Thanks! Yeah that does seem like a pretty good gimmick. On an unrelated note this match further cemented the fact that Vince is a terrible play by play man. "1 2 HEGOTHIM, no he didn't, YESHEDID, no wait, no he didn't.

Didja catch when Mercy uses the Stun-Gun finisher on Savio, Lawler correctly states that Mercy intended do the manuver, but a surly vince goes, "No he DIDN'T!" ?

Yeah lol. It's pretty bad when Lawler makes you look stupid. Yeah....but this was before Lawler OD'd on VIAGRA, so that his brain was hardwired to his dick. No way that would happen today. King would be too busy with his DIVA's Holiday Special to notice what the hell is even going on in the match. But yeah. That clip was a cool nostalgia trip for me too...glad you liked it! ;D

He was just the kind of edgy heel PBP man that the WWF needed. He was awesome in that time frame. But then something unfortunate happened around the time Sable arrived, and the man became a walking hard-on.

Which is odd because Sable was far older than 14.

What was the Waylon Mercy gimmick? I hear so many people say how much they love it but I can't find any info on it. Watch the movie Cape Fear. Waylon Mercy was based on Robert De Niro's character from the movie. He was awesome. I thought he got hurt and retired, rather than was jobbed out...

1) Raven - it hurt that they changed his look in WWF/E...among other things.
2) Nation of Domination -- yes, they spawned Rocky's push, but had they been as "militant" as LAX, they would have been much more appealing as a stable.
3) Hassan - they screwed it up with the "terrorist" angle. That "victim of 9/11" gimmick was a thing of beauty, and if they wanted to do the terrorist thing anyway, they blew the load way too quickly.
4) Sean O'Haire -- the guy's promos were gold.
5) "Black Heart" Owen Hart -- back when DX "screwed" Bret. This could have been WWF's answer to "Crow" Sting.
6) Heel Orton -- yes, he's heel now, but wasn't he a much better heel when he was with Evolution/feuding with Foley and Benoit. They turned him face way too soon, and now he's forgotten what made him a good heel to begin with.
7) Invasion angle....yeah, don't need to explain that one.
8) Hardys Split -- this should have been the "Rockers break-up" of our time. Too bad Jeff got tired of the business for a while.
9) Matt Hardy, V1 -- cleverly made gimmick, cut short once they moved him to RAW and made him more generic.
10) HHH & Austin (2 man power trip) -- was hoping they'd turn on Vince and make his life a living hell (as sadistic heels with Vince turning face). Too bad H tore his quad.

Too bad H tore his quad. Agreed on Owen. That was his chance to be huge. Heel Orton should have stayed a heel for another few months then turned face gradually I often wonder what would have happened had HHH not been injured. I would have loved to see where the power trip angle was going

Definitely agree on Owen. After Survivor Series, he should of been pushed to the moon as he had a built-in storyline with Vince and DX. Unfortunately for Owen, the WWF was going with Austin's super push, and HBK hurt himself, so there was no where for Owen to go. Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Owen's, but that storyline did have potential.
I'd like to add Jake Roberts as a heel to the list. His heel run in 1986 was cut short because he was getting cheered. Then in 1991 it looked like he was heading into a breakout feud with Ultimate Warrior, but UW left the company shortly afterwards. Roberts and Savage was a great back-up plan, but Warrior had much more main event credibility (than Savage) and could of really pushed Jake to the top of the card. Of course, Jake himself left the company after WM 8, so it was going to be short lived either way.

Planet Stasiak. A guy who runs into things, goes on a losing streak & talks in rhyme. I thought that was the funniest damn thing I'd ever seen on a WWE show! And, as usual, I'm in agreement with Rorschach. And as usual, I LOVE your sig Maxx......is that Cindy? I can't make it out in it's small form, but she looks HOT! Back on topic..... I think that Vader could have been the WWF's next monster heel.....but again, Vader's star was born elsewhere, so he had no chance of making it big in WackeyWorld. How many GREAT talents, as a matter of fact, have suffered thusly at Vince's hands? I mean, just how many folks have had their careers flushed down the hopper because of Vince and Co's shortsightedness? And on a related note, do you think Shane ever sits there and shakes his head and goes, "THAT could've made MILLIONS, Pop!" ? The girl in the sig is called Asshley. Back on topic, Vader had everything McMahon looks for, size, power, promo ability, in-ring skill, charisma. The man really was a total package. Vince totally blew it with The Mastodon! Like you said, McMahon often isn't willing to "forgive" those who worked on top elsewhere (Booker T , RVD & maybe the Dudley Boyz being a few recent exceptions). Why else was DDP slaughtered in his every appearance? Mike Awesome is one of my all-time favourote performers; WWE had him job to Funaki! Even the nWo, the hottest angle of all time, was buried in the confines of McMahonland.

Matt Hardy - back for heartbroken vengeance
Alas, it was not to be due to politics, horrible booking, and his his failure come promo time to live up to the hype that almost everyone got suckered into, including myself.

Great points, Maxx. I had forgotten about Awesome. He also seemingly has everything McMahon wet-dreams about: Size, power, and in ring skills. I really wish Vince hadn't screwed the pooch with Awesome, as in my mind, he'd have been the PERFECT talent to bring in to carry the WWECW belt after RVD's reign went up in smoke.

Awesome always confused me, because he was perfect. Then all I can remember of him in the WWE was him being at the tailor and he asked her to put awesome on both sides of his tights so that everyone could know how Awesome he was. Then Edge and Christian laughed at him, he went out and got squashed.
So much potential lost.

'Taker is partly to blame for that. He gave Awesome's ring-work a scathing review (jealous much?) & thanks to the "locker-room leader" Awesome was buried. You know what the worst part is? He never even got those tights!

I read about this in PWI (or a sister publication) a few years ago. Usually the mags are all kayfabed, so when they include a tidbit like this it's truthful. There were other factors too, though. Paul Heyman, who felt betrayed by Awesome when Mike left for WCW (because Awesome was owed alot of money by ECW), was working in WWF/E at that point & was tight with Vince.

PRO WRESTLING ILLUSTRATED?!?!? Laughable, and if my memory serves me correct, a publication ran by jealous bastards because the Internet has provided a forum for the insider fans to not have to wait three months for all the "leaked info" that these publications had. And if my memory serves me correct again, I remember reading in one of the oh so respected magazines that Heyman actually PUSHED for Awesome, knowing that it would be good business despite what had happened a little over a year earlier.

I'd still have rather had Mike Awesome come through the crowd to DESTROY RVD for the WWECW belt than to have to suffer through the Big Show's reign. All the hell the Big Show's reign was about was burying the ECW Originals and give Paul Wight an end of career present.
Hey Vince, instead of crapping on ECW like that, why not give Paul a goodbye WWE Title run over super Cena?
I mean, that way, at least we'd have had Awesome, an ECW Original (So to speak) taking on all the WWE guys they felt they HAD to bring in.
Too bad about Taker's petty jealousy.
