You know what, I'm wrong. I am getting violently ill despising this movie and the original without even seeing them. As a writer, I should be more open minded.
F*** that. What I've seen of the movies is cheesy and pitifully done. I'm tired of hearing about the "New F-ing" moon, Bella, Edward and everything concerned with it. They're crapping all over the concept of vampires and werewolves by making it "Harry Potter and the Vampire and Werewolf Movie".

Hah, I'd include Mrs. Frisby, of The Secret of NIMH. AWESOME heroine. Still love that movie. But really, I can't say that female-centric fiction has a monopoly on bad messages to people. I like a good brainless action movie with a bad-assed male lead, but a lot of the messages in those movies boil down to "kick ass or be kicked", a philosophy that can ruin one's day if they took it too literally. Harmful morals aren't gender-exclusive by any means. Which is more than fair, but I think just about any of us would say "I love <insert random Arnold/Bruce Willis/Stallone movie here>, but it's a pretty silly action movie, it's just for fun." The fandom we're looking at here is more akin to Star Wars fandom, I think, taking it too seriously. That said, thankfully, most of the fans will outgrow the phase where it borderline defines their life, as I'm sure many of us did when it came to Star Wars (which was my passion from 5th grade through early in high school), but it just really seems like we should be at a point where young girls aren't flooded with messages like this all the time.

It's funny how people who say the books/films send a bad message to young girls automatically when saying this basically equate young girls with being too stupid to read through any message the books/films indeed may offer. Way to build people up by tearing them down! I haven't read the books but I'm familiar enough with them because of a friend of mine. And I've actually seen Twilight. And I didn't like it, but not because of its plot (which more or less so many other films have done... vampires are but window dressing for a clichéd love story). I hated Twilight because it was a poorly made movie. The editing was choppy for no reason, there was a ridiculous use of hand-held, the CG didn't look great, the action scenes were robbed of any possible tension, etc., etc. I actually want to see New Moon out of morbid curiosity, but I know I'm not going to enjoy it. Twilight-mania is a fad. It will pass. Twilight hate is at the point where it is more annoying than Twilight love. Meyer can do whatever she wants in her stories because they're her stories. It just so happened that a lot of people like her stories (for whatever reason, but you could say that of any author really). I don't really care either way. BUT PEOPLE ARE ENJOYING THINGS, BLEARGH! Like, I find American football to be a useless sport and I know there are more people who enjoy football than Twilight (just look at the ratings), but I don't break out in hate hives every Superbowl. I'm talking about 7-10 year old girls. You don't need to be "stupid" to be impressionable. to be fair, the 7-10 year old girl demo. isn't technically supposed to be the target. The movie is rated PG-13, and from what I've heard is basically a page-to-screen adaptation of the book. I mean, if I had a 7 year old, an let them watch things intended more for an audience twice their age, I should expect the repercussions.

Every point to be made has been made so far, so I'll just recap for myself;
I do not like Twilight because;
- The writing is hackneyed - The movie production is really kind of piss poor - The underlying point of the books is terrible
Thats it.
...That said, I have to imagine that Meyer knew full well she was going to get a movie deal. I mean, practically the first thing she mentions when the vampires first show up is "THEY WERE ALL REALLY HOT"

In the past few weeks, I've actually gotten a chance to see some Twilight fans, and I gotta say... I'm disappointed. People make it out like they're all annoying and crazy little girls, but all the ones I've seen seem quite normal. They're no more unusual or fanatical than fans of anything else, be it comic book movies or wrestling. I haven't even gotten much of a response out of them when (jokingy) poking fun at them for sparkling vampires and pedophile werewolves. Here's a quick rundown of the Tomato-meter via Rotten Tomatoes: Twilight- 49% fresh, 193 ratings New Moon- 29% fresh, 118 ratings Yeah, critics aren't too happy with this. Wish that more people actually read into this instead of watching something that could just suck away their money ala vacuums. Yes, heaven forbid that anyone forms his or her own opinion, or even enjoy something that a handful of critics don't.

Ok, as one of the more....ahem, Vocal haters out here I feel the need to weigh in.
I went to a midnight release and I must say.....It's not bad.
What will follow is not a diatribe, rant or otherwise, but a systematic running down of the faults and plusses of the film, those averse to a good argument and any who would rather simply blindly rage against a film they have no intention of seeing may simply want to skip this post and act as if no one was trying to provide an opposing viewpoint...basically S.O.P for the interweb
I think that as far as a Standalone film, it's not a poor film and better than some of the churned out book-to-movie tie-ins have been. As a part of a series it DOES build on the continuity and move along the story and unlike it's predecessor does take the time to at least TRY to flesh out the characters to make them seem more than one dimensional, at least it does for Jacob.
Edward on the other hand is still a wangsty prick for most of the movie, and while I'm very aware that Edward/Bella is the OTP, nothing about his attitude or actions paints him as a sympathetic love interest and Bella's base Mary Sue-Ness coupled with her blank slate characterization make thier pairing one of plot convenience rather than anything resembling an organic emotional connection.
And while I was one to rail on Kristen Stewart for her.....shortcomings as an actress I can honestly say that given the movie's tone and overall mood, her blankness works at times and fades into the backgrounds in others.
The saddest thing I can mention is Robert Pattinson. What strikes me as very odd is that he CAN act and there's a preview for a movie that requires him to do so before New Moon. Once again I think he's trying to be brooding and comes off as a tool, and his near-constant stage whisper becomes grating in situations that don't call for it.
At last we come to the one real bright point of the film in general, Taylor Lautner. He is one of the few people in this movie that actually shows that he can emote correctly and his character development throughout the movie is handled well. What could have been done with needless & plodding exposition is handled with actual scenes and reactions; though the same could not be said about the Edward B-Plot of the movie which is focused on far to long and except for a few quick scenes is mostly exposition and setting up future events (The backbone and curse of a "Middle Movie" in any series)
As far as any technical flaws, very few aside from an early Edward Hallucination scene where you can see the glass that they use to backlight for the illusion (It's an old stage trick of backlighting a mirror or somesuch, and it's only a brief moment early on; but it's one of those things that with the amount of CGI in the film it could have been easily shopped out) andfor some reason "Old Bella" is a Redhead (or possibly she has brown hair and the appearance of gray makes it look red)
I'll freely admit that the movie is FAR from perfect, but given the source material I think it does the best with what is given to them.

