Be very happy if Coyle put in a cheeky bid/loan offer for Beckham in January. Don't hold your breath. Beckham is going on loan to AC Milan in January. He loves playing there more than playing for LA Galaxy. He tried to stay there after his loan expired last Spring.

Argentina with a goal in the 86th minute. With that, it looks like they'll seal their tickets.

And that's that. Argentina is in. And with Ecuador's loss, Uruguay will be the playoff against either Costa Rica or Honduras, which are both kicking off right now.

Wow, Argentina have dodged a huge bullet. I could only imagine what could have happened if they missed the World Cup.
And a third straight sudden death play-off series for Uruguay. At least they have a chance and won't get beaten by us this time!

96th minute equalizer from the American have broken the hearts of Costa Rica. Just seconds away from South Africa and now they have to play Uruguay with Honduras winning in El Salvador.

Wouldn't have happened if Carlos Hernandez was there, I'm telling you now.

Costa Rica's coach got sent off in the 88th minute arguing over a sub. There were five minute of stoppage time added and it looked like the 5th minute was added due to the arguing. The goal came at 94:40 so if the coach would have shut his mouth, the game would have been over by then.
EDIT: Also, the goal means the US wins the Hexagonal, thus increasing their chances of getting a good group draw.

More bad news for the US. Defender Oguchi Onyewu has torn tendon in his knee. He injured it planting his leg going up for a header late in the USA/Costa Rica game. Recovery time is usually 3-4 months. Sucks for him as he had signed with AC Milan over the summer.

Huge that Honduras are in the World Cup, can't remember the last time they were there. I remember them in the 1982 World Cup Panini Stiker album. If memory serves, they got a draw against host nations Spain and maybe Northern Ireland too. It was the same group where Northern Ireland famously beat Spain in front of the watching Spanish king. Good old Gerry Armstrong!

If America wins the Cup next summer, will Americans then care about football?

If America wins the Cup next summer, will Americans then care about football? In the short-term, yes. Long term, probably not. It's quite similar to Australia actually. Most other nations have traditional football entrenched in their culture for generations, while Australia and the USA don't. We have other sports like Australian rules, American football, baseball, cricket, etc. Hell, a majority of the Australian football players of the last couple of generations were the sons of European immigrants. Sure there's a buzz around the national team, but no one gives a toss about the domestic leagues. I don't know about the MLS crowds but the A-League crowds are quite small, barely averaging 10,000 a game.

Had he not been sent off, it wouldn't have wasted a minute of normal time too. Anywho, very happy to see that Argenina qualified, as I like to see SOME sort of Newcastle influence at the World Cup. Jonas and Colo are bound to make the squad, injury permitting. Obviously I expected NI to crash out last night, because well, there was 0 chance of all three things happening. ie. Northern Ireland win, San Marino win, goal difference changes by 7 goals. I watched the game only concentrating on that particular fixture. Didn't particularly care about the game in SM. It was a good performance from us all things considered. To have had so many players pulled out due to injury, as well as having so many players who don't start for their club side (only 3 of the starters for us are first team for their clubs) and STILL get a draw in Prague, is a fantastic achievement. The funny (or perhaps tragic) thing is that we got 2 points from the Czechs and 4 from Poland - the top two seeds - yet got only 3 points from the 4 games against Slovakia and Slovenia, who as it turns out went on to advance further. Alas, I look forward to the Euro 2012 qualifiers, where hopefully we'll get a good seeding, and a bit more luck with injuries, and by which time, HOPEFULLY David Healy will have got a transfer to somewhere where he'll start every week.

Here's the Honduras radio guys learning about the US equalizer and thus their qualification.
This is a huge deal for Honduras. They've been in political turmoil for a while and this has created a temporary peace as today was declared a National Holiday in Honduras.
Also, the President of Honduras has offered a free vacation to Bornstein, the US player who scores the equalizer.

Awesopme stuff about Honduras. If England can't win the World Cup, I'd pick Cameroon cause of Bikey, failing them I'd like Honduras to win, though of course that'll never happen.
Bricking it over the Sunday game. Pundit predictinos are all over the place. Lawrenson's predicted us to win 2-1, which thuogh he got his last one for us right is usually the kiss of death. Merson's predicted us to lose 3-2. As much as I'd love to see us get a clean fair 1-0 or 2-0 win (can't understand some fans wanting a dodgy penalty), I think we'll lose 3-1. Blackburn play awful football, but will rough it up and bully our players. Might cause Bikey or Nugent to fly off the handle, Diouff could do the same for Rovers but I doubt we'll get anything. We're the better footballing team by far, only Dunn and perhaps McCarthy are decent footballers in the Blackburn ranks, but in a gritty derby like this, I think nastiness might have the edge.

I'll be supporting Agrentina or Cameroon. Possibly England if they decide to take any of our players (doubt it though Steve Harper could do a job for 'em).
