Do you think he made some of the best films in the 20th century? And if so which is your favorite one by him and why?

Yes. He was fantastic. I haven't seen all of his flicks, but of the ones I've seen, 2001: A Space Odyssey is easily my favourite. Probably a cliche answer, but it's seriously so f***ing good. I love it.

Great maybe not so much, but interesting I will sure give him. It seems like he had a real knack for adapting novels to the screen, making a good movie, that completely misses the point of the source material.

Yes, in various ways. Many of his movies were good-great, and even the ones that weren't were very innovative/daring.

Yes, and Paths of Glory is one of my favorite films of his, along with Dr. Strangelove.

Half and half. The only movies of his that I'm a fan of are A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining.

A genius in my opinion. Clockwork Orange is my favorite simply due to Malcolm McDowell's performance.

Yes. If there ever was a pantheon of directors, a directors hall of fame if you would, then he would belong in there.

Half and half.
And no movie illustrates this better than Full Metal Jacket. The first half was awesome. The second half...not so much.

Half and Half
The Shining and 2001 are absolutely terrific, but Eyes Wide Shut was a disaster.

Yes, without a doubt. Made a couple of missteps, but 60% of the time, worked every time.

To this day I still wonder what A.I. might have been had he been around to guide Speilberg's hand, instead of the bloated piece of commercialized crap that we got.

He's...well, what some people would call "indulgent", but he's damn good at the same time, so he can get away with more.
Barry Lyndon is criminally underrated.

Is this a serious question? I can understand some half and half votes, but I hope nobody votes no in this poll (and if they do, I'm curious to know their reasoning). Kubrick is amazing. 2001 is probably my favorite.

he was, and 2001 is my favorite, the film is just amazing and the fact that it was made in the 60s is even more amazing.

Not even a debate for me, he is a legend. A Clockwork Orange is my favourite but Spartacus, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket are all gold.
I've never seen 2001 though, ashamed to say.

I'm gonna say half and half, as I think most of his movies were good due to his obsessive, perfectionist nature.
