To America's credit, football/futbol/soccer(if I label it as this, will anyone get offended?) is gaining a lot of steam. I know that they say that every decade or so, but it actually seems as though Soccer is getting a real foothold in American sports. Of course, it will never become the dominate sport as it is in much of Europe and Latin America, but it finally has risen above being mentioned in the same breath as the WNBA and Arena Football.

these things. Been popular in Sweden for ages, I have a minor addiction to them, couldn't find a single one when I was in the states, might just be me looking in the wrong places though >_> Not just in Sweden either. I loved them as a kid and children nowadays still devour them like there's no tomorrow. There's fake football out there? Well, us Europeans are often confused by the fact that America's version of football is mostly played with the hands. MP3 sagas, though it's not just America. They are a huge hit in French-speaking countries. Basically, those are audio parodies of various works of fiction (mostly heroic-fantasy). Some of them use stand-alone sketches, but the majority follow a long storyline. I remember some time ago reading that there were over 200 of them, probably even more nowadays. The most famous ones are Le Donjon de Naheulbeuk, Reflêt d'Acide (both heroic-fantasy) and Les Naufragés du Survivaure. Naheulbeuk, while not the first, is definitely the most popular and the one that kicked off the phenomenon, codifying most of what little rules these things have. Heck, it even got Troped: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LeDonjonDeNaheulbeukYet the trend doesn't seem to have extended outside of French-speaking countries.

I'm from Pennsylvania, and I love Corner Gas! They play it on WGN or whatever the station is late at night. I accidentally stumbled on it one time and have been hooked ever since. I remember the Asterix video game! Also, Red Green is amazing I don't think it's on WGN anymore. Still, I'm a huge fan. I have all six seasons on DVD, and can probably repeat some of those episodes by heart. Unfortunately nowadays, Blake's 7. Tell me about it. My fiancee is a huge Blake's 7 fan. She's seen the show, listened to the audio dramas, and even attempted to read the autobiography of the guy who played Avon. You can't talk about sci-fi with her without one of the following being brought up: 1) "I wish it was more popular here... I want a Region 1 DVD set, dammit!" 2) "I'm glad they didn't fight the Daleks as originally planned. That would have been dumb." 3) Several reasons why watching the last episode first is a very, very bad idea. 4) How watching Blake's 7 will enhance your enjoyment of Firefly, Babylon 5 and/or Farscape. 5) "Blake is an ass, and here's several reasons why I'm right." 6) "I'm torn about the non-existent fifth season. While I wish there were more, that was the perfect way to end things." She always ends the conversation with this: "...Maybe I should start watching Doctor Who. Maybe that will be enough. [Pause] Nope. It won't be."

The real meaning of Cinco De Mayo. I dont know how many people love to use this holiday as an excuse to drink and act like asses, despite not knowing what it really celebrates. Not an American holiday. That's like saying Japanese don't understand the true meaning of Bastille Day. Yeah but Cinco De Mayo is celebrated here MORE then in Mexico... thanks to the Mexican beer companies. they should at least know what the hell it's all about -_-

Yeah, Stuff White People Like really needs a Cinco De Mayo Entry. It's pretty much seen here as an excuse to get drunk and eat tacos. If pressed for a reason, it's Mexican Independence Day. Of course, it has nothing to do with Mexican Indepedence, it's about a battle during the French Mexican War of the late 1860s, which really doesn't help, as nobody here knows that France ever invaded Mexico, as really important stuff was happening in American History at the time.
