Soccer is popular as a youth sport, but once soccer players get out of high school they tend to not care anymore. So you get poor soccer ratings and rather desperate attempts to get people watching, like the Beckham pseudo-event. If they combined it with Kung Fu,ratings would be through the roof. Combining Fighting and Soccer, you say?

The National Anthem of Canada. ........you honestly tell me you know more than "O, Canada............." if you live in America. O Canada, Our home and native land True patriot love in all thy sons command. With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free! From far and wide,O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. God keep our land glorious and free! O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. O Canada, we stand on guard for thee. But honestly most people don't... nor really should they? I mean in general are other country's national anthems taught to people?

these things. Been popular in Sweden for ages, I have a minor addiction to them, couldn't find a single one when I was in the states, might just be me looking in the wrong places though >_> somewhat off topic but it's sure as hell is largely unknown it seems. and it is that wearing shoes in my house results in me beating you to death with a stapler. seriously, every American I have ever had in here, shoes! all over my damn floors. They don't have Kinder Eggs in the States?!?!? What the hell is wrong with you people?!?! Oh, and agreed about the shoe thing. Pisses me off to no end when people leave their shoes on unless I specifically say don't worry about your shoes.

Name things that are hugely popular in parts of the world but if you mention them to Americans they most likely won't know what the hell it is. Like actors Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill. They've been an enormous success in Europe for ages, even now decades after their heyday. Terrence Hill wasn't unknown here. One of my favorite movies growing up was My Name is Nobody.

I never realized how generic the Canadian National Anthem is. I mean granted, it's fake Canadian nationalism. Note, I said Nationalism, not Patriotism. Canadians no doubt love their homeland, but the idea of Canada being a separate nationality with a shared destiny, dates mostly to the 1970s. Prior to that, the country was structured as British Colony with Home Rule. The Anthem would have Been "God Save the Queen" and the Flag would have been a Red Ensign and a coat of arms.
Generally, Americans are ignorant of History prior to the 15th century. Granted, this has more to do with Americans not having anything to do with history prior to that year, than malicious ignorance. I mean, you teach your nation's history first. It's not our fault that the Ottoman Empire had two encounters with the US. Same goes for Languages. If you could drive from Madrid to Moscow and only have to speak one language, why would you learn another?

Showed on Nickelodeon all the time and the comics are available from Little, Brown. Not remotely popular over here, especially when compared to Europe, but far from unknown.

The real meaning of Cinco De Mayo.
I dont know how many people love to use this holiday as an excuse to drink and act like asses, despite not knowing what it really celebrates.

The point is the comics have been known all over the world since the 1930's but the US never got into it. As evident by the responses to the picture, people in the US are tied to the Nickelodeon show. I wouldn't be too surprised to see the movie bomb in the US but be huge overseas.

There's a difference between unknown and not popular. Tin Tin is not popular but is certainly known.
