Mel Kiper called Randall Cobb of Kentucky the best overall player in college football this year on ESPN today apparently. Glad someone is giving the guy his due. Sounds a bit corny. I apologise.

So has Lou Holtz come out yet and predicted how Notre Dame will do this season? I think he and Digger Phelps should be locked in a closet together.

This may just be nitpicking, but can people please stop referring to Alabama as the defending national champions? They're not defending their title. No other team can take their title away from them.

Division 1: Ohio State, Penn State, Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin
Division 2: Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan State
Ohio State/Michigan will still be played every year as a "permanent rival" between divisions, which each team will have.

JR Calling Games?
Prowrestling.NET Jason Powell
Bob Barry announced on Tuesday that he is stepping down as the radio voice of Oklahoma Sooners football and basketball. [Thanks to Dot Net reader Bobby R.]
Powell's POV: The Jim Ross connection is that he's made it no secret that he covets the radio gig that Barry is giving up. Ross has been a longtime supporter of the Sooners, and should be a strong contender when the job given his resume includes NFL, XFL, and college football broadcasting in addition to his work in pro wrestling

I'm not liking this. The ONLY reason they're splitting up Michigan and OSU is the possibility that they could play again in the championship game (which probably won't happen for a few years, if ever). And while the rivalry has been very lopsided in recent years, I think the idea of them meeting twice in one season takes away from the rivalry.

Good 4 BYU I guess. Does that mean a fresh round of Notre Dame/BYU games?

So, apparently, Boise St. has turned heel now.I don't understand the hate of Boise State. Yes, they play in a weak conference. Big deal. You could say the same for the Big Ten and the Big XII right now. Other than a handful of teams, the rest of them suck. They won't get many quality wins. Quality shouldn't have anything to do with it. Other than the fact that teams play I-AA teams that they shouldn't (Florida, Bama, and yes, even my beloved Huskers do it). Play Division I-A teams only. I hope they go undefeated, so that they'll stay near the top, and will have to get a look at the BCS Title game.

The problem with the weak conference argument is that it's based solely off of name value. College teams are never the same year to year, but team value is based primarily off of their tradition, regardless of whether they deserve it. The only measure we have of whether a conference is good is how those teams do against teams of other conferences, and teams rarely play good teams non-conference.

That's why, instead of playing I-AA teams like The Citadel (really Florida?), they should be doing like Boise St. and, in a lesser extent Nebraska, play tough non-conference teams like Virginia Tech and Washington. Yes, Washington will be a tough game for Nebraska.

If Kentucky can't go to the title game (lol) then yeah, Boise is who I want to see there the most. For every "I know they'd lose this" and "I just know they'd fail if..." argument thrown out, all they've done is prove themselves when given the chance every last single time. Just once, hopefully this year, I want them to go 13-0 and crash the BCS title game party. If they go and get blitzed by 30, then game over. This is the most talented team of this level there is to offer. If they win, just like they have against Oregon, Oklahoma, and Utah did against Alabama, then I'd hope some people will finally give them their due that they deserve in my opinion already. But likely, it'll be a half assed "they still don't deserve it!!!" or "the other team didn't take them seriously and didn't care" and rob them of their moment yet again.

I'm sorry, but that divisional lineup is f***ing stupid, IMO. Personally, I would have split it up into an Eastern and Western divisions. East Division: Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Northwestern West Division: Indiana, Purdue, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska Now, those divisions seem to be fairly even, and a good amount of the rivalry games are still intact.

Yes, Washington will be a tough game for Nebraska. A Nebraska fan talking about OOC schedules? That's a joke. Here is their awesome OOC schedule this year: Western Kentucky (technically a Division 1 team, I guess) Idaho (a WAC team) at Washington (a Pac 10 team who might be decent) South Dakota State (a Division 1AA team) and we can go back every other year and look at their pathetic OOC schedule. In 09 they played 3 Sun Belt teams and Virginia Tech. In 08 they played a MAC team, 2 WAC teams, and VTech. 07 was sort of anamoly for them as they scheduled Wake Forest and USC, although I know they considered Wake to be a joke of a game until their program turned it around. At least Florida plays Florida State each year. I'd dare say their OOC schedule is tougher than Nebraska's this year.
