Just got out of this movie, and I have to say that I was mightily impressed with it. The truth of the matter is that 95% of modern action movies just bore me to tears, but this flick more than kept me entertained for the duration of its 98-minute running time. A good old-fashioned testosterone-fueled bloodbath, and for the most part it was NOT shot in the caffeine-induced, ADD-addled Michael Bay editing style that annoys me to no end.
I didn't have very high expectations for the film, either. Going in, I fully expected the usual Vin Diesel-type of project - i.e., look at the badass and cheer him on based on that merit alone. Ninja Assassin, however, does a really good job engendering sympathy for the main character with all of the flashbacks to his past, which made the chaotic, bloody action scenes actually carry a little emotional weight.
Anyway, can't say enough good about this film - it's loads of fun. Anyone else see it?

I really liked it. Thought it was pretty bloody, but i have no problem with that. I'd like to see sort of a prequel with more scenes of the ninjas being hired to kill off people. Liked that part.
And the chain with the knife whateveryoucallit weapon that he used...pretty badass.

The dialogue and story are so cliche and silly that I just stopped paying attention to any of the characters at around 15 minutes into the movie. You have the cliche detective chick, her partner, the silly and unbelievable love story, and a mystery that gets answered so quickly its pointless to even pay attention.
Just turn your mind off and watch the blood fly, this one's a popcorn splatterfest with a plot that's being held together by floss.

I liked it, but not necessarily due to a 'plot', which it lacked.
Reminded me of a Friday the 13th type: little in the way of plot, a lot in the way of action/gore.
Really good movie if you're lookin to just go and veg out watching some action. But if you're looking for this deep plot like in a Shakespeare play, wrong movie.

Off hand, it's kind of funny that back in the day when Shakespeare stuff was new critics of the day would comment that it was nothing but trash for the masses as it was full of lowbrow comedy and lots of violence. Times have certainly changed.

I've heard for the actual fighting they hardly use any special effects which is a nice change of pace today in the CGI world.

Yeah, I can't wait to see it. Mainly, because the screenplay was written some by J. Michael Straczynski who was responsible for Jeremiah. (He also did the new Babylon 5, and wrote some for DC and Marvel among a lot of other work)

Because thats totally what he meant Just sayin. He's talking about how the movie is a change of pace from CG fests but the movie is loaded with CG. Oh yeah and He meant the people, be it the actual actors or stunt doubles, did the movements themselves. They didn't use computers to make their movements and stuff. It was obvious he wasn't talking about the blood. If the blood was real, this film would either not see the light of day, or it would for being a documentary on ninjas.

There was CG all over the damn movie. Be it with CG blood or in action scenes. I don't know what you're talking about.

When I first saw previews for this flick, I was thinking it was based on a video game. I guess it just looks like one of those fun, fast-paced beat em up type of movies.

Guys- you're getting heated over computer graphics. Settle down, please. Oh, I'm already calm. I wasn't heated in the slightest, and besides, in a world were people have arguments over everything imaginable, is an argument over computer generated graphics that far out there/shocking?
