the wrestling industry, begun with his courtship of Vince's daughter, is almost complete. Vince better watch it...Steph and HHH might try to gaslight him to get him out of there. But Vince is never going to leave. When he does finally pass away, I'm predicting it will be at some arena where Monday Night Raw is being held.
When HHH takes over, I can just see him with his sleeveless jacket and sledgehammer declaring "It's mine-uh!"
Interesting about Shane maybe going into MMA. It's probably for the best that Vince didn't buy PRIDE a couple of years ago. He would have botched that up worse than the Invasion angle.
Anyway, best of luck, Shane. You've more than earned the right to come out of your father's shadow and I give you a lot of credit for breaking away. Thanks for the memories and best of luck.

I hope the first WWF champ is Bob Backlund and IC Champ is Pat Patterson.

I hope the first WWF champ is Bob Backlund and IC Champ is Pat Patterson. It does bring up a sort of half assed interesting premise. Suppose Shane got up to some shady legal tricks, and absconded with not only the WWF name, but ALL WWF footage, rights, ect. I mean, come right down to it, how many of those ex-wrestlers and former talents out there would want to work for HHH/Steph....and how many would much rather work for Shane? Even if it IS in a lesser promotion? This is all just stupid fantasy, but still. I could see Sting, Goldberg, Austin, Rock, heck, a lot of former talent that Hunter doesn't have great relations with not wanting anything to do with the WWE once Vince steps aside.

And the best part of it would theoretically be how HUGE of a "f*** you" it would be to HHH and Steph and Vince, who would still have to blur and bleep any and all use of the term, while Shane would be free and clear to use it in the US as he saw fit. Not to mention how it would totally F*** the WWE Title lineage. ;D

I always thought Shane didn't want to run the company or be on creative, and preferred to do the corporate aspects. Him leaving entirely is a shock, however. I wonder if something in his personal life with his own family prompted it?

When I was in the audience at Wrestle Mania XX, they showed this brief video featuring Vince and Shane and then panned down to Shane holding a baby. It gave me cold chills in a good way because they had this look that the McMahons were going to control WWE forever.
Now this.
I'm shocked.
