I wonder what Jermaine Dye is gonna look like in pinstripes......wait a second....that doesn't even make any sense! He looked really good in them the past five four-and-a-half years. Unfortunately for JD, people are recalling last season. Dye batted .250 in '09 - his lowest batting average since an injury-riddled '03 season - with 27 homers and 81 RBIs. JD started out smokin' hot, hitting around 23 HR and meriting All-Star consideration; after the break, he was hitting like utter crap - just .179 with a .297 slugging percentage and a scant 4 HR. (I think he got those homers in the last week or two of the season.) Dye's defense is really underrated. He works his ass off to get to everything, even if he knows it's going foul. The sticky point in signing Jermaine is the fact he wants to play in the field. He could have went to any number of teams, but most of them only want him to DH. He said he's open to playing 1B, which he's only done once in his career.

Statistically, he's right down there with Johnny Damon with being one of the worst outfielders in baseball... and he's been one of the worst for almost half a decade.

Tomorrow's Headline: "The New York Yankees and Matt Holliday have agreed to terms on a 9 year/250 million dollar contract." All Yankee-hating cynicism aside, the Yankees in all likelihood won't get Holliday. Also, what kind of silly contract is that? I could see that if they went after Pujols, but Holliday? Come on. It'd be a practical number to try and acquire Zombie Ty Cobb.

I mean Cobb was a great hitter but without the speed he just isnt the same.

Lewis hasn't pitched in the majors since 2007 and holds a 6.71 career ERA over 217 innings. He spent the last few seasons in Japan and actually did quite well, but it'd be shocking if he had an impact in the bigs next year. Yes sir, that's Texas Rangers baseball ladies and gentlemen! WOOO!

According to Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston, the Red Sox are "still very much in (the) mix" for free agent third baseman Adrian Beltre, while the A's, and possibly Angels and Orioles remain in contention.

Think he goes to Boston although Matt Cerrone of Metsblog wondered if the Mets would be a possibility. He'd fit in with all the injuries that's for sure ;D

After thinking about Adrian donning a Boston cap all winter, this would be disappointing. If they do sign Beltre, really hoping it's only short years.

Its looking like The Beltre deal is done. Lots of writers reporting that an agreement is close/agreed to.
I've read about $10MM a year. Gammons has the most specific numbers(don't know if that mean's they're right, though). 1 year, $9MM, $5MM Player Option

Ok, that's a nice signing. I remember Beltre/Boras were looking for 4-5 years when the offseason began, so this is a significantly better outcome. That $5M player option is practically nothing. Still leaves open the possibility that they bring in either Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder if Papi struggles out of the gate in 2010.

I hate to be "that guy", but the Red Sox, as currently constituted, aren't a playoff team, and they aren't a 90-win team.
Unless they make a move for a bat, they can lock themselves into 85-88 wins in 2010.
