It isn't too hard to see Vince as an abusive father and Steph could be doing all she can to avoid his wrath. So when pops goes ballistic on Shane, well goodie, at least it isn't me.
It also could be that they are actually human and are sometimes nice and sometimes not.

I think the main problem here is that if Shane and Steph both had no trouble at all, it would be "they're two spoiled rich kids that have high positions because of their father". But if one of them (like shane) has a problem, then it's "hey, those evil mcmahons are picking on shane". No matter what, the mcmahons will always be looked at as the bad guys, no matter what.
All in all, there is too much talent in the WWE for anyone to be talked to like that, and if they are, the talent in WWE is probably too tough (in an "I have alot of talent and put my ass on the line and deserve respect for the integrity of the job" kind of way) not to do, or say, anything about it.
I will say this though, anyone who has ever studied ancient history would know something about Alexander the great. If you look at Vince Mcmahon's whole history, the parallels between Vince and Alexander the great just leap like hell right off of the pages. Alexander rose up very quickly, and went around and gobbled up all of the many different nations and made an empire, added all of them to his super empire and changed the world, and controlled the whole region. Alexander died, and then his empire was taken over by his 4 highest generals. They all fought with each other over what to do with it, and it became divided into 4 seperate kingdoms, each at war with each other. Then, in their weakness, they'll all got taken over by a new, powerfull and complete kingdom.
The same exact thing is going to happen to WWE.

From what I have gathered from personal experience with my own father and people who have had father's that ran their own business I have my own opinion on Vince's treament of Shane and Stephanie. I honestly think at first Vince was grooming Shane to become his heir and eventually take over the business, this seemed fairly evident when he brought Shane into the company and had him learning the ropes. This would explain why Vince was so much harder on Shane, he expected more from him and originally probably thought that he was the stronger sibling. Stephanie is his daughter and was always very protective of her, at childhood Vince probably always planned that he would take care of her and she wouldn't have to worry about anything. Things changed with Stephanie's involvement in the company, and completely changed with her marriage to HHH. Now Stephanie and HHH are the heirs to the company while Shane simply runs his own departments. Without the chance of becoming CEO and someday controlling the company he has planned his whole life on doing, Vince's abuse and hardness on Shane causes bitterness. Also despite the change of plans, Vince still treats his son and daughter the same way due to force of habit. Now Shane is probably just sick of dealing with his father's abusive behavior towards him and sees no point in dealing with it since he won't be taking over the company. He also probably started to become more laid back and less motivated causing his father to become more angry. From what I understand he has his own investments and contacts outside of the company so I am sure he can suceed outside of the WWE, which I am sure he will. I wish him the best of luck and hope he does well. If anyone thinks I am insane and there is no way this is true that is fine, it's only an opinion that I gathered from the situation and believe could be their attitudes towards each other.

It's not a coincidence that Shane and Linda come across as the most likeable McMahons and I believe the fourth paragraph completely. As much as I don't care for her senate campaign, Linda always seemed uncomfortable in her on-screen roles on WWE TV. I like Shane more than I'm willing to admit sometimes. I see biggger and brighter prospects for him now that he's free from his mcshackles.

They lost me right here. Triple H was pretty much the final stepping stone that turned Jeff Hardy from an over midcarder to an even more over main eventer. And honestly, Steiner has NO room to talk after how terrible his WWE run was, when he made Great Khali look like Bret Hart. You know, I think that Hunter is a flawed human being. On one hand, I want to hate him but on the other hand? I like him. It's his mentality regarding the business. I think it's safe to say that as he gets older and closer to retirement age, that he will know when to let go. I think he already knows but that's just me. We can believe all this gossip but it will never be sufficient enough for us to decide what someone is or isn't like outside of the ring. People will say whatever they want but we should not take their words at face value just because we're upset with Shane's departure.

Pretty much everything listed in this article is consistent with all the gossip that's been trickling out of the WWE for years. Did anyone not know that Linda is a long suffering wife? Did anyone not know that HHH is protective of his spot? Did anyone not wish there were more women like Marissa McMahon? Nothing out of the Ordinary here.
Oh, and thats' the key word, gossip. This is always going to be tabloid, not news. It's going to have a high rate of error, all our sources will have agendas, and what information we get, we are going to have to fill in the blanks with.

So basically he got tired of putting up with unwarranted BS and decided to leave?
I don't blame him.

Shane: I don't work to for you anymore, Father. I'm going into business for myself. Vince: That makes you...MY COMPETITOR. Shane: Goodbye, Father. Vince: Just a bastard from a basket...BASTARD FROM A BASKET. (Kennedy pops up from behind a desk) Kennedy: I know this a bad time to ask, but as your real son, could you rehire me, Dad? Ron Simmons: DAMN
