Warning, seeing these images may cause head to 'splode. That....thing.....is roughly the size of two PSPs or DSs laid next to each other, which is also about the size of a DVD case...which is about the size of the Nintendo Wii. This thing, when opened, is the size of a home console! And.....I want one....damn you Nintendo.... Also, to give one final image for perspective, in case the size of the box next to a DSi box or the size of the system itself next to a PSP-3000 wasn't enough, here is a little old Japanese lady holding the box of her DSi LL that she bought today:

So, any word on a NA release date for this? Might have to grab one First quarter 2010. I dunno if I want to get it, because there are now rumors that Nintendo will release a new handheld system altogether, either the true sequel to the DS(cause the Lite, i, and i LL/XL are just spin-offs) or a new GameBoy and it'll use the newest version of the graphics card used in the Zune HD(and the Zune HD can already pump out graphics between the level of PS2 and GameCube graphics). So...I dunno.

Jesus, another one already? I only got my DS Lite October of last year.
I'd imagine pixel games (like Pokemon) would be kind of … stretched, is there evidence to the contrary?

You're missing the point. The point is that because the screen is so big everyone can peek over your shoulder and appreciate your playing skills. Which is bit like playing with a home console.

I'm saving up to get one for a show I'm doing for my website/final project for my Journalism course.
I'm probably going to test it out for people that have weaker eyesight to see how it works for them since, well, Nintendo have said that's what it's aimed for.
I'm 50/50 on it. I like the concept and idea of it, it's a complaint people tell me even when the DSi came out, but at the same time the Wii is losing sales and the DS/DSi is their breadbringer now until the Wii gets a boost. They risk oversaturising the market with all these DSs and risk losing their biggest source of revenue.
When I get it, I'll judge it how I see it but it looks really interesting.

It's the Field of Dreams mantra. "If you build it, they will buy..." It really only works for Apple and Nintendo though.

If I understand correctly, this one is targeted directed at old people who have trouble with the screen.
Based on what's been coming out of nintendo, I assume a new Handheld is on the drawing board, or in the prototype phase, but will not be released as long as the DS is a best seller. I mean, why would you?

LOVE AND KISSES FROM YOUR FRIENDS AT NINTENDO! you don't have to buy new hardware all the time. I still have my first generation nintendo ds and it works fine! it's not like with ps3's or xbox 360's where they constantly re-release hard drives.

did nintendo just look at sega and say that was a brilliant business plan we'll give it ten years or so and copy it?
this is the 4th version of the ds ( not counting the multiple colours/limited edition's. ) do they really need more?

And their next system isn't even going to be on par with the 360 or PS3 is it?
I haven't purchased a Nintendo system in years and once again, see no reason to.

They don't need a "next system" if the Wii still sells well. Any developer who wants their new hardware during a horrible recession is an idiot, be it Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo.

So... did they re-add the ability to use GBA games in this, or is that still out?

And here I am still happy with my DS Fattie.
If I upgrade, it'll be to the Lite. No way in hell am I upgrading to a DSi or XL. I play more GBA games than DS games on mine, so losing that compatibility just makes no sense for me.
