Something I felt would be the most appropriate here: why are zombie fans so strict about the sub-genre's "rules"? I know that Romero zombies have rigor mortis and typically move slowly, and the zombie-like creatures in the 28 Days Later films have gotten some heat for their speed, as did the ones in the "Return of the Living Dead" for the ability to speak a little. I have no such biases. I hate almost all zombie movies equally. ;D Well, actually that's a little unfair. Zombieland and Return of the Living Dead Part II are equally enjoyable to me, and they both have fast zombies, but I still wouldn't say that I prefer fast to slow. The rules really matter little to me. I'd rather see characters that I genuinely like and have an interest in living than any specific sort of universe when it comes to zombie flicks, and 95% of the movies in that subgenre fall flat in epic fashion. IMO, of course.

IMO, of course. See, IMO....I think the "zombie" sub-genre catches so much flak just BECAUSE there are so many subpar entries into it...and there are a lot of subpar entries because theoretically, zombie movies are super cheap and easy to make. They don't honestly require a whole lot of elaborate makeup or special effects like most quality vampire or werewolf or mummy movies do. So you see a lot of horrible zombie movies come down the pike, and yeah, a lot of them, there really isn't a lot of imagination or story to it. Just "us vs. them" and let the chips fall where they may. But then again, I think you could make a pretty strong list with quality zombie flicks too. It just depends on where in the sub-genre you're looking.

Yeah I just finished watching Maniac Cop 2, Not bad could have done without the awful rap in the credits though. I enjoyed the first one, and I think I've brought this up before, but I've held off watching Maniac Cop 2 & 3 for hopes of better dvds. That may be foolish hope though. My thinking is/was since William Lustig owns Blue Underground he'd get the rights and put out better dvds.

Behind the times as usual, I've just got back from seeing Nightmare on Elm Street...which was a complete and utter surprise to me since the original plan was just going to WalMart. The people I was riding with randomly decided "Let's go see a movie!" So...since everyone as completely covered the mass majority of the film, I'm just going to post some random thoughts. Hope you enjoy. {Spoiler} ~ What happened to that third guy with Quentin & Jesse at the start?
~ Who falls asleep at a FUNERAL...especially when you're in THE DAGGONE FRONT ROW!
~ I've seen things man. Bad things. Bad, bad things. Dude. Whatever.
~ LOUD NOISE!
~ "Why are you screaming, I haven't even cut you, yet." is the best line from the trailer, but in the movie, the "We've got 6 more minutes to play..." was a top line.
~ I'm guessing that Jesse's cellmate only had two days until release. Poor guy. He's the true victim.
~ Stop lying! I'm not lying! Stop lying! I'm not lying! STOP LYING! I'M NOT LYING!"
~ How awkward was it that Nancy was crossing out the faces of the dead people? Their names are on the back. Just mark those off, you dope.
~ EXTREME CLOSE-UP!
~ Speaking of awkward, nothing like seeing a murderous "flashback" while in a speedo. Although, having a burning man running at you full steam is rather amusing. And by amusing, I mean I had to stifle laughter.
~ Who posted that VLog?!
~ Micronaps are always possible...unless the plot needs to develop without Freddy around. I could go more into this, but most already have.
~ LOUD NOISE AND EXTREME CLOSE-UP!!!
~ So the one girl gets tossed around like crazy while Freddy tortures her, but Nancy stays in place during her dream battle with him tossing her into walls?
~ Heavy dose of adrenaline to the heart?! Boom, it explodes, movie over!
~ Why is Freddy so daggone powerful OUTSIDE of the dream realm? Shouldn't he be more human since he's in the real world? He chucks Quentin with absolute ease.
~ The ending didn't really pack much of a punch. Kind of lame in my eyes.
~ Did they explain HOW Freddy became a Dream Stalker? "Just cause" isn't much of a reason. Yes, I know he got power since he was remembered...but I'm pretty sure that doesn't typically happen with deceased killers.
~ If it is a reboot, then why are you relying on people knowing certain things from the original? Like where the finger blades come from.
That's just off the top of my head. We had a great time mocking the film on the way back. Saw a trailer for Splice (Among ones for MacGruber, Step Up 3D, and Jonah Hex). I focus on Splice because the answer seems very obvious. "Oh no, the freakish creation is growing and is evil!" "Shoot it." "But, but, we need it!" "Shoot it." "It can help us...oh crap! It killed another lab assistant!" "Shoot it." But that's just me, I guess. In all, it was still fun and harassing the movie afterwards helped make up for any price complaints.

I had more fun reading your thoughts than actually watching the movie. Good work.

I had more fun reading your thoughts than actually watching the movie. Good work. Same here. ;D Good work, mysterydriver! It's been mentioned, but I loved Foy's questions regarding NOES2010 over on the DC boards: "What I cannot get over is how they include the razor glove, the boiler room nightmare setting, and the "One.. Two... Freddy's coming for you" nursery rhyme yet given the new Freddy backstory there's no reason for the glove (he was a pedophile, not a killer) or the boiler room (neither where he lived, did his horrible crimes, or was burned alive took place in a boiler room) or the nursery rhyme (the public never knew about his crimes, the kids involved don't remember, and the official story after they killed him was that Freddy just left town). Only reason any of that is included is because it's iconic to Nightmare on Elm Street, but now it makes zero sense. Platinum Dunes could screw up a wet dream." ;D And hey....is it just me, or is Pinhead just about the only recognizable horror "icon" that Platinum Dunes hasn't gotten their mitts into? I guess one could include Chucky and the Tall Man in there as well...I mean, I don't count Myers since Zombie already pretty much killed that franchise so dead that NO ONE wants anything to do with it. And speaking of that....what is UP with that, anyway? Isn't the point of "rebooting" or remaking a franchise to bring it back stronger than it was before? I think that every last one of these remakes and relaunches has failed to do that, thus far. For the most part, these franchises are all worse off after these PD "reboots" than they were to begin with!

