Butt out! North Face takes South Butt to court

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Parody or piracy? That's the question raised by a lawsuit filed by The North Face Apparel Corp. against a small company started by a teenager that calls itself The South Butt.

The lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in St. Louis seeks unspecified damages and asks the court to prohibit The South Butt from making, marketing and selling its parody product line of fleeces, T-shirts and shorts.

Yeah, we had a news report in St. Louis about this, and I've seen my fair share of South Butt gear around the Forest Park campus.

North Face probably will lose assuming it actually goes to court. There've been cases like this before were parody shirts were ruled a-okay.

the lawsuit is complete RUBBISH, as it dosn't infringe on ANYTHING from north face ..... NOT the name, and anyone can make and market SIMILAR products as slong as they are not directly the same

Sounds like a standard scare tactic to get the company to fold. All their doing, however, is giving the company positive press and themselves negative.

Oh, and I guess North Face never went to a Joisey beach in the 90's and saw all the Hard Rock Cafe parody shirts for sale on the boardwalk.
