This isnt a smart move. ITS RIGHT AFTER A PPV. Not only does it cut into the buildup for THEIR BIGGEST PPV OF THE YEAR, but it wasnt announced and maybe some people who dont go to forums or read internet wrestling news wont tune in the next week. Football is a huge competitor but Raw deals with Monday Night football all the time and PPVs will be going directly against Sunday night games from here on out. A "special time" for the episode wouldnt be as bad but this is a dumb move either by Spike or TNA. Raw gets a bigger audience and has more to fall back on. Plus Raw and the ppvs don't go against the first game of the season. TNA is going against the Vikings vs Saints in the opening game of the season. Favre vs Brees, a rematch of the NFC Championship Game which did monster ratings. I say it's a smart move for TNA. They'd get crushed in the ratings, as will everybody else. I do agree they should have went with a Wednesday Impact.

that explains a lot. why watch tna (or WWE Superstars on WGN for that matter) when you could spend more time watching favre and brees go at it again? although if i'm dixie carter, i'd at least have impact on wednesday. It's not exactly her call to make. It's the network.

The first game is important but not to everybody. A lot of football fans may watch for a minute but not being emotionally involved could be looking for alternative programming and will find Jail and not Impact. The Super Bowl is one thing but the season opener is not as important as say maybe a week 16 matchup for home field advantage or a divison title that could impact many more teams.

People have been without meaningful football since February. The 1st game of the season is always a huge deal. TNA just can't compete.

Last years game with the Titans and defending Super Bowl Champion Steelers drew a 13 rating. Thats higher than last week's number 1 show which was Big Brother with an 8.2 but its not astronomical. This shows the complete lack of faith Spike has in the TNA product and is not positive in any way for TNA's product or future.

I hope they at least air Impact Wednesday or Friday next week. Because if they don't air it at all I have nothing to watch next week.

The great news for Bischoff is that after the Sept 16th show, he can crow "Impact's ratings went up 1.1 from the previous week! Look at those demographics!"

Last years game with the Titans and defending Super Bowl Champion Steelers drew a 13 rating. Thats higher than last week's number 1 show which was Big Brother with an 8.2 but its not astronomical. But it's not Favre and the Vikings vs the defending Super Bowl champion Saints. In terms of a draw Vikings vs Saints >>>>>> Titans vs Steelers. The previous meeting between these 2 broke the record for ratings for the NFC Championship Game, it drew a freaking 30. Favre's return to Green Bay is the most watched show in the history of cable. It's not out of the realm of possibility to think that Vikings vs Saints will do a 15. Casual football fans will tune in for Favre (like him or not the guy is a draw), and to watch probably the funnest team in the NFL in the Saints. It would cut into TNA's ratings, and really take away the 18-49 demographic. Barring a massive blowout, people will stay with the game. It's a smart move. I'd say if TNA were to go against this game, their ratings could get halved. And that's not good for their average, because advertisers will look at that.

Regardless of how big NFL is, the idea that TNA will be taken completely off air whenever something big happens on another channel is ridiculous.
"We went up against NFL and got a 0.8" or whatever is better than "We thought no rating at all would be better than the one we would get against NFL".
Have faith in your show, take the hit, and reward the fans that do stick around.

So they have to foresight to see that the NFL will crush them in the ratings, but they couldn't figure that WWE would crush them on Monday nights?
Well - at least they're learning.

At least when the Westminister Dog Show interrupted Raw, USA would you either air it on a sister network or air it sometime during the week like a Tuesday. TNA not being aired next week speaks volumes. The ppvs don't matter so who cares about the folks who will tune to Impact for results. Spike scheduling a marathon instead Impact shows their faith is wavering after the Monday Night Fiasco. No new date. No double Impact for next week. NFL now schedule games for Thursday. Is Spike going to move them to Wednesday to avoid competition?

Didn't TNA used to go against the NFL back in 09 before they did the Monday night thing, and years before that? I agree with everyone else, that this is not a good at all, and that Spike is not to excited about the future of TNA in ways. I guess this is a smart move by TNA, but like others have said here, RAW goes up against the NFL, and still does alright ratings. I would have just moved IMPACT to Wednesday night or heck air it on Saturday at 11 like they used to do. Wonder how Jarrett, and Dixie feel about this? Makes me want to become a fan of Dixie on Facebook, and ask her what she thinks.

I imagine it's mutual between Spike and TNA. TNA will get butchered in the ratings right off the heals of a PPV which would make them look awful.
And advertisers probably won't care for that 2 hour block either. And advertisers kinda sorta pay for these shows to be on the air and stuff.

Mike Tenay: Impact! won't be airing next week because we'd get killed in the ratings! Buy the pay per view Sunday and we'll see ya in two!
What a crock

I don't watch football, and neither do most wrestling fans I know, this is stupid, Wrestling is an alternative to other shows on TV and I have to miss it because a different show is on? Wrestling fans and sports fans are 2 different people, Im sure there's a few carry over fans, but not enough to punish your whole audience.
I know a few girls that like football, does that mean Lifetime won't air anything that night?

I can totally see Kurt Angle getting pissed about this, going to the game, and applying the Ankle Lock to Bret Favre on the 5 yard line as time expires in the 4th, helping the Saints win.

Futurama has more run over audience with TNA than football.
