heres something i found funny when looking at the google groups of '92. Robert T Conticello View profile More options Oct 13 1992, 7:12 pm Newsgroups: rec.sport.pro-wrestling From: rtcs...@pitt.edu (Robert T Conticello) Date: 14 Oct 92 03:37:23 GMT Local: Tues, Oct 13 1992 11:37 pm Subject: Re: NEW WWF WORLD CHAMPION Forward | Print | Individual message | Show original | Report this message | Find messages by this author In article <9210132119.AA13...@pserv.CFSMO.Honeywell.COM> ott...@cfsmo.honeywell.com (Otto Heuer #3) writes: >Vince has been one to not have his World Title change hands all that often. >Maybe he's trying to out-do Watts in the unpredictability department... The WWF title situation stable? Think Again. This would make the ninth championship reign since the beginning of '91. 1) Warrior (won at WM VI Mar. '90) 2) Slaughter (won at RR Jan. '91) 3) Hogan (won at WMVII Apr. '91) 4) Undertaker (won at SSeries Nov. '91) 5) Hogan (won at TTIT Nov. '91) 6) Flair (won at RR Jan. '92) 7) Savage (won at WMVIII Apr. '92) 8) Flair (won at Hershey, Pa Sept '92) 9) Hart? This would make your average title reign at less than three months. Its getting to the point where all the major stars can call themselves former WWF champions. Who's next Tatanka? groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.pro-wrestling/browse_thread/thread/e07b6a2d2e0f4c5e/98274a6eaf253c4a?hl=en&q=bret+hart#98274a6eaf253c4aIf people thought that the WWE title was being hotshotted back then? Imagine if they could look 18 years into the future.

Ah, looking back at the old RSPW stuff from the 90's. It's so amusing to go on Google Groups and see what young me was posting about in '96 and '97. 99% of it had to do with bitching about my love of Demolition, and holding out hope for a reunion in WCW or WWF, I'm sure.

I loved the predictions they made with Papa Shango, that would have been horrible. Also to go back in time, tell them the WM 9 disaster, Savage would become an announcer and the later Backlund heel turn may have caused the internet to explode 18 years ago.

I like reading all the old news and seeing how epically wrong everyone was........
Hogan vs. Backlund for the title at Mania 9......after Hart drops the title to Papa Shango, who then drops it to Backlund to set up the Mania 9 match.
Not even close.

Make us wonder if any of us really knows what's going on. Who knows, we may know more now. But back then, picking PAPA SHANGO as the WWF World Champion. I know he was a red hot heel at the time, but PAPA SHANGO!!! Also, I love one guys pick for the Main Event of Wrestlemania 9 was.... Bob Backlund vs Papa Shango!!!

I love this guys angle for Lance Cassidy and Tatanka Sorry about that last attempt.....just re-learned how to do this You think the angle is bad now, just think of what COULD happen if it doesnt become popular enough. 1. Form a team of Cassidy and Tatanka, thereby creating a "Lone Ranger- Tonto" angle. I personally would love to see Chavis say "How" and "Keemo-sabe". It would be a stereotype and a politically correct thing at the same time. Vince loves PC (the first native american stuff, the weak Saba Simba attempt for African culture) 2. Bring in Steve Armstrong as the "Moondance Kid". Okay, so its an obvious attempt at parody, but then again, the Whiff is a blatant parody of wrestling . Maybe the ending will be the same with them disappearing forever. 3. Have Smothers turn heel, and become a "descendant of Custard" while Chavis becomes a "descendant of Sittin Bull" (have to be PC). Chavis will be jumped by Black Bart and Wild Bill Irwin. Making the save will be The Youngblood brothers (Renegade Warriors...whatever they are called in GWF...Brave Chicken and Buffalo Shit) Hey someone said that Smothers was weariong his Young Pistols stuff.... does he have a Confederate flag. We could always bring back "The Rebel" Dick Slater....although I like his push in WCW, I hope he gets to join the Atlas/Barbarian/Cactus Jack/Roberts group. They'd be great...not like the Horsemen...but still great. Jeff Hawkins....hoping Pat Patterson gets his dream of meeting the Village People.....hey I thought Chavis and Smothers looked familiar...no wonder they are there.......... groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.pro-wrestling/browse_thread/thread/4875ce4ef8a7a035?hl=en

"Summer Slam will be subtitled "A Match Made In Heaven And A Match Made In Hell." This past weekend's syndies had Vince McMahon asking Randy Savage whether he and Elizabeth were as close to "tying the knot" as rumours that Vince had heard were suggesting. Randy stammered around a bit and I forget his exact response. In any case, the marriage of Elizabeth and Randy Savage in the ring is almost certainly going to be the "Match Made In Heaven". I'm led to believe that the "Match Made In Hell" will be Hulk Hogan vs. The Undertaker. It's expected that Ted DiBiase will interrupt the wedding of Randy of Liz to set up his feud with Randy Savage.
"The wedding of Randy Savage and Elizabeth (already married for seven years) will also take place on the card. As someone guessed, Lanny Poffo will return for the wedding. He'll be Randy's best man! Could the WWF actually recognize their relationship? Sherri Martel will be the maid of honour. No doubt Sherri will somehow cause a disruption and be joined by Ted DiBiase to set up his feud with Savage."
Made it......his post 3 days after SummerSlam
"sorry don't have anything to post today". Also, Sid Justice will make his debut at the event, facing Curt Hennig in an Intercontinental Title match."
I haven't read to the part where he admits he was wrong on Savage/DiBiase, since he was so sure it was gonna happen since sometime before WrestleMania 7.

I actually think this is pretty cool. It actually makes you feel that something that happened 18 years ago, has just happened.

Not sure, but as a fan growing up to was "common knowledge" there'd been several Warriors. Since no one I knew even owned a computer, let alone knew of such thing as the internet, not sure how this one ever got started. Because they were around before Mania 8, when he returned looking different. I was actually shocked the Warrior is dead rumor had legs to get around the entire planet. Would love to know where it started and how it got around.

6/27/91 tidbit
"Probably at SummerSlam, and certainly after the event, Virgil will start wearing a dress and make-up and calling himself Virgilina. I didn't make this one up. Honest."
Oh my!

This is awesome. I didn't even know there was internet in the early 90's, much less an IWC. WOW What's even more bizarre, is to use Google Groups to read Star Wars news from before Return Of The Jedi came out. It's like finding dinosaur fossils, reading all that old, archived pop culture material. BTW, I'll give the first person who ever finds my old posts on Google Groups archive of RSPW a free WrestleCrap Radio shoot dvd. I don't use the name Blade Braxton, but all the clues are there to out me, and my my former online aliases, if you know me. I know you guys want to "treasure hunt" in the past.

But I didn't know that it was a rumor back before Warrior even won the title. It probably was pretty small at the time though.

(I think) My $0.02: Way back in the early 80s, (83?), Satoru Sayama (aka Tiger Mask) got a little pissed off at the promotion in Japan and wrote a tell-all book about the Japanese wrestling biz. The book was called oddly enough "Kay Fabe." I have no idea what this means in English, but nowadays it simply refers to insider info. groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.pro-wrestling/browse_thread/thread/9e86d9f4f25eb676?hl=en
