A cliche sure, but its worth repeating....
What if...RVD wasn't busted for weed in 2006 & wasn't forced to drop the WWE title?

Jake Roberts wins the Million Dollar Championship at Mania 6. When Dibiase can't win it back he offers to buy it. Roberts says you can't buy titles but Jack Tunney won't oppose the sale, since it's not a sanctioned belt.
Roberts realizes how much effort he's wasted and during a Warrior/Dibiase match he attacks Warrior and DDTs him then drops the Million Dollar Belt at Dibiase's feet, saying he owes him.

68 WPM with four fingers and a thumb. But unfortunately, the brain powering such insanity is depeleted and thus, could only act as a Vince Russo of shitty ideas with no way to tie them all together into a compelling storyline. That and I think my entry was WAY too short.
But now I can ask an old school question: what if Arnold Skaaland never threw in the towel? (Sheik vs. Backlund in 1984) Think about it for a second: it would affect TWO decades significantly...

But he would have had his back broken, which would have started Shiek-A-Mania a lot earlier.

Come on, have some faith. It is wrestling, you never know. And it's the whole throwing in of the towel that they tried to use in a way to justify Backlund's heel turn in 1994.

I don't find the Backlund story particularly intriguing. He had held the title for over 5 years (not counting unofficial title changes) and it was time to move on. If you have Sheik win title any other way you get essentially the same thing. If Backlund holds on to title ... I guess you could do Backlund v. Hogan but I mean they could have done that anyway after Hogan won the title.

Well it could have been booked that somehow Backlund turns heel after that match, and Hogan is the new promotion hero to right the wrongs, save the day, recite your prayers, eat your vitamins, and take over TNA.

What if Bob Backlund agreed to do that punk rock gimmick in 1984?

I had signed up for the forums JUST to posit the following RTB:
Given the deep involvement Hulk Hogan had in the evolution of pro wrestling IN GENERAL, and his whole "right guy in the right place at the right time" return to the WWF, there HAD to have been a point in time where it was all possible. THUS... What if Terry Bollea had NEVER met Andre the Giant? If Terry had never met Andre, he would've never gotten further than the indies, perhaps being known as a charismatic-yet-quick-gassing power-brawler. And with Vince needing a face for his burgeoning brain-child known as "Hulkamania" (not yet known as Hulkamania, as it would've needed a "Hulk" to begin with) and officially usher pro wrestling into the world of sports entertainment, he would've likely turned to the one man in the entire company most capable of fitting this role as a babyface. With "Macho Man" Randy Savage firmly entrenched in heel territory, there's no way HE could've been the guy (though he certainly had everything he needed at the time except for that big main-event push he'd eventually get at WrestleMania IV)...so Vince turns to one of his new hires: "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. Orndorff becomes Paul "The Hulk" Orndorff and begins the media blitz alongside Cyndi Lauper, Lou Albano, and Mr. T. Then, instead of taking the WWF Title from Iron Sheik prior to WrestleMania I (like Bollea did), the title is vacated when the foul play involving Skaaland is brought to light (which leads to the Backlund/Sheik grudge match as part of WrestleMania I's TRIPLE MAIN EVENT, which also changes the landscape of the Tag Team Title match between the US Express and Sheik/Volkoff). In order to crown the new WWF Champion, a mini-tournament is booked--"Superfly" Jimmy Snuka faces "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Orndorff (the "Hulk" nickname is beginning to stick just enough that he's either referred to as Orndorff or simply "Hulk") faces "Ace Cowboy" Bob Orton, and the two winners face off at the end of the night with Muhammad Ali serving as Guest Referee and Mr. T. as Special Enforcer. Snuka and Orndorff are in each other's corners for their respective matches, as are Piper and Orton; Piper and Orndorff advance to the finals (Piper thanks to Orton's shenanigans, Orndorff after Snuka drives Piper off) and Orndorff debuts the "Hulking Up" motion we all know and love, but instead of a Big Boot to a whipped Piper, it's a gut kick, and the Piledriver. PIPER KICKS OUT in a massive display of intestinal fortitude, attempts the Sleeper Hold, Hulk reverses, and since the Piledriver failed to finish the job for the first time ever, he finally puts Piper away with the Flying Fist Drop.
Following this, we start to get a real taste of the impact Terry's presence had, as talent raids go slightly different, WrestleMania II's main events are irrevocably altered (though Andre's presence and on-air motivation as the challenger at WrestleMania III will remain unchanged), and even (down there below the Mason-Dixon) a memorably violent and bloody (but ultimately short-lived) reign by one Terry Boulder (yes, Bollea) as NWA World Heavyweight Champion (punctuated by a PWI Match of the Year--full of the aforementioned violence and blood--against Terry Funk in his only title defense). And of course, with Terry no longer in possession of all that influence he held, things continue to go differently over the course of the next 15-20 years.
So...! Thoughts?

