Robert Green sent off for England, Andriy Shevchenko missed the penalty, but Ashley Cole scored an own goal, and England are losing 1-0 in the Ukraine.

Cameroon beat Togo, so no World Cup for Adebayor... No World Cup yet for Cameroon, though, as Gabon beat Morocco.

Russia and Bosnia-Herzegovina are definitely in the play offs. And things begin to slowly take shape...

And in the big Internet PPV experiment of 2009, Ukraine end England's 100% record with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal that took a deflection off Ashley Cole. Robert Green misses the Belarus game, and if FIFA are strict, the first game or two of the World Cup.

I'm a bit gutted for Croatia, because I actually quite like them. And Ukraine will beat Andorra. Andorra with 0 points from 9 games... I can't see them turning that around at this stage.
Group 3 games have kicked off now... Czechs v Poland, and Slovakia v Slovenia.
Come on Slovakia!!!! You're our only (vague small miniscule tiny) hope of making it!

Sadly this likely means that Eduardo won't be going to the World Cup.
Stunning goal by Glen Whelan puts Ireland 1-0 up against the World Champions Italy.

According to reports Rio was pretty dodgy again today.
I don't want this 2005 version of Rio back again. Can we go back to the 2008 model when he was the best defender in the world?
I wouldn't be shocked if the papers didn't moan about England tomorrow even though it was a glorified friendly for us. They love a moan.

World Champions Italy drew 2-2 with Republic of Ireland in Dublin to qualify for South Africa 2010, Ireland took the lead with 5 mins to go but couldn't hold on. Ireland go into the playoffs.

England are going to South Africa, but Rio Ferdinand shouldn't. He's done as an international footballer, and should just concentrate on being good for Manchester United.
To be fair, Cashley was unlucky on the goal, but I'm still laughing at him.

Any League One news/rumours on who's in the running to replace Taylor at Wycombe?

Another problem with Rangers and Celtic joining the English leagues is the distance fans would have to travel, Plymouth to Glasgow is a long old poke. HOWEVER I think neither Celtic nor Rangers should enter the English Leagues, and if they did they should enter from the very bottom and work their way up. We laboured for 33 years to get back to the top flight. They have no right to get a free pass into the Premiership, Scots Prem winners or not. The rest of the Scottish Premier is about on par with League 1-> lower end Championship. Maybe Celtic and Rangers could start in League 1 at the highest. And don't say it's a farce, as it wouldn't be. Size and money do not give you the right to success. Look at Leeds, Norwich, Charlton and Southampton. All once big clubs, all in League 1. I'd say even further down, it's not fair to deny promotion to teams who would have otherwise gone up. Even in the conference there's sides that have being trying to get to the league for years so it's still not right. If AFC Wimbledon had to start at the bottom then so should Rangers and Celtic. I agree and did say that in my original post. It's just I doubt that'd happen and I think the fairest anyone could hope for before the "its ridiculous we're a big club" arguments got out of hand would be League 1. And on the Plymouth to Glasgow thing, at least Paul Whitehouse's Norwich Union Aviva adverts as a Plymouth fan would have a new angle. And as for England, not bothered but shame to lose. Jensen for England! Forget Green. The first Danish England international, anyone? Oh and Ferdinand & Cole out, Carlisle & Jordan in. Also, no offence to the Arsenal fans but I'm glad Eduardo looks unlikely to qualify. Obvious why.

Few points since I just found this thread.
I have to join those in agreeing with DiG. As a supposter of a non-Old Firm Scottish side, I'm pretty much a non-entity but I'm not liable to bash anyone but I can see how things get out of hand.
I'm torn on Rangers and Celtic leaving. Obviously that'd make things more competitive for the rest of us but the loss of revenues wouldn't be worth it.
Lastly, flying out to Japan for a friendly in the middle of the season was a farce. I don't care what Burley says. The massive amount of call-offs just confirm it.

And with that, Northern Ireland need to:
1. beat Czech Republic 2. hope San Marino BEAT Slovenia 3. have a 7 goal turn around
In conclusion: we're out. We just need to focus on clinching 3rd place and trying to help out ranking ahead of the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
I also have a question for the posters here. Now, due to the Good Friday Agreement, players from Northern Ireland can opt to play for either Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. This is because you can get an Irish passport here or a British passport (or both), thus for example, Darren Gibson playing for ROI.
Now, if your passport is all that is needed, does this mean that uncapped English/Scottish/Welsh players can play for Northern Ireland? They hold a UK passport, so does the rule work the same way? And also, if so that'd mean people like Manuel Almunia and Carlo Cudicini could play for Northern Ireland. Can anybody offer any words of wisdom?

...........There are others?
I jest, I jest.......What team btw

I'm also torn on this, even as a Gers fan
On one hand, I'd love for Gers to play in the Prem and have some truly, truly, world class players wearing the jersey (Not a slight on those we have currently as we have some really good players but man when you think of who Gers & Celtic could probably get........)
On the otherhand I'd hate to see the league I've watched all my life turn into a backwater league (Which without the OF revenue provided it likely would do) so if the Old Firm do leave (Which I honestly can't see happening) I'd like to see them have to pay, to the other SPL clubs, the revenue they'd get normally due to the OF being part of the league to enable them to be competive in Europe
