I think they're at least a 90-win team. Their rotation is arguably the best in baseball, their defense will be one of the best in baseball. They've got a solid lineup 1-to-9, depending on whether Ortiz can come back and produce like he did in the 2nd half of 2009. They do need to add depth to the bullpen and fill up the final two spots (a long man and a lefty), but other than that, they're a nice looking team. They seem to be more focused on run prevention than run scoring for a change.

This whole concept of "run prevention over run scoring" is an ideal concept, until you're down one run in the bottom of the ninth inning. What closer would be worried about putting the clean-up hitter on base to get to Drew, Cameron or Beltre? Yes, I'm sure there is some computer-generated stat that Theo Epstein will pull up that will show that Adrian Beltre had a career year last year, just like how he keeps pushing JD Drew on us, saying that he hasn't been a bust because his OPS was second-highest among outfielders. Again, I'll reserve judgment until the trading deadline, when they will hopefully land Adrian Gonzalez. But I really don't like this year's squad.

Beltre didn't have a career year, but he does provide excellent defense, and one would expect his offense to improve when he gets to play half his games at Fenway instead of Safeco. As for Drew, the guy is a .276/.380/.485 hitter in three years with Boston, and that's despite the fact that his power numbers were crap in 2007. An OPS over .900 the last two seasons, all the while playing GG-quality defense in a large Fenway RF. He has been anything but a bust for all but the first 2 months of his Red Sox career. I get that people criticize Drew because he shows no emotion on the field, but his numbers speak for themselves.

The Mets are "very interested" in bringing back free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez.

Jason Bay will wear #44 according to Kevin Burkhardt. His jersey is available now on Mets.com: He'll be introduced at 11 am eastern. Not sure if it's being televised but it will be on WFAN.

I wish MLB was like wrestling, since at the press conference he'd tear off that jersey to reveal an Angels uniform! And he'd repeat his Boliva quote... or whatever country he'd rather play in

the mets need to get rid of the black. it's been the worst look in mlb since its inception and a return to the '60s-era unis is in order.

I must be in the minority or very out of touch with the fanbase because I've seen a lot of hate for the Black jerseys and I don't get it. I personally love it and I plan to get one soon so maybe I'm biased.

Poor guy. May he rest in peace. After last year, they can have him. With Sabathia, Burnett, Pettitte, and (a hopefully healthy) Vazquez, along with potentially Hughes or Chamberlain as a number five, we don't need Wang.

Dammit Jack, you got the wrong Former Braves 1B! No, but seriously, this move is out of nowhere. Everyone in Seattle was expecting a serious push to sign LaRoche.

RT Ken_Rosenthal Randy Johnnson to retire. Conference call moved to tonight to avoid conflict with Hall of Fame announcement tomorrow.

I'd like to see how Kotchman can fare if he gets full-time ABs back in the AL West. Had a great 2007 but never really came close to those offensive numbers with Atlanta, and Boston simply never gave him enough playing time to develop any kind of consistency. Sounds like Boston will get a minor league PTBNL, a major league role player, and cash in return.
Also, Boston will move Jacoby Ellsbury to LF in 2010 and have Mike Cameron in CF. Seems like a sound move to help lessen the negative impact of Ellsbury's weak arm. The Boston defense as a whole is going to be ridiculous next year, both in the OF and the IF.
