Guess what turns 5 years old this week?

On the April 14, 2005 edition of Smackdown, this version of the WWE title was introduced. Back then the centerpiece spun, but the look, save for one of the sideplates, has stayed the same since.

To put that into perspective:
-It's only 5 years away from tying the length of the classic "Winged Eagle" design used from Hogan to Austin (88-98)
-It's surpassed the Attitude Era belt in length (which was used from 98-02
-It's surpassed the "Undisputed" length, used from 02-05.

Just wanted to mention that.

I've honestly never thought it was a bad looking belt and I think it suited pretty much everyone who wore it except Triple H.

But try picturing som previous champions with it.

Like Bret Hart or Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair or The Undertaker.

To me this version of the Title will always be Cena's.
Whenever anyone else holds it, it seems like they're just borrowing it until Cena wins it back.

i think its time for a change..i mean cena isnt a dj/rapper anymore so why does he need the spinner?

I understand its good merchandise item and it makes tons of money and thats what its all about but cmon!

But it doesn't spin anymore. Apparently that's suppossed to make it more credible or something.

So? It still looks like crap. It just represents everything I hate about wrestling today. I can't take anyone holding that belt seriously. Really get rid of it just having "CHAMP" encrusted in diamonds is enough to want to see it destroyed!

They need a new title belt, something similar to the new ROH World Heavyweight Title would be cool.

I would love for the next new WWE champion, whomever that may be (Morrison, Miz, Ziggler, McIntyre, MVP, Christian) to basically say the belt isn't good enough for them and commission a new one to be made.

Would work well if they were feuding with Cena at the time as well.

I still don't get all the hate this belt gets, although I would like it better if it said "Champion" instead of "Champion."

Not as good as the Winged Eagle or Big Eagle, but at least it has more character than the Undisputed, IMO.

The biggest problem for me with it is that

A) It's a custom belt. Imagine 2002 and the Undertaker and HHH are feuding over the Smoking Skull belt. Just stupid, plus I hate custom belts as it is.

B) It has CHAMP as opposed to Champion. It's supposed to be the centrepiece of the WWE title hierarchy. Something a little more official looking would be nice. ECW's belts fit the look of the promotion. If this belt was in something like Chikara, Id be ok. The TNA HW Belt craps on this one. And the Big Gold Belt is still miles better.

In fairness, in regards to "A" the only mention of Cena or his (prior) gimmick is a small lock and chain I believe that can be found on one of the side plates.

As opposed to the smoking skull which was front and center on the front plate, and had rattlesnake skin for the back.