Dear sir or madam, I am writing to inform you of the gross misrepresentations your film, book, television production and/or stage production present about Vampires. As a Vampire I am greatly offended by some of the claims you have made about us which include the following; 1. We are not all great looking by human standards: Our defintion of beauty is much different from the definition you humans use and we Vampires find it very offensive that you’ve never come to us to ask what we concider beauty. You humans came close to it with the film Nosferatu but since then you’ve gotten it wrong, wrong, wrong. I’ve attached a photo of myself with this document as, among Vampires I am considered quite attractive. I know to you humans I may appear “ugly” but that is not the point. If you are going to use Vampires in your media you must use them right, which brings me to my next point. 2. It is not right to portray Vampire/Human relationships: It can’t happen and it‘s wrong. To us you humans are merely a source of food. We look at you the way you look at a cow. Would you date a cow? Would you marry a cow? Would you f*** a cow!? If you would, you’re pretty screwed up, just like a Vampire would be considered screwed up if they were to date a human. We can not turn into bats: I have no idea how you people came up with that one. We can control bats and other pests, as you call them, but we can not become them. It’s just stupid. And who in the Hell would want to become a bat? 3. We have not worn capes in decades: They went out of style with us the same time they did with you. Any Vampires who still wear capes are either real old, or real lame hipsters. Yes. We have hipsters too. 4. Taking blood is not pleasant for the person whose being fed upon: If I had a nickle every time I read or saw in a film the victim of a feeding writhing in extasy I’d be a billionaire. It’s not like that at all. It f***ing hurts and feels weird. I certainly didn’t get “excited” when I was being turned into a Vampire. 5. We would never enslave a human being: We’ll feed of you but have no fears, we won’t force you to work for us. That’d just be cruel. 6. We ARE fatally allergic to sunlight: Recently I’ve been seeing Vampires on television and in films standing in the sunlight. This has to stop immediately. I’m afraid to stay out all night nowadays because I’m scared some idiot would assume if the sun comes up I’d be fine. I wouldn’t be, I’d be dead. Would you cram peanuts down the throat of someone who suffers from peanut allergies? I'd hope not. 7. Dracula is not Judas Iscariot: And the movie that was mentioned in sucked. Judas was a sell-out dickhead. He was not and never has been a Vampire. 8. Crosses, garlic and holy water do nothing to us: Crosses still hurt like Hell when someone hits us with one, the garlic makes us smell like flavourful ass and the holy water makes us wet, but it does the same stuff to you folks too. I have many more complaints I wish to address, but I am hungry and must go find something to eat. I hope for a prompt response and a change in the way my species are shown in your media. My next correspondence will not be so kind if these demands are not met. Signed, A concerned Vampire Seriously though, I read the first book the summer before the movie came out and, while not the worst thing I ever read, I'd never read it again. While reading it I actually thought it'd make a better movie. I was wrong. I tried watching it and shut it off when it seemed like for the 10th time in a span of five minutes someone was fawning over how attractive Bella was. There's exposition then there's clubbing the viewer over the head. It ain't me cup'a tea and I'll be passing on New Moon. Not that I think there's anything wrong with liking the series. As someone else pointed out I, as a user of this site, do ocassionally watch men and women put on live combat plays on Monday nights so who am I to judge?

I am going to end up getting dragged to this by some female friends of mine, so I'm fully aware this is not going to be a fun experience for me. But hey, they went and saw WATCHMEN with me, so turn about is fair play I guess. ;D

You know I really don't hate the movies or the books. It's all the advertising and shoving the crap in my face that makes me not like it.

What do I get in NEW MOON? No Bella Swan shower scenes before a swarthy ethnic werewolf has his way with her....nothing of the sort. Holy CRAP did I just make NEW MOON better by inserting one damn scene? ;D

I handled the movie.... made the wife happy.
But I still wish I had some brain bleach. No, not from the movie. But from some of the people there. They made us Star Wars Nerds that go to movies in full costume look pretty normal.

Honestly the hype makes it worse, wait strike that....the Mainstream Hype is what's made it worse. Star Wars fanboys, trekkies/ers, and sci-Fi geeks are still ridiculed for thier level of hype and Twilight Fans are simply accepted because of some unwritten rule.
At this point a 50' Deadpool fighting Godzilla with special guest referee Chuck Norris couldn't live up to the hype.
