This is more like the original Dream Team, who's opponents asked the for autographs after the game. I hope the Chinese women learn something and work on their hockey program as a result. They have 1 billion people. I'm sure they can find one woman who can tend goal. 12-1 is the final result. Tsch. I'll probably be watching the NBA All-Star Game in Dallas today instead. Featuring your torchbearer and mine, Steve Nash, who also won some skills contest thing yesterday. So it seems he recovered from the cold trip; no word on the Great One though.

Jason Lamy-Chappuis of France wins the Nordic Combined Individual Normal Hill, with Johnny Spillane of the USA second and Alessandro Pittin of Italy third. And now with that Silver, the USA has only not placed in 1 event. Biathlon

And figure skating starts tonight!! Yeah... I realize that I'm probably the only one on the board excited about that. Not so, I will watching and pulling for the first American gold since the shocker that was Sarah Hughes in 2002. God, remember when America was the center of female figure skating? Unfortunately, that isn't the case now. A lot of it has to do with the new scoring system, which rewards solid technique (something that has never been an American Ladies stronghold) over artistry. There's an outside shot at a bronze, but it will most likely be an all Asian podium. The US actually has a good chance to finish 1-2 in ice dance, though.

Arg, I hate Ice Dancing because I love the jumps and throws of figure skating. However, with the US in contention I'll watch. Plus Evan Lysacek could get a gold in Men's, we'll see how that works out

And by a Quebecor too, no less. Ah, it's just my reflex love of the province over the general country, but at least they have their home gold, finally and congratulatory. And they also beat their transplanted Canuck in Australia so there's a boon.

I love how you are all gloating over a Canadian man beating an "Australian" man in mogul skiing.
You know how many Winter Olympic medals Australia have won ever? 7 (3 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze). To put that in perspective, Canada won 7 gold medals at the last Winter Olympics in Torino.
The fact that we got any medal is a small miracle in itself, regardless of whether our guy was simply a pissed-off Canadian.

Is it me? The ice skating thing is obviously beautiful, but skating on the rink, I keep expecting Roberto Luongo to burst out and come charging at them in full goalie gear. But those Russians just now were good!

And, from how I see it, the fact that they won over an Australian is secondary to winning the first gold of the competition and at home. If people can't be proud of their country winning events, then what's the point of the Olympics at all?

BTW, to American 'Crappers, the Canadian media is really marking for Alexandre Bilodeau of Quebec, who won the gold medal in Men's mogul skiing yesterday. (As previously mentioned, he is the first Canadian to win a gold medal at an Olympics in Canada.) It is suprising to see how much they are dwelling on it though. One of the commentators last night on CTV mentioned on TV: "12,272 days. That's how long since the cauldron was lit at Montreal (in 1976) and that's how long Canada has waited for a Canadian to win gold at home..." I liked the commentator who was reporting live from the Quebec pavillion late last night who said: "I don't think that he [Bilodeau] will ever have to buy his own beer at the bar ever again." I *know* that is the case. ;D Good job...

Sorry, I think I missed the main point of everyone's happiness, which was the fact that the Canadian won, period. Didn't mean to nearly start an international incident. There'll be plenty of time for that when the World Cup starts.
