I love it when people say "You know it's fake, right?" because EVERY SINGLE PERSON words it the exact same way. I can't believe I've never realised that, I wonder why as thing like that are usually influenced by movies or TV.

Non wrestling fans, to me, are hypocrites. People watch scripted shows all the time, people watch movies all the time, yet they never give respect to wrestling. Also, do they really think that wrestling fans believe it's all real? Injuries, yes, but the storylines and such I know aren't, but that doesn't mean they don't get hurt.

I rolled my eyes through the entire conversation. Later on, she and Mrs. Schlapowitz were watching House, so I had to throw in, "Hey Danielle, You know he's not a REAL doctor, right?"

I read a post a while back that read something like this:
"" I hate the whole idea of "You know it's fake, right?" because of how malicious it is. The person telling you is saying it for one of two reasons.
1 - He's ruining it for you. 2 - He knows that you know it's fake and he's undermining you. ""
I'm pretty certain that there is no-one at my school who likes wrestling, so as long as I keep it quiet I never need to explain.
And I don't even know how I would go about finding other people who like wrestling... :/

I got into a heated arguement with a friend's fiance about The Briscoes vs. AOTF ladder match in ROH. She decreed that it wasn't real blood.

I've heard people say that Sid's leg breaking on live tv was a work. It looked as real to me as when Joe Thiesman's leg broke on live tv.

I've given up on explaining to the close-minded idiots. There's a few people who have been genuinely interested in what aspects of it I like and once they understand they respect it, and me.
I had a joint 21st birthday party with my best friend as our birthday's are 3 days apart.. and as a joke my parents got us a lifesize cardboard Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. A woman who was on the bar that night who we happened to bump into 2 weeks ago at another bar, she remembered us, and the wrestlers.. we didn't remember her until she explained. She then said.. "YOU GUYS ARE GAY BECAUSE YOU LIKE WRESTLING! IT'S SOOO FAKE! GAYYY!"
I just walked off because I can't calmly deal with people like that, as my friend drunkenly tried to explain, but eh, what a cow. lol

If somebody sees my shirt and comments, then voila! I've found a pal.

At one point I had to play a homoerotic character in the ring Anyway, I usually get the opposite. People think it is too real.

Personally, I wore an Orton gas mask shirt to school, got a bunch of comments saying it looked awesome, some saying Orton sucked & Cena was better & a few saying how awesome Orton was. IMMD.

You know the funny thing is. I realized that some co-workers of mine were/are fans. Like this couple who happens to share a RAW sweatshirt. I asked the guy where he got it from and he told that he got it on sale somewhere. I then told him that I'd rather wear a wrestling shirt that is authentic enough (And I mean with the designs or sayings, not ones with the wrestlers on there) that it wouldn't be too obvious. He was like "No kidding". As for the girl, I saw her wearing the sweatshirt and was telling her that it was outdated because it had Booker, Jeff Hardy, and Kennedy on there. She then told me "That's why it was on sale".

The shirt way does work no matter what age. I met one of my best mates because he was wearing a Rated R shirt (in a bar again xD) and commented on it. I've worn CM Punk shirts on nights out before, bit hypocritical wearing a shirt which says 'straight edge' on it whilst getting absolutely hammered, I know. Back on topic though, I always hate how people say 'oh they're all best friends off camera!' How on earth would they know? Just because it's scripted on TV doesn't mean they get on any better off camera. Everyone has worked somewhere with someone they dislike, but apparently the world of wrestling is different.

Don't kid yourself , this sort of dichotomy has been around a long time. Back when kayfabe still was in force, I've heard many a fan say something to the effect of "the stuff you see on TV is all fake, but the matches at the house shows are real".

I can understand non fans not trusting injuries completely, so maybe they deserve slack on that front. it can be hard to tell whether it's real or not when you don't read and pay attention the way people here are likely too.
but many of these stories... jeeeeeez.

In fairness to these people, wrestlings different in the fact that the business itself denied it's scripted nature for decades, as opposed to Tv shows and films. Not that Im on their side of course.

in my experience the people who say 'its fake, your so gay for watching it" are always former fans and now think they are too old for it and think they can justify that they used to watch it by making fun of anybody who used to because they are "smarter" than that now