What if Bob Backlund agreed to do that punk rock gimmick in 1984? I would not do that one, because as a personal rule a gimmick has to be close to as good or better than what happened and quite frankly that would be ... well WrestleCrap. I had signed up for the forums JUST to posit the following RTB: Given the deep involvement Hulk Hogan had in the evolution of pro wrestling IN GENERAL, and his whole "right guy in the right place at the right time" return to the WWF, there HAD to have been a point in time where it was all possible. And of course, with Terry no longer in possession of all that influence he held, things continue to go differently over the course of the next 15-20 years. So...! Thoughts? For me would not happen for several reasons. 1. Covers too long a period of time. 2. I am not so sure Hogan meeting Andre is what launched his career. 3. Who is to say Hogan wouldn't have made it big anyway? I mean he was in Rocky 3 and was the first IWGP Champion as well before winning his first WWF title. 4. Mr. Wonderful was too established as Mr. Wonderful in my opinion to be the Hulk. In short, too many what ifs. HOWEVER, I am glad you suggested it. It gave me the idea for a much simpler RTB. What if ... Verne Gagne had acquiesed and made Hulk Hogan his top star and World Champion? This would have a lot of things you suggested in it and the set up would be MUCH easier and the story would flow much smoother. Now this would require some research for me, but it is now a backburner story. So everyone, ALWAYS give me your suggestions. ;D

If you have Sheik win title any other way you get essentially the same thing. If Backlund holds on to title ... I guess you could do Backlund v. Backlund, injured and bitter, becomes mad that Skaaland didn't throw in the towel to save him and instead put him on the shelf. Backlund recovers, comes back, Hogan is champ, goes after Hogan. It's not solid gold, but off the top of my head, it has a little something to it. Jed Shaffer ~Don't look for me to do it, though, folks. I'm far, far too lazy. ;D

What if.... Tommy Rich's NWA reign wasn't short circuited?Kinda hard to do, only because there's never been a clear story on WHY Tommy Rich won the belt, let alone why he lost it just as quick. Jed Shaffer ~I suppose, though, you could incorporate it into the whole Rich/Sawyer war.

Supposedly Harley Race pushed for Rich to win the belt, to give him a break and to help make him a contender for the belt. Like how Kane for a while could be billed as a Former World Champ when he held the belt for a freaking Day. The idea was to give him a rub without disrupting the status quo too much. So it would be somewhat easy to imagine a backstage reason for vetoing the switch back ('No, you wanted him to eb champ, we're going to test him out for a month Race'), but storyline wise... Eh. And I was kinda expecting Jed to rub off on the new guys, just not this soon.

So I was watching an episode of WCW Saturday Night that was posted on WWE 24/7 last week. It was from 94 and the gimmick was that fans could phone in and choose the main event from for that night from a selection of wrestlers. Sting/Flair won, of course.
What struck me was how many wrestlers in the episode would be in the WWF in about of year. Marc Mero, Dustin Rhodes, Steve Austin, and HHH (as Jean Pierre Levesque) were in it. It was funny that HHH and Austin, two people with no chance of winning that poll, would later go on to become superstars.
So my idea is what if Austin, HHH, Rhodes, Mero had never left WCW.

What if Magnum TA didn't get into that terrible car accident that cut his career short?
What if Ultimate Warrior stayed in the WWF in late 1991 and late 1992?

And I was kinda expecting Jed to rub off on the new guys, just not this soon. Not sure what that means. If you're referring to number of stories written, Jed asked us for a minimum of 3 a year when the contest was going on. I have done 2 so far, and as I started in May, that fills this years requirement. That being said, there is a good chance my third story will be finished before years out. I've already done most of the research and have an outline for it. Plan on starting writing this week.
