I read this article in the mirror earlier in the week showing some more OTT policing, it's getting stupid now. Forget Emmanuel Adebayor. Jason Taylor proves that football is institutionally insane.
Taylor is a season-ticket holder at Burnley, a man of flawless character who is somehow regarded as a menace to society. He will not be allowed to walk four minutes from his Blackburn home, with his grandad, to watch his team in the Lancashire derby at Ewood Park on October 18.
Police insist Burnley fans who travel independently to the match will not get anywhere near the ground “regardless of whether they have a ticket”.
Taylor has no option but to drive the 16 miles to Turf Moor, get on an officially sanctioned coach, and return to Ewood Park. He will be herded back on to the coach after the game and retrace his steps along the M65, before being allowed to drive back home.www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/michael-calvin/Burnley-fan-Jason-Taylor-s-Blackburn-ordeal-is-a-denial-of-civil-liberties-article178567.htmlThis is why I'm not going to the Blackburn derby and instead am watching it on TV. I've seen 2 such derbies live, in the Cup, but I'd have liked to attend the first league derby in the top flight in 40 years. However, we would have to make an hour-plus drive, going PAST Blackburn, to get to Burnley for I think 9:50am, get the coach back to Blackburn arriving hours early, get the coach BACK to Burnley, then drive for another hour-plus home back past Blackburn AGAIN. I understand them wanting to prevent trouble especially in the wake of West Ham/Millwall, but this is excessive. There's greater chance for trouble now than in the Cup 4 years ago, but even so....its OTT. Also on Burnley, watched the reserves on TV today. Owen Coyle's still got ability, he could've been a decent player-manager last year in the Championship. Lot of decent looking youngsters on show, but Alex Ray-Harvey and Ben Hoskin both look extremely promising. I can see them fighting for a 1st team place in a couple years. Ben Hoskin is especially remarkable, considering he broke his leg at the start of the year but still earned a pro contract. Both are only 18, but very promising. 1 final point, Graham Alexander's made the ambitious statement that he hopes to spend 2 more playnig seasons at Burnley after this year, taking him to 40. Have to say he's looking at home in the Premiership, so hopefully he will achieve that and spend both those years still in the top flight.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell reckons that Scottish football would benefit from Celtic and Rangers leaving the SPL and joining the Premier League. I completely disagree - although it would be more competitive, the Old Firm generate most of the publicity and make the league most of its money. Who outside Scotland would honestly care about the Edinburgh clubs, Aberdeen and Dundee United slugging it out whilst the Old Firm struggle in the Premier League? news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/8296085.stm

I'd care much more about the Scottish leagues thanks to competition and actual wondering of who would win.
HOWEVER I think neither Celtic nor Rangers should enter the English Leagues, and if they did they should enter from the very bottom and work their way up. We laboured for 33 years to get back to the top flight. They have no right to get a free pass into the Premiership, Scots Prem winners or not. The rest of the Scottish Premier is about on par with League 1-> lower end Championship. Maybe Celtic and Rangers could start in League 1 at the highest. And don't say it's a farce, as it wouldn't be. Size and money do not give you the right to success. Look at Leeds, Norwich, Charlton and Southampton. All once big clubs, all in League 1.

Fabio Cannavaro failed a drugs test after taking medicine containing cortisone. He said he took it to treat a wasp sting, and that he applied for an exemption, but the form was missing documentation, and in the time to get it together, he was tested. He'll probably be banned for a couple of years.

Can't blame Wayne Rooney for being honest - he said he wants Portugal and Argentina, and in particular Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, to miss out on qualifying for the World Cup. Obviously the media are panning him because they want all the best players at the tournament, but England fans want an easier passage, so Portugal and Argentina not being there would be great.

Don't know where this idea that we should all want the big boys at the World Cup has come from.
If they don't qualify it is because they don't deserve to and I don't care if we have to beat Brazil or North Korea to win the World Cup. I just want to win it.

Yeah, ask any fan if they don't want Portugal or Argentina there, and they'd all be happy with that. Anything that makes it easier for England.

Don't know where this idea that we should all want the big boys at the World Cup has come from. It's always been like that. Personally, I can see both sides. I'd love to see Argentina in the World Cup but If Argentina don't go through, it doesn't matter how good team they have (and on paper, they have an EPIC team), they wouldn't be considered one of the best in the world for that tourney. Same goes for Portugal and whoever else big who isn't doing well. North Korea and Brazil are there because they qualified and done the job just like we did. It'd be kind of like when Jeff Hardy got suspended before WrestleMania. He's a big name in wrestling but he pretty much counted himself out from going to the big stage. Others didn't and got their WrestleMania moment.

Another problem with Rangers and Celtic joining the English leagues is the distance fans would have to travel, Plymouth to Glasgow is a long old poke. HOWEVER I think neither Celtic nor Rangers should enter the English Leagues, and if they did they should enter from the very bottom and work their way up. We laboured for 33 years to get back to the top flight. They have no right to get a free pass into the Premiership, Scots Prem winners or not. And don't say it's a farce, as it wouldn't be. Size and money do not give you the right to success. Look at Leeds, Norwich, Charlton and Southampton. All once big clubs, all in League 1. I'd say even further down, it's not fair to deny promotion to teams who would have otherwise gone up. Even in the conference there's sides that have being trying to get to the league for years so it's still not right. If AFC Wimbledon had to start at the bottom then so should Rangers and Celtic.

Finland 1-1 Wales.
Finland took the lead after 4 minutes after what was for me quite poor defending from Wales. Wales equalised on 15 minutes via a Craig Bellamy goal. Was swung in from the left, and Bellamy slid along the ground to knock the ball past the keeper into the net.
Wales have only named 4 players on the bench out of a potential 7, due to their injury issues.

Thanks Steveweiser. I just saw that Geremi has scored to put Cameroon in the lead in their match. How typical, one of our worst players is likely to be in the World Cup...
And sidesalad, yeah it wasn't much good. I've opted to turn over and watch Russia v Germany. If Germany win they are through, and Russia definitely make the play offs. If Russia win or it's a draw, it's going to the final day. Whatever happens, the 2nd team in this group will make the play offs.
