ESPNU re-aired the Citi BCS National Championship game with Texas & Alabama. Wow, I forgot how great that game was.

Garrett Gilbert had to lead a comeback against an Alabama defense that looked unstoppable at times, and they almost did it. But then the Tide turned on the pressure and that was all she wrote.

I know it's old news, but just watching that game got me pumped for this season. Alot of the top teams look very different, so it's going to be great to see all of these new faces make their mark for their respected schools and on college football in general.

Alabama wide receiver Darius Hanks has been granted another year of eligibility. This year was supposed to be his final season, but now Hanks can come back for another year.

Wednesday afternoon, the MWC announced it had invited WAC members Fresno State and Nevada to join the conference, along with fellow member Boise State — which earlier this summer accepted a Mountain West invitation.

It was unclear whether the Bulldogs and Wolfpack would change conferences. The two schools just last week signed on to an agreement that would require any departing WAC member to pay the conference $5 million to leave.

The WAC source said Wednesday that the conference was open to the possibility of Boise State returning to the WAC — which might have prompted the Mountain West’s overtures to Fresno State and Nevada.

If the Wolfpack and Bulldogs leap to the MWC, the WAC will be left with six schools — below the minimum for an NCAA Division I conference.

Word is Fresno has accepted the MWC invite. I must say BYU's move is totally out of left field but as a Notre Dame fan I like seeing more independent teams

So....looks like some Division-II schools in the WAC area are going to be upgraded to Division-I schools now, huh?

Even better. Since they'll be losing Boise State's gimmick field, they'll need something to replace it.

Hate to be a stringler, but schools like Montana, Eastern Washington and Idaho State are still Division I. They're just in the lesser division of DI.

I didn't actually mean Division-II Division-II. I meant the FCS, which all 3 of them are.

If the shakeup does happen, then the MWC and WAC might look at the state of Texas. You got UTEP, Rice, Houston and SMU in C-USA, UTSA which is starting football in 2011 and moving to FBS in 2013 and Texas State who has made it clear they want to go to FBS.

If the WAC and/or the MWC go after those schools and the Big 12 wants to be the Big 12 again, then that could decimate C-USA. Then several FCS schools on the East Coast might see their chance to jump.
