Would think if another movie comes out the other ones would see a release on Blu-Ray Yeah, and that's a mighty big if. Last I heard, a sequel to the remake was off.

Has anybody bought Friday the 13th series Blu Ray. I'm thinking about making the transition. Not yet mind, as only parts 1-3 are available in UK and Ireland as far as I can see. Anyhoo, just want to know if there is a Blu Ray box set or do they come separately. More importantly picture quality wise and feature wise, is it worth making the transition if you already have the DVD set? Yeah, only 1-3 and the remake are out so far. Not really sure what happened, to be honest. When 1-3 were re-released on DVD, the first film was released on Blu-ray alongside those. Then, when 4-6 were re-released on DVD, 2 and 3 were released on Blu-ray. And then...that was it. 7 and 8 were then re-released on DVD, but with no new Blu-ray releases in sight. Not sure if it was poor sales or what, but they just suddenly stopped. What's really weird is that those new DVDs I mentioned were sourced from brand new, full HD transfers eventually intended for Blu-ray, so it's not like they'd have to go through the trouble of creating new transfers. A shame, really...The Final Chapter would be great in HD, if you ask me. To be honest, I just think it's Paramount's attitude towards the Friday series. They now see it a the red headed step son. They never made any great effort to give proper DVD releases for the series until the bos set came out, they don't seem to be in any rush to bring out a sequel to the reboot and they're getting lax about the Blu Ray releases too.

Just watched Grudge II (American version.)
So many horrifying jokes come to mind, but the sum of it is that I wouldn't bother reviewing or recapping it. It's awful, just not worth the time it'd take to verbalise why.

I don't think it's going to do well at all. I was going to say that it'll do what My Bloody Valentine 3D in it's opening weekend, but that made $25 million that weekend. So i'll compare it to what that disgrace of a "sequel" to a remake of a legendary horror film made in it's opening weekend last year, which was around $15 million. You know what movie i'm talking about. But this does have the MBV3D type crowd to it. All the horror sites though are raving about this movie. Hell, the Associated Press, Variety, and the Hollywood Reporter ALL gave this a positive review. AP gave it a 4.5 out of 5.

It's awful, just not worth the time it'd take to verbalise why. I used to be very underwhelmed by Grudge 2, but grew to like it a lot more with repeat viewings. As the second biggest Ju-On/Grudge mark around these parts, I'll admit that it's not the best the series has to offer, but still does what sequels are supposed to do - raise the stakes - while continuing to carve out its own identity separate from the Japanese series quite well. Of course, I'm very biased; I've dealt with a sibling death, and relate to Tamblyn's character in the flick quite a bit. Overall, I think it's a good film; not great, but good, and definitely not deserving of the 10% rating it has on RottenTomatoes. Well, someone else is going to have to fill me in on Piranha 3D, which didn't come to EITHER of the two movie theaters around my neck of the woods. Thus, my 8-months-long anticipation goes straight down the tubes.

Wait, it got 10%?
I stand by my awful remark, but not 10% awful. 35% to 40% -- 10% is ridiculous given the fact that Grudge 2 is, at the very least, professionally made.

A big part of the scathing critical reaction was that it was released in 2006, when Japan-style horror was pretty much the equivalent of slasher cinema during the early '80s. Namely, most critics just wanted it to go away, and did their best to contribute to the cause by any means necessary. I can understand it not being everyone's bag, which it's clearly not yours, but there's NO WAY that Grudge 2 was worse than Zombie's sequel that shall not be named, which has a 21% rating.

The Halloween remake getting anything less than a negative score is a crime against technology. Sequel getting 21% is... well, haven't seen it yet. But the Wikipedia entry made me giggle.
Frustrating as the Grudge 2 was, at least the scares weren't of the 'GORRRRRRRRE' variety.

*puts up fingers as a cross* AHHH! Don't mention that movie by name. We call it "The Sequel That Shall Not Be Named"...or TSTSNBN. Anyways, going to try my best to see Piranha 3D. All the reviews and all of the hype has me pumped. This is the kind of horror that I love. Don't get me wrong, I like a good film that can offer up the jolts as well as the suspense, but I love me horror where we know it's going to be bad, and everybody involved with the movie knows it as well. Plus, I think Alex Aja is one of my favorite directors in that genre. High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes remake are fantastic. Well, about 90% of High Tension.

Teaser Trailer for Hatchet 2 is out: I'm really excited for this, but does anyone else feel like they're really overhyping both movies? Don't get me wrong I really liked the first movie, but I don't think it's redefining and I dont think it's the greatest slasher movie of all time.

Actually I jsut saw the original Hatchet on Showtime not too long ago. Good film, but not the greatest slasher nor redefining the genre. Honestly, I think Jason Lives covers similar ground and for me, is one of the best Jason films.

Yeah, Hatchet was not all that was cracked up to be. Don't get me wrong, some of the kills are AWESOME, but it's not the end-all-be-all of slasher films. Especially after a couple years later, I saw a movie that topped it. Dammit, now I want a sequel to Laid to Rest.

so I'm hearing that piranha 3d is getting good reviews. anyone see it? Dammit...the reviews have convinced me that it's worth it. Somehow or another, I WILL be seeing this next week, even if it means having to make the four-hour round trip to the third closest 3D theater. For the record, the last time I made said trip just to see a movie was for Final Destination 3D just to stick it to the aforementioned Sequel That Shall Not Be Named.

My brother saw it tonight. He called it "the worst best movie ever made". Take that for what you will.

I picked up a brand new copy of The Hidden (Kyle Maclachlan not the pretentious Michael Haneke flick ) for $4 and a 3 Disc special edition of Romero's Dawn of the dead for $20. I know what my Saturday night is.
