{Spoiler}And wtf with them surviving a nuclear blast 1/4 of a mile away? Or even just surviving their car being flipped over 5 times and crushed? {Spoiler}That wasn't a nuke. First, the explosion wasn't big enough to be a nuke and second the government would never be able to nuke that place and not kill half of the state and/or be able to hide it. {Spoiler}Looked an awful lot like a mushroom cloud to me, and the screenplay reads "THE BLINDING WHITE DETONATION OF A NUCLEAR WARHEAD RIPS A HOLE IN THE NIGHT SKY."

Would you say it still turned out better than it would have had Platinum Dunes been the ones doing it? I mean, I can only imagine the bug-f***ery they'd have unleashed on such a cerebral (in comparison to their usual milieu) film. I suppose they'd have turned the signature "madness" causing disease into something that rots you alive, a la CABIN FEVER, and they would have added some sort of bizarre super strength side effect for good measure so that in essence, when you get infected, you become a Super Zombie.
Enter the 105 pounds-soaking-wet heroine who manages to kick the asses of a town FULL of these creatures, all without mussing a single hair on her head. Add in one severely out of his element Eurotrash music video director, complement THAT with generous doses of Form and Fuller, and season to taste. *rolls eyes*

Regarding the Child's Play remake, I heard that Don Mancini (the original creator of the series) is planning on directing it, as it was his idea to remake it. He felt that the fans who were complaining about Chucky being too comical nowadays brought up a good point. Therefore, he's going to start from scratch again and try to make Chucky scary once more. {Spoiler}To me, that's going to be a problem. The reason the first one was considered scary was the fact that it was hinting at the possibility of Andy Barclay was the one who was doing the murders, as if he were mentally unstable. Once it was revealed that the doll was in fact responsible for the murders, the movie took a slight detour into humor, which the series never escaped from.
That's not to say I don't like the Child's Play series (I enjoyed all five films). I just don't find them scary (well, except for when I was a kid. The movies petrified me then).

I thought the second movie had it's fair share of suspensful parts, actually. Now, the third movie is a different case alltogether...

It's going to be hard to make Chucky scary again, he's been kooky, irreverent and even self aware of his own movie nature for so long. I say that even though I think it's almost easy to make a scary doll movie given their inhuman nature.

Fright Night is going to hinge on who they cast in the Roddy McDowell role.
Or even with what they do with that role. Horror hosts are anachronisms in today's world, unfortunately. I kinda liked the idea that they'd use Chris Sarandon and do sort of a meta take on the whole thing, but I have no idea if that's still the plan or not.

Yeah, the Colin Farrell is one of the more confusing casting choices i've heard in awhile.

Don't get me wrong, like you said, I enjoy his work...and who the hell knows, maybe he'll pull off some type of bats*** insane role with this or something...which, i'm not sure about. How was the personality of the neighbor that Farrell is playing? I've never seen the original.

I actually enjoyed the Crazies remake thoroughly. Also, Erisi, I can never be afraid of doll movies because of their size. Even if they look creepy I have to much of a "I'll kick kick you" or "I'll hold you in the air then you'll have no leverage and not be able to do anything" kind of mentality.

I think SPeilburg is taking time with his movies coming out on Blu-Ray. I mean how many have come out so far R-Man? Indy 4, Minority Report and Saving Private Ryan. The last two of which have JUST came out in the last couple months.

I mean, I could see them saving those two (and Close Encounters) for big "event' releases.

I've also kind of wondered if he's not afraid that when these films DO hit Blu Ray...if they ARE best-sellers, they'll attract the attention of the "let's REMAKE it!" crowd. Thus the delay on bringing some of his better known and bigger hit films to Blu. Kind of odd that with all the remake-itis going around, Steven Speilberg's films have been largely left alone. Not that I'm complaining, mind. ;D
