I also find it hilarious that the big news right now is that PD got hold of the rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. God only knows how that one is going to pan out. Hhhhmmm, I've only ever seen PD's contributions to the horror genre; how's their track record elsewhere? Or do I want to know?

Hhhhmmm, I've only ever seen PD's contributions to the horror genre; how's their track record elsewhere? Or do I want to know? Just perused their full filmography, and thus far they've done only horror/thriller flicks. In doing that, there's a couple movies that I never would've guessed were PD: The Unborn and Horsemen. Haven't seen either film, and both actually looked interesting to me. Especially Horsemen, since I've always been a fan of Zhang Ziyi. Anybody got a report? Also, Rorschach, I think you're being a little harsh on Rooney Mara. She wasn't the problem; it was the script that calls for "Nancy" to be a moody, emo-fied artist, and do virtually nothing for the first three-fourths of the film (in addition to not having really ANY emotional scenes until that final quarter - up until that point, all of those scenes meant to endear the character to us went to TinaChris). She was written as a terribly uninteresting character in the remake, hence, anybody who would have played that role WOULD be uninteresting by proxy. Just my $.02, of course. I've also come to realize that this thread may have overtaken thread #5 in the vitriol department. Here we are a month and a full 16 pages later (19 if you count the last thread) and we're STILL talking about the NOES remake.

The only thing that is worthwhile in The Unborn is that you get to see Odette Yustman in nothing more than a white tank top and panties...but that's not even worth it. Otherwise, it's your typical PG-13 schlock "horror" film. Uninspired acting, crappy CG effects, and your heaping helping of "CAT!!" scenes. BOO THIS MOVIE!

Yeah, PD needs to go out of business somehow.

PD is mediocre. In my estimation, mediocrity is worse than outright terrible. If they were turning out movies that were the worst in the series, it would be one thing. But they're not. If you're going to do something and at the end of the day all that can be said is "I guess it was the fifth or sixth best one", why bother? I'd rather them produce legitimately terrible remakes and reboots than easily forgettable mediocrity.

Yeah, at least a downright terrible movie is remembered for something, and you could even enjoy them for the wrong reasons. People say stuff like "Batman & Robin" is the worst movie ever, but you can laugh at how bad it is. In my opinion, a truly bad movie has no redeeming qualities, deliberate or unintentional. Just boring, mediocre, tedious stuff. Those are the kinds of movies I can't stand.

Mediocrity is a death of inches, and it usually gives them the excuse to make the same stuff over and over, in the exact same style, because someone's going to be a sucker for it and no one's going to tell them differently until people stop going to see the movies. It's the very reason Form and Fuller keep getting work in these things.

Good news, someone! IFC is having Grindhouse Month starting June 3rd, and every weekday in June at Midnight! www.ifc.com/blogs/ifc-now/2010/05/june-2010.phpWhat may be most interesting is that the controversial Lars Von Trier movie "Antichrist" premieres as part of it.

I hear ya there, and honestly the best example I can think of for a movie with no redeeming qualities is our favorite punching bag, the Zomwonder's Halloween 2. Funny story - I just watched the movie for the second time last week, due to the fact that a buddy of mine desperately wanted to see it after hearing me complain about how awful it is. I tried to warn him, telling him that the movie is NOT bad in the fun-to-watch kind of way, but I must not have been doing a very convincing job, because my friend just wouldn't drop it. I held my ground; I told him that it's a WASTE of celluloid, at one point saying "it is NOT camp like a bad, cheesy '80s slasher flick - it is LITERALLY 100 minutes of your life that you WON'T get back," but the guy was still convinced that we were in for a fun MST3K-style night. Lo and behold, we go out to the local video store, he rents it (yeah, I made him pay; it wasn't my idea to watch the godforsaken thing again)...and two hours later, he tells me that I was right.

PD movies seem to have some special subliminal attachment to the soundtrack that makes you forget the whole movie the moment you walk out of the theater, seriously. At least with things like Jason X and Freddy's Dead it's so over the top crazy/bad it sticks with you, I've recently watched the PD Friday and Nightmare and I couldn't tell you anything other then the obvious, people die, things happen, the end.

I would tell you to tell your friend that i'm sorry, but I think what you need to do is kick him in the nuts and say, "Hate to say I told you so!" The best part was that I conned two lunches on his dime as tax for making me sit through it again. ;D Not horror, but I think the epitome of "bad but not in the good way" is Gigli. When it came out, EVERYONE - critics, media, what have you - were crapping all over it to the point where a lot of people wanted to see it just for kicks. Then you see the movie and...it's just a phenomenally boring, painfully unfunny, and uneventful movie with a ridiculous premise that NO ONE could possibly relate to.

I think DSR nailed the whole "mediocrity" thing pretty nicely. There's times where I love to watch the "so bad it's good" type movies. Hell, half of my DVD collection is from the $5 bin at Wal-Mart.

Sleepaway Camp is an underappreciated gem. Anyone that says otherwise is a terrorist. Then hand me the AK-47s and the shoe bombs because that movie sucked something awful.

I'm picturing you watching this movie with a monocle and and a cane and saying afterwords, "My word! This movie is so saturated with deep philosophical meaning and societal criticisms they didn't even bother to spend any time making anything else about it the least bit enjoyable. Brilliant!!"

Gotta disagree. There's tons of things that I find enjoyable (for both the right and wrong reasons) about Sleepaway Camp aside from all the sexual undertones, including but not limited to: - Crazy Aunt's sudden vehemence about the fact that she packed a WHOLE BAG of potato chips for her son - Felissa Rose's great creepy stare - Pedo cook referring to young campers as "baldies" - Excellent makeup effects in the scalding death scene for aforementioned pedo cook - Ricky's extremely foul mouth - One camper's exclamation that he has to take a "wicked dump!" - The Sheriff's incredibly fake-looking plastic mustache in the scenes leading up to the finale - And, amazingly enough, several more. Suffice to say, we dug this movie out for a party when I was up at college, and a good time was had by all.

Meh, after reading all negative posts about Platinum Dunes I will say this....
As least they weren't responsible for H2!
Come to think of it, what kind of movie(s) would we have been treated to if PD got the rights to remake Halloween..
