On another note, last night's Cleveland Show was pretty good, with Kanye West guest starring and whatnot.

'Family Guy sucks because it's just random cutaways and stupid jokes!"
"This episode sucks! No cutaways and few stupid jokes!"
Do any of you think before you post?
Personally, I think FG has been consistently hilarious over the years, and I believe the majority of the hate it gets is the inevitable hatred of internet folks when (insert thing here) gets popular.
Years ago when it was more of a cult thing, people would have loved Brian eating poop or just about anything else almost purely because it was a way to be edgy and different. Now that it has been integrated heavily into american pop culture, people feel the need to disassociate themselves from it because they still feel that need to be part of the counterculture. To be honest, I see this same sort of reaction (more so, honestly) in the wrestling sections of this site; i.e. "PUSH (INSERT UNCHARISMATIC, NOT OVER, NOBODY HERE)!" The the push comes, and suddenly he sucks.
I find it a little sad that more of you can't just like or dislike something based on an actual opinion, not based on a reaction to the mainstream.
P.S. I personally think American Dad sucks, as do the majority of folks....Just pushing my point one last time.

I didn't hate the episode but can totally see why most people would/did. Chill out. "Popular opinion" is not a factor. If you can't see why this kind of episode would have polarizing opinions, I can't help you.
People don't like "American Dad"? Thanks for letting me know. I'll stop watching it immediately!

I believe the majority of the hate it gets is the inevitable hatred of internet folks when (insert thing here) gets popular. Man, you gotta be kidding me. Family Guy hasn't been a cult thing since it freakin' started out. Not to mention, the idea of "it got popular so it's original fans don't like it anymore" doesn't hold up logically. Either way, I don't hate Family Guy because it's popular. I hate Family Guy because a ten year old could write scripts on that level.

I'm quite sure that a majority of the people here would disagree. Those who don't like Family Guy have their own reasons (which have already been stated in this thread), but it's not because it's popular. Personally, last night was the first Family Guy episode I've seen in a couple of years. I stopped watching during the 5th season, because (as others have stated) the characters became completely unlikable. Basically, Peter became the inconsiderate slob, Lois became a bitch, Brian became Seth McFarlene's soapbox, Stewie became the closted baby with a twisted mind, and Meg became the punching bag (I can't really think of anything with Chris). In fact, the part were Stewie is explaining that he got Brian to eat his poop because he felt like it is incredibly disturbing, and that's coming from someone with a very dark sense of humor. Obviously, all of these traits were there in the first three seasons as well. The only difference is that despite their character flaws, they were considerate and compassionate people. I could start see their characters changing somewhat in Season 4, but the episodes were still alright. To me, the show "jumped the shark" in Season 5. That's when everybody started to become unlikable. I could probably give a list of episodes, but this post is already way longer than I thought it would be, so I'll leave it at that. I guess what I'm trying to say is that all of the people here have their own reasons for disliking Family Guy, so don't lump us all together as a big-anti Family Guy group.

Just watched it on Hulu.
I can't exactly explain why since I don't even know why myself...
But I loved it.

Hate because it's popular? Watch the original run and watch this season. The differences are glaring. I can understand someone not liking the new stuff.
I don't mind a lot of it, but it was better imo.

The funny thing is that when I read the first spoiler on this page I thought it was sick, disgusting, and etc. After I saw that part of the episode, I realized that, for a second, I forgot that Brian is a dog, and well, dogs eat gross stuff from time to time. I also enjoyed the almost Twilight Zone vibe to the episode, two people figuring themselves out in a bank vault.

It's worth noting that because Family Guy is the prize pig of Seth's shows, two very easily forgotten points need to be made.
1. He doesn't sit around and write the show by himself. When something on the show is there and you don't like it, you have, what, roughly a 20% chance at best it came out his inkwell? He is partly to blame, for sure, but let's be realistic.
2. Fox almost certainly puts more pressures on Family Guy than it does his less valuable work. It doesn't require too many looks at the histories of other smash hits to know that sometimes, fame and success doesn't mean they won't keep you on a short leash. Matt Groening and Matt Stone and Trey Parker have had to deal with their respective networks butting in, and sometimes, they flat out don't get their way, either getting jokes or episodes greenlit, or keeping a demanded part of the program out. For example, Disney actually demanded of Phineas and Ferb that each episode feature a music number. It's often one of the best parts of the show, but even if it wasn't, saying no to them would not of likely been an option.
Hate the guy all you want, but it's not likely an easy or sometimes even enviable position to be in, even if he is (hopefully) rewarded for his work in kind.

P.S. I personally think American Dad sucks, as do the majority of folks....Just pushing my point one last time. Almost everyone I know in real life, and several people on here that I know of, think that American Dad is far better than Family Guy. I personally think it's the best cartoon currently airing, probably my second favourite of all time behind only Futurama. But clearly I'm wrong. I wasn't even planning on posting in this thread, since this kind of thing seems to come up so often. But I had to say that.

Well after re-watching the episode I actually didn't find it horrible, and they explained the odd beginning later in the episode. I am probably in the minority that enjoys all Family Guy, from their start to now and I don't think any era is superior to the other. FG pre and post cancellation are pretty much two different shows but I find them funny, because it's a show where you can just watch it and have fun. It may be kind of stupid sometimes, but with FG you can just turn your mind off and enjoy what's on, and I like that personally.

First, I'd like to state that I'm a diehard Family Guy fan. I've loved the show since 2002. That being said, that was seriously one of the worst episodes of anything I've ever seen on TV. If I wanted to watch something serious (I'm referring to the last 5 minutes), I'd watch a drama. FG is supposed to make me laugh, and this week it failed miserably.

I didn't mind it. It wasn't great by any stretch, and the poop thing just went on too long; but eh.
Though I will say I couldn't help but think how weird it was if Brian is supposed to be 'Seth''s actual voice how weird it was when he started talking suicidal thoughts and all. Sure that's not the case as the dude has the ability to sleep on a bed made of money surrounded by beautiful naked wimmens; just found it odd that he used the character that he most often throws his viewpoints out there with to have that sorta crisis.

Wouldn't be surprised if it is an issue he's faced. Virtually everyone involved in comedy or writing has dealt with depression in varying degrees. Arguably, it's what drives them to the professions in the first place.
