Over the last few weeks the football thread has gone a little bit too far in bashing people and teams.
I will admit that I have maybe gone too far in the past when it comes to insulting a team, it's fans or a player. But I'm certainly not the only one.
The keyword here is "banter". We can joke about it all we like, but as football fans we know what exactly what banter is and we also know what going too far is.
Most of the people who post in these threads are very passionate about their teams and will defend them, there is nothing wrong with that.
There have been posts that have been very close to personal attacks. There are posts that have been false statements about players (sometimes slanderous). There have been posts purely designed to wind up other fans (which steps very close to flamebaiting).
As I said earlier. We all know what is going too far and we all know the difference between banter and insults. I wish I could define it clearer than that but we're trusting you all to know the difference.

So is this the new thread or just a warning one?
EDIT* Never mind I see the old one is now locked. Good call. There were too many folk getting carried away.

And this is why I'm glad I just causally drop by to say "Arsenal rules" and watch things.

Does this mean that the "slippery pitch" jig is up? I strongly dislike West Ham United, they are silly heads.

I don't actually follow the English Premier League, I simply follow the A-League and try to give it a bit of sizzle here by posting the results.

Have to say I agree with DiG's decision here, I think the football thread has certainly lost some of its enjoyment the last few months.
And with the international games coming up this week I'm sure things will settle down now, at least for a week.

Speaking of which, anyone have a day, time and channel for the England games? The TV here is pretty much constantly tuned into Sky Sports News and I've heard nowt.

I believe England's next qualifying game has been picked up by.....nobody. It's been shown on the internet at www.ukrainevengland.com and you have to pay £4.99 (at least) for the privilege. As a side note to DiG's message.... I couldn't agree more. Some people take this sport far too seriously.

I think you can also see the England game if you're a member of bet365.

Not going to watch the England game, we're through already, and there's far better games on TV on Saturday, including Russia/Germany, Denmark/Sweden and Republic of Ireland/Italy.

Leeds at home tonight to Darlington in the paint pot (Johnston Paint Trophy). Not that bothered if we win or lose as getting out of league 1 should be priority, but it's always nice to have a cup run and keep momentum going.

So.....what the hell happened at Pompey? I was reading yesterday that they were days away from administration and now they've had a second takeover already this season which has saved the club. I mean, if the club is that close t financial ruin, then it should start selling things and players. Makes no sense to have to rely on last second negotiations, especially after the team wasn't paid for a few days.
And what are the chances that the new majority owners are just as bad with getting funds as the last one?

Was only a few seasons ago Portsmouth were showing off plans to a new super stadium by the water. It looked rather impressive I seem to remember.

And what are the chances that the new majority owners are just as bad with getting funds as the last one? Pretty high at the moment, nobody seems to know who the new owner is, they seem to attract billionaires with no money although the old guy still thinks he can get 50m. They don't have many assets left to sell, even if they did they can't sell players until January. Reading released a statement recently saying that we received £54,450,000 from central payments, including all television revenue. However, for those two seasons our wage bill was £59,370,000. If we're meant to be one of the better run clubs then I bet Portsmouth are going to be spending one hell of a lot more than that on wages with a similar income. www.readingfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~1814911,00.html

I read this article in the mirror earlier in the week showing some more OTT policing, it's getting stupid now. Forget Emmanuel Adebayor. Jason Taylor proves that football is institutionally insane.
Taylor is a season-ticket holder at Burnley, a man of flawless character who is somehow regarded as a menace to society. He will not be allowed to walk four minutes from his Blackburn home, with his grandad, to watch his team in the Lancashire derby at Ewood Park on October 18.
Police insist Burnley fans who travel independently to the match will not get anywhere near the ground “regardless of whether they have a ticket”.
Taylor has no option but to drive the 16 miles to Turf Moor, get on an officially sanctioned coach, and return to Ewood Park. He will be herded back on to the coach after the game and retrace his steps along the M65, before being allowed to drive back home.www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/michael-calvin/Burnley-fan-Jason-Taylor-s-Blackburn-ordeal-is-a-denial-of-civil-liberties-article178567.html

I'm guessing the England game on Wednesday is on ITV? Because there's no way I'm watching Saturdays game......unless somebody else pays for it.
And its sad to see how Portsmouth have ended up just a year after winning the F.A. Cup. Redknapp leaving had to be the start of the slide.
Just think of the team they used to have. Defoe, Crouch, Muntari, Krancjar, Johnson, Distin, Campbell, Diarra, all gone. Heck when Sean Davis leaves despite finally getting first team football there you know you're screwed.
