We all know that the original ECW was essentially marketed to adults and teens, but did you know any kids (or were you a kid yourself) who were fans? I was flipping channels and i saw some show on cartoon network that had a kid with an ECW poster on the wall (with drawings of sabu and rvd on it) which is why i asked.

My kid loved it and still watches my old dvds.
But then again this is the child who today came up to me, gave me a chop across the chest and yelled "Kobashi!"

I don't recall seeing any kids in the crowds until the TNN era.

To their credit they really didn't market to kids until then, (and then only if you count the action figures..which in reality was probably marketed moreso to their adult fans).
It wasn't like Attitude era WWF where young kids were watching DX tell people to suck it and Austin flipping people off; like you said I really don;t recall seeing any kids until the TNN days and then very rarely.

There are kids who are more mature than adults who could've handled ECW just fine and not gone nutso.
This is something Phil Mushnick (that irrelevant c***) would go on and on about whenever Meltzer would have him on Observer Live. How WWF (Vince McMahon, specifically), WCW, and ECW are harmful to kids. "THINK OF THE CHILDREN! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" Instead of telling parents to raise their kids or don't have kids at all, everyone else on television or making music has to raise them.

Yeah, a few years ago I posted pics of him trying to put me into a muta lock. I may have to borrow this kid for high-fives.

Of course it was popular. Still is. As for the previous post about kids and wrestling I agree...my child only watches it with the expressed understanding that if he tries in any way to mimic the behavior he sees then he no longer will. Believe it or not he can have RVD and Sabu be two of his favorite wrestlers and not try to kick people OR stab them with forks.

Growing up in Philly, I can say that yes, ECW was popular among kids who were wrestling fans.

Growing up in Philly, I can say that yes, ECW was popular among kids who were wrestling fans. I grew up in Allentown and it was popular there, too. From 95-99, I was 8-12, so I'd say I was a kid. You were pretty popular with the wrestling fans, and most of us at least watched Raw, if you stayed up to watch ECW on WGTN-48 or had tapes and could tell everyone else what happened. When it got to TNN and I was in middle school, a couple more kids started talking about it, but not too many. I think it's popularity in my area had a lot to do with how close we were to Philly and that we got WGTN-48.

I was 11 when we finally got SportsChannel (which was the station ECW was on) and me and my 10-year old brother were huge fans. I said it in 2006 that the only way the new ECW would work is if it was a glorified informercial for the next ECW house show/pay per view with a couple matches thrown in.

My friend got into it when he was 12 or 13. I started watching PPVs with him when I hit 14 (I had crappy cable growing up... no PPV.)

There was a kid in my 4th grade class who used to rave about ECW. That's how I found out about it, but I did not get to watch it until it came to TNN. I liked what I saw, but it seemed tame compared to FMW. Most people around my age thought of ECW as the crazy promotion, but many more watched WWF by 2000. There were a few who stayed with WCW till the end; I couldn't understand why at the time.

I was 9-10 at the height of ECW and every wrestling fan I knew used to stay up and watch ECW just like I did.

I went to a lot of ECW house shows and there were plenty of kids in the crowd.
In fact, at one house show after New Jack cleaned house he brought a little girl [she couldnt have been older than 7] into the ring and danced with her to his theme song. Haha!
Also, my little sister was around six at the time and she always watched ECW with me. Her faves were RVD, Al Snow [she loved the mannequin head gimmick], Sabu, and Taz.
This was in 1998, by the way.
Of course now I expect someone who knows crap all about the original ECW come in here and say only bitter old smarks who wanted to see intense violence liked ECW. Not true, my friends.
