Saw it at the London Film Festival last month. One of the best, most well produced animated films this year. So so fun to watch, well casted and well animated.
It will not beat Up at the Oscars next year, but it's still one of the best films this year without any doubt.

Looking forward to this movie. I remember Michael Phillips complaining on At The Movies that it was a bit too self-aware and dry, but that's more or less what you're probably going to get when seeing a Wes Anderson flick.

There's always a dim possibility Up will get a Best Picture and Fox will get a Best Animated. I personally hate the "Best Animated" category as much as I hate "Best Foreign", since its mainly a ghetto to stick movies in as an excuse not to give them Best Picture noms, even when they deserve it (Wall-E).

I'd agree with you on that if we didn't have the year of animated films we have. It wasn't like 'Oh look, we have Shrek 3 and some crappy animated film from a small company and the newest Pixar movie, which will win', there was a tonne of great films produced this year like Coraline, Ponyo, Cloudy, Ice Age 3 etc . If we merged them altogether, I doubt some of the films would even get any kind of acknowledgement they deserve. Having said that...would I love to see Up there with the rest? Hell yeah. Will it happen? Come back to me in January. Best Foreign film I agree with. They're basically the same as the Best Film nominees except in another language, I don't see the point of seperating them.

Yeah, animation was the most fertile genre this year.

Critics always love the Wes Anderson too-cool-for-school movies. Who doesn't? The movie-going American public.

Hopefully I will be seeing it this weekend. That's the plan but we may put it back a week to avoid the crowds doing their Christmas shopping.

Critics always love the Wes Anderson too-cool-for-school movies. Who doesn't? The movie-going American public. You know who else the American public don't usually dig either? Martin Scorsese. Think about all his "hits" in the last 20 years. Goodfellas, Cape Fear, The Departed...and that's about it. Interestingly enough, some years back Scorsese in a magazine interview considered Anderson to be his "creative" heir apparent. You think I'm funny?
