The first Fatal Frame had some pretty scary atmospheres.

Let's get creeped out by posting some scary video game moments~! Note, never play alone, in the dark, past midnight while slightly sleepy -- it'll do some strange things to your mind. Ah Project Zero II. Played the first hour of that once. Bloody hilarious it was.

Many many parts of Ghosthunter are very unnerving.

Bishock, when you find that mask sitting on that bench. You turn round and one of those Houdini Splicers is right behind you!
Freaked me out.

I used to freak out when I'd be playing Banjo-Kazooie and Snacker would appear out of nowhere. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) It was even creepier when he wouldn't say anything... just follow you with that creepy music playing.

Got a PS2 in a car boot sale about 2 weeks ago, and after getting a copy of Silent Hill 2 from my friend I'm playing it for the first time in years.
Needless to say, I've forgotten all the controls which is making the dread all the fresher when I hear a noise amidst the fog and especially when I get cornered.
And I've only just made it to the hospital. ;D

Anytime at night in Fallout 3 when you think you hear something, you turn around, and BAM there's a Radioscorp or Fire Ant right behind you.

Looking in the bathroom mirror in Doom 3. I jumped so hard I accidentally threw my wireless mouse.

Blood Omen. I used to play it in the dark and it scared me so bad sometimes. The game was set up in such way with the gameplay, music, and story combined that just made for a scary game. For alot of the game the background music had hushes combined with screams in the back. Still one of the meanest games of all time. Not a happy moment in it.

On the note of Dead Space ( Which is arguably the best TPS ever in my opinion) How about any of the death scenes? Those are scary as hell and ypu can see in the necromorphs face, a look of almost hunger.. Eh, I don't know. They're really gory, sure, but that in itself is not scary. The only death animation in Dead Space that got any sort of reaction from me was the one where Isaac gets decapitated and has his head replaced by one of those disembodied head creatures, that was creepy as hell. And that didn't even happen to me during the game, I only saw it later on in a death montage on Youtube. Dead Space in general was more creepy than scary anyway, and towards the end it just became boring if you ask me. The gameplay was so repetitive that you pretty much saw everything the game had to offer by the halfway point, and after that you'd just go around doing whatever fetch quest your mission control sent you on and blasting your way through a horde of necromorphs.

If you've played Eternal Darkness (forgive me if this has already been posted), then you know what's coming:
(since we have a "no screamers" rule here, I should preface by saying that what happens here can somewhat qualify as one, at least in spirit. If you don't want a jump, don't click)

I know exactly what is going to happen in that clip, and I am still not going to watch it. When I was playing through Eternal Darkness earlier this year, I knew that scare was coming and I still jumped when it did. I think that's actually the only jump scare in the whole game, making it kinda hard to expect unless you know it's coming.

I tried playing Half-Life, but when one of those crab things came out of nowhere and scared the bejeezus out of me, I quit and never touched the game again.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.
When you see Vigo after you lose in Ghostbusters 2 on NES.
I liked Vigo in the actual movie, but in the NES game, his look combined with the sight of building oozing slime (which is almost red, so it looks like the buildings ae bleeding) along with that damn scary music creeped me out as a kid... still kinda does...
I'm not posting the picture this time.
Honorable mention: when Jason jumps out of nowhere in the Friday the 13th NES game. It's more of a jumpscare, but still.

The beginning of Justice League Task Force scared me because the first time I played it was at night with the lights off when I was a kid. Just playing that game I got the worst nightmares of my life God, I was so f***ing scared of them as a kid, they took you like 4 hearts, the noise that they made was horrible and they freezed you, add that I got depressed when I saw the hyrule market destroyed full with those SOB, oh men Also, in Castlevania Rondo of Blood, the picture of the captain in the ghost ship ALWAYS scare me

Resident Evil 1. Those f***ing dogs. This. I remember first buying it at Toys R Us, going home, and then playing it in the complete darkness and silence in my room all by myself. The zombies creeped me out for sure, especially that first one that's eating someone, and then he stops, and looks back. But those f***ing dogs came out of NO WHERE, and I jumped like I just got tased or something, and I too died when I panicked and dropped my controller. For some reason, none of these other scary moments actually scared me, and that part with the dogs was the ONLY time I jumped in shock/fear when playing a video game. Ever.

I can't find a YouTube clip of it, but in Resident Evil 4 pretty early in the game if I remember right. You are in a little cabin, and when Leon turns around to exit (I think) the camera shows a body being held up on the wall by......a pitchfork I think. That part caught me off guard like 3 times before I remembered to remember it was there. God yeah I pretty much crapped it first time it happened and shot at it a few times before I realised lol

The final Scarecrow nightmare in Arkham Asylum. I thought my PS3 had fried. I think I said something like, "WHAT??? Son of a... Oh, this is part of the game. Phew." Lol. I have an Xbox 360 so when that happend I immediately feared the worst. I didn't cotton on until I pressed the system button and the system menu popped up. I spoent the next half an hour swearing at the TV with a big grin on my face. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Special mention to the giant spider in Limbo.
