Hey I'm all for as many credible indy feds as we can get. I don't follow them but everybody has to learn to work somewhere before they get WWE's "developmental brainwashing"

Hey I'm all for as many credible indy feds as we can get. I don't follow them but everybody has to learn to work somewhere before they get WWE's "developmental brainwashing" I concur. Also, ROH seems to be doing a pretty solid job of building its lower tier of wrestlers and bringing in local talents for the undercard. There are plenty of guys ready to break into the next level in 2010. With Danielson and Nigel leaving and a more reasonable approach to booking talent for shows, they can save a lot of money on booking and transit fees. It will be a while before a wrestler or team can make a big cost leap. So ROH is in a position where it can thrive on HDNet's teat and merchandise sales even if their attendance suffers some without Nigel and Danielson as the top draws. I honestly don't see Davey as a true top draw. He strikes me more as a great #2 guy, the guy you can draw against. More Dibiase than Hogan, to make a horrible analogy. I want to see Bryan wrestle. I want to see Nigel wrestle. I want to see Steen and Generico wrestle. I want to see Davey wrestle someone. It's a slight difference at this point. But he hasn't yet reached that level of being a huge draw unto himself.

Anybody else been keeping up with the updates to the site?
Depending on what else they announce, I may check out the first show since it'll be in Rahway.

Gabe Sapolsky made the following blog post today: EVOLVE wrestling is here!!! After several months of preparation EVOLVE is here. What is EVOLVE? We urge you to keep checking www.EVOLVEwrestling.com to watch this new promotion grow, develop and evolve before your eyes. All we'll say now in this blog is that the partnership of Sal Hamaoui, Davey Richards and myself is behind EVOLVE. Sal Hamoui was looking into a New York State promoter's license, so as of now, it looks as if the company will run in the Northeast. Gabe and Davey? Taste the Blandness

For those who havent seen it they added a tag divisions list and they have this up now
EVOLVE Divisions
There are three divisions for EVOLVE competitors. They are:
1) Official Singles Division: These wrestlers will concentrate on singles matches. All bouts between official wrestlers will count towards their record. Competitors become "official" either by invitation from the EVOLVE board of directors or by winning a qualifying match (see #3).
2) Official Tag Team Division: Tag teams become "official" either by invitation from the EVOLVE board of directors or by winning a qualifying match. An official team must register as a regular tag team. There will be no makeshift or random tag teams in EVOLVE. A trio can register as a tag team and select two competitors for a match. The trio can also compete in six man tag team matches. All matches between official teams will count towards their record. This means that both regular and six man tag team matches can count towards records. Note: Substitutions can be made in the event of injury to prevent wrestlers from having to rush back early from injury.
3) Qualifying Match: This can be any type of bout, including, but not limited to multi-man matches such as four-ways or various types of tag team bouts. A qualifying match will include competitors trying to earn their way into one of the official divisions. The results of this match will not count towards records.
EVOLVE has sent out five invitations to compete in one of the official divisions. They have gone to Bobb

I'm down. Now they need an official junior heavyweight division that will only run in Oklahoma in LeRoy McGuirk's old territory.
What?
But yeah, this looks interesting to say the least. If TNA keeps moving forward, WWE keeps stagnating, ROH continues to make the minor adjustments to their business model necessary to grow, and DGUSA (+local affiliates) is able to show profit and growth, then maybe there will be a place for EVOLVE and a chance for a new mini-boom, at least in terms of the ability of independent wrestling to provide talent with real paying gigs.

I think, honestly, that's the best we can hope for at this point, is to be able to say that the business is stable. I don't expect another real boom for quite awhile, but we're at a point now where there is a TON of legit talent, and there seems to be a new place to showcase them sprouting up everywhere. It can only be a good thing.

Interesting concept.
I remember in the early days of ROH, they placed a lot of emphasis on the Code of Honor and other things like that in the company (including stuff like the Top 5 rankings), and it was done to make the company stand out and come off like they had a serious structure that was carefully followed.
However, by around late 2004, by Sapolsky's own admission, keeping a strict adherence to those structures was putting a limiting influence on his booking; in a way, forcing him to "color within the lines", or however you want to put it.
So, will the same thing happen here, or will this promotion really invest itself in following these stricter guidelines and rules?

Some more rules are coming out:
EVOLVE Competitors Are Expected To Follow The Inherent Rules Of Sportsmanship And Ethics That Govern All Sports
Examples of incidents that weren't tolerated in the sports world so they won't be tolerated in EVOLVE include:

More to come...