I think a Child's Play remake has been in the works for quite some time now.

If PD's Nightmare on Elm Street is akin to a fourth-grader attempting high school algebra, then Form, Fuller and their army of music video directors taking on Hellraiser is equal to that very same fourth-grader getting shoved into a grad school physics course. I can only imagine what would happen if they ever got their hands on The Grudge. Let's just say you might be seeing my name in the news. ;D

Hellraiser was also supposed to be remade, with the director being the guy who made the French movie Martyrs. To whomever just watched Inside, it's nothing compared to the insanity of Martyrs.

I can vouch for that... Martyrs is like nothing else I have ever seen in my life, and though there are some that are thick skinned enough to not be affected by it...I was mentally battered and drained by the time the credits rolled. It was one of the more amazing films I have ever seen, though I will not watch it again any time soon. As for the proposed Hellraiser remake....I had thought that the French duo behind Inside were attached at one pointed, got booted from the project...and then were replaced by Martyrs director Pascal Laugier. Laugier has since dropped out of the project, and rumors were circling that Dread director Anthony DiBlase would helm the reboot...Diblase has since debunked those rumors. So as of now...the project is in limbo. Perhaps, considering how the reboots of these other horror icons have fared, it's better that Pinhead and the other Cenobites remain there? Besides, as someone else said in the last thread....if people couldn't accept Jackie Earle Haley taking over for Robert Englund, how well do you think they're gonna respond to another actor taking over for Doug Bradley?

Just got the Never Sleep Again: Elm Street Legacy documentery today and it's absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended. Indeed it is quite good. I recommend it, as well. On that note: I'm an artist and my Freddy painting made it into the Fred Heads Fan Art section on the bonus disc. It's the one with Freddy in flames. They misspelled my last name as "Robinson" instead of "Robertson," but I'm stoked my painting made it, nonetheless. shivchoko.deviantart.com/art/The-Man-of-Your-Dreams-119883169

I read on Clive Barker's twitter a while back that he was no longer being talked to by those looking to remake Hellraiser so who knows where it's going. I'm pretty sure he doesn't really care after what happened to Dread and Midnight Meat Train. Responses to movie questions give the impression he's tired of movies. His latest tweet actually said, "I have a head bursting with stories, images, ideas and dreams.I can't afford to give my work to men who will ignore it." ~~~~ Extra thoughts from Nightmare... {Spoiler}I noticed a few of the drawings in Nancy's room were later in Freddy's "cave." I don't know if they were trying to pound home the "repressed memories" things or if the set designers were just lazy. I suppose it would be possible that she saw the drawing in a dream and redid it...but I'm really overthinking this. ~~~~ Rewatched Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings the other day. Not a classic by any means but not as bad as made out to be. It gets a bit of the Halloween 3 treatment, in my eyes, but I still liked it. ~~~~ I read that Chucky is getting rebooted, but they're keeping Brad Dourif as the voice/actor of Charles Lee Ray. That's at least one good thing about it. I still don't understand why low-budget studios aren't remaking public domain movies and putting the original with the remake. Doesn't really seem that hard (Says the guy with absolutely no movie experience...). I just wish I had the money and the connections.

Okay so the other night I watched Event Horizon for the first time. I picked up the Blu-Ray for $10 from Best Buy.
I have a question for those that have seen it. Have you ever paused it on those scenes where the video is playing showing what happened to the previous crew or the scenes where you-know-who is putting images into Larry's head and went through them frame by frame?
There is some seriously screwed up, very graphic, gory and detailed s*** going on in those scenes of both a physical and sexual nature. If they didn't go by in split seconds in real time I'm sure those scenes alone would have earned the movie a NC-17 rating.

Apparently there was even more that the MPAA did make them cut from those scenes if you can believe it. What a f***ed up movie.

Sounds like I have something to look for after I finish The Beyond, Baba Yaga and now Laid to Rest. In other horror stuffs, I watched The Crazies the remake at a second run theater last week. Strange movie. I left feeling like it was half the experience the Romero film was, which placed as much narrative focus on government figures like the coordinator guy and the scientist guy as it did on the civilians. Without this not only are the government more demonized, but things seem less chaotic on the grand scale. From all appearances it seems that the government operation is running smoothly according to a strict plan rather than being played by ear. Also it got really tiresome how the husband/wife kept separating despite him having to constantly come save her from mortal danger every time she was alone for five seconds. {Spoiler}And wtf with them surviving a nuclear blast 1/4 of a mile away? Or even just surviving their car being flipped over 5 times and crushed? I love the original film, watch it every year and have transcribed the most complete listing of the end theme lyrics on google, but this remake sucked. They dropped the iconic white suits beyond a quick ten second blip, without coming up with anything half as cool to replace them. If you don't have the white suits it ain't The Crazies in my opinion.

{Spoiler}And wtf with them surviving a nuclear blast 1/4 of a mile away? Or even just surviving their car being flipped over 5 times and crushed? {Spoiler}That wasn't a nuke. First, the explosion wasn't big enough to be a nuke and second the government would never be able to nuke that place and not kill half of the state and/or be able to hide it.
