Let's take a look back at the anime and manga we've watched and read this year and the past decade! The year is almost over so I figured that this would be a good time for a bit of remembering.
Fullmetal Alchemist. The manga, the anime, the second anime, and the movie... about ten years old from start to finish. The manga and second anime is one of the most fun and exciting series I've seen. Great series, and a whole lot of memorable characters. The final one-third of the manga, and about the last twenty or so episodes in the second anime really made me want to watch the episode next week only minutes after watching the current episode. And it delivered... unlike a certain mecha sequel, which was kinda good, but was a giant maelstrom of crazy twists. Really have a hard time trying to say what I want to say, to avoid spoilers, but man... it was awesome.
Also, while the first anime adaptation wasn't as good as the more accurate FMA Brotherhood, let us not forget this:
More remembering later!

The first anime series I really got interested in was the Big O, back in 2003. Giant robots, cool atmosphere, a convoluted plot at times, and some badass characters.
Also, this might be odd, but I saw Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time this past year (December 2009). It's now one of my favorite series, so I wish I would have seen it sooner.

I kinda fell out of the loop for awhile, and honestly I'm still very out of the loop, but I've watched a couple this year.
RahXephon was pretty awesome. For a mecha series, it really wasn't especially action-oriented, but it had a great story, awesome characters, and some really cool ideas. I loved it.
I also just this year got around to Trigun, which was AMAAAZING. Nightow is a damn genius, and it's easily one of the best of all time.

Ah yes the noughties, a great time for many different comedic anime. While most people will point to the more action and mature oriented stuff I personally have a preference towards the most slice of life sort of comedy. But what shall I point to as the funniest anime?
Cromartie High. That's right, others may point to your Azumanga Daiohs and Lucky Stars (both great series but this is greater) but this is a series that is just brilliant. It may have one of the best english dubs for an anime ever also.
Honorable mention of course to FLCL.

Comedy, eh? It's not slice of life but I present to you Seto no Hanayome/My Bride is a Mermaid:
Okay, the anime OP doesn't really do it much justice, but this one really made me laugh a lot, and several times the kind of laugh that left me out of breath. Slightly kinda like School Rumble, in a sense that it's a school comedy, with crazy stuff going on. Crazier stuff than School Rumble. Like... a character like the Terminator, shooting laser beams from his eyes while cross-dressing as a high school girl kind of crazy, and it works.

I've picked it up because some of the imagery is based on "The Dandelion Girl" by Robert Young, my fave sci-fi story. Must watch it soon. These past few years, the main ones I've watched have been Clannad, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Death Note and Rebuild of Evangelion. All are highly recommended.

Before I sleep, Bakemonogatari.
Hm, for some reason, after watching the first episode it took me several months before watching the second episode, followed by watching the rest of the available episodes. Loads and loads and loads of conversations combined with Shaft's odd animations, and supernatural stuff happening. Strange, but definitely good. One of the final episodes was mostly done in a car with not so much animation at all, in a way, and it's one of my favorite episodes in anime.

Here's some of the 2000's anime that I watched over time:
*Azumanga Daioh *Gundam SEED: Watched it for the first time this year, and I think that it's a good Gundam show, though there are too many flashbacks, and I still prefer Wing as my favorite AU Gundam *Tenchi Muyo GXP *I My Me! Strawberry Eggs

I'm kinda new to Anime and the only ones besides Outlaw Star I've been able to finish were due to Netflix On Demand. But after watching the anime and loving it. I went out and found the Manga of Soul Eater and loved it.

Ah, now I remember. I love slice of life anime since it's fun and way more relaxing than action-focused anime series. A couple of years ago, people would say that I am a Lucky Star fan, and that's not really true. Well, I definitely do like Lucky Star but it's not really my favorite series, in slice or life or in general anime. Liked Azumanga as well but it falls somewhere close to Lucky Star. Ditto to Cromartie. Here's my favorite:
Astro Fighter Sunred, hooray for both seasons. Less crazy and bizarre than Cromartie, but definitely not normal. Also the bright colors of the animation makes it kinda stand out more.

I've been out of the loop for a long time. Back in 04-07 I was a huge fan. Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal, Excel Saga, Lain, and Arimatage: Duel Matrix are at the top of my list.

Even through been watching since the 90's. For the 2000's I mostly been watching Yu Yu Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha during the high school years. Got into One Piece during senior year of high school. Watch Bleach during the first year of College was hooked onto it until the series started really going downhill.
Beside One Piece right now, the anime that I'm mostly focusing on is Gintama. If you do not what Gintama is. It's the most insane anime that I ever seen. Can't wait until for the new season of Gintama to start in April.

I haven't watched much anime but the most that I've watched has been pretty good. Anyway, series I've watched in the past few years. . .
Sailor Moon Pokemon Digimon Ultimate Muscle Chobits Lucky Star Hand Maid May Azumanga Daioh Ghost in the Shell Scrapped Princess Initial D Zoids One Piece (Watched it up until a few episodes after that guy with the huge nose got introduced, then for some reason stopped watching. Might have been because I got rid of Sky or maybe because Toonami cancelled it, can't remember)
Also tried Inuyusha but couldn't get into it at all and Bleach which I also disliked

I've watched too much anime for my own good this decade, but since it was (kinda) of an old habit of mine when I was a kid and digged every cartoon there was, I suppose it's only natural. I do have to say the Hajime no Ippo got my "hot-blooded, wanna get in the ring and fight" heart like no other, Major made me like baseball (I hated it before watching this series), got hooked on almost everything with "Gundam" in its name, same with the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise (and there's ZEXAL already debuting next year), and somewhat liked (as in: I like this so much I dunno why) fanservice-heavy stuff like Zero no Tsukaima and To LOVE-Ru. And then there's Martian Successor Nadesico

I've seen a few hundred series in the 2000s. However, now I'm more of a manga guy, for several reasons:
1) More original series than in anime. 2) The ratio of moe-ecchi-fanservice filled dredge to series that don't rely on these is less than that in anime, where it is 80% of the aforementioned dredge. 3) In the time it takes me to watch one anime episode, I'm usually through with 2 volumes worth of manga chapters, ie about 10 to 12 chapters. I read much faster than I can watch.
FMA and Negima are still my top two favorites. And no, I don't include Negima in with the moe-ecchi-fanservice filled dredge, because unlike most of that crap, Negima is actually good, it has an actual story, it is more action based, and Ken Akamatsu didn't want it to be filled with fanservice and ecchi, but his higher ups forced him to include fanservice and ecchi in the series.
I no longer do my end of the year anime and manga awards namely due to my lack of watching anime now and focusing on manga. That being said, if I did run them this year, FMA/FMA: Brotherhood would sweep most of my usual categories, as it was easily the best series this year.
Oh, and all of you guys need to read Franken Fran. Like, now. It is an awesome manga series.
