Give me a break the only crock is that they are being punished for selling their own possessions. Meanwhile the starting QB in the national championship game was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars and he is still playing. Look on the bright side if Arkansas wants the 2011 Sugar Bowl trophy then I'm sure our players will be happy to sell it to them. Okay, that last line made me laugh sir. Well played. And for the record,I would've been in the thread supporting you Gotch but I don't like to post online when a big game is on because I'm afraid I'll say something and jinx the team I'm pulling for. I know that's stupid but that's how I am. If I'm watching a game with friends,I don't say much until the game is over if a team I want to win is playing. If it's two teams I don't care about,I'll gladly joke around. Glad the Buckeyes won though. They aren't my favorite team but when I was around 10 or 11,I wanted to go there because I heard they had a good veterinary school. I used to wear an OSU sweater around all the time and just started supporting them as long as they weren't playing WVU or Marshall. OSU has one of the best most competitive vet schools in the nation. Good luck getting in though. In my day to day job I run into a lot of vet students and most are saying that at this point it is easier to just switch to human medicine rather then become a vet.

Can someone explain to me why its such a huge deal the suspended OSU players played tonight? They sold their stuff. Yes, its illegal but it does nothing to affect their performance on the field nor does it tarnish the school in anyway. Newton was (allegedly) payed to attend Auburn so I could understand his suspension, but OSU itself did nothing wrong here. The rule may be stupid but they broke the rule. It's that simple, you do the crime, you do the time. The NCAA should be ashamed of themselves for making them have to sit a weak non-conference schedule next season instead of taking away the privilege that playing in a bowl game is. And before one of you OSU fans comes and tells me that they said they would return so that's why they got to play, take a good long look in the mirror and tell me that if you were to be a high draft-pick who could get to play for money, would you miss half your season and lose the ability to market yourself to those scouts and teams who want you know? It's a sham, the whole college sports system is a sham, but football is the biggest sham of them all.

As a Falcons fan, I want to say this to Petrino.
Maybe next year.

I'm not an Ohio St. fan and I'm not a fan of Petrino either, but I have to admit at least the game was fun to watch and was close towards the end, so I have to give both teams credit for that. Definitely the second best BCS game this year. (Rose Bowl being first).
Arkansas made too many mistakes on offense tonight. It seemed like to me they played really good defense in the second half. If they could have got it together on offense, they would have won the game.

Yeah,I was told it was extremely difficult to get into. I ended up not going into that field anyway.

Better get to eating. Most of them need their senior year if they want any chance at having a decent draft status. Honestly I'll be surprised if any of them leave. If they leave they gain a stigma when they enter the NFL and none of them will be going above the 3rd if they are lucky. If they stay chances are they increase their draft status, and won't look like punks with character issues to the teams drafting them. I could be wrong but I doubt any of them declare.

Newton was (allegedly) payed to attend Auburn so I could understand his suspension, but OSU itself did nothing wrong here. Well the big stink, at least from what I've seen is, why should they get to play in the post season bowl game for their team when they've broken the rules. Making them miss games next year means jack when most of them are juniors or above and thus can declare for the NFL draft and leave Ohio State in the dust whilst flipping them off along the way. I mean sure, they had to promise their coach that they would commit to returning to OSU next year and miss their first 5 games, but let's be realistic, they could've lied through their teeth. Pretty much, what I'm getting at is making them miss the Sugar Bowl could've been, for a few of the players at least, the only way to make sure they were punished. Instead these guys were basically allowed to have their cake and eat it too, as they got to play in, and win, the Sugar Bowl, and if they want to, can declare for the NFL draft and go unpunished. The thing is, I don't see a single one of them actually going the the draft. Outside of possibly Pryor, none of them are close to being ready for the NFL. They'd get drafted in 4th and 5th rounds and then probably be cut in under two years. I can understand why Arkansas would be upset, but they should more upset that they just lost in general. Especially when you consider that OSU was pretty much trying to give the game away at times. There all serving their 5 game suspensions next year. Arkansas should just be straight up pissed that they lost, not that they didn't get to face a less than 100% OSU team. They face a 5 game suspension if they don't enter the NFL. If they enter the NFL Draft, then there will be no suspension. Arkansas played a team with 5 players who were ruled ineligible, but still allowed to play. Hey Reggie Bush's infractions didn't affect his on field performance, but USC had to vacate a National Title because of him being ineligible. Now you've got 5 freaking players on one team, and they're allowed to play. And Ohio State won't have to give up the Sugar Bowl victory. USC has to be pissed as well. I agree that Cam shouldn't be playing. The thing is that Bush was ruled ineligible because of something his school did for him. Here the school did nothing wrong, thus it makes no sense for them to be stripped of the championship.

At the same time they lose 5 games worth of stats, playing time, and exposure to NFL scouts, so either way they take a hit to their draft prospects. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

True, but they do get to hone their skills and understand of the game for an extra year, which they all need to do. Besides, most of the games are easy ones except for the Miami game and then the Michigan State game. I think they might be able to squeak past Miami but MSU is gonna be tough. And everything aside, can we all agree on one thing: Cameron Heyward is a beast and proved himself as a Top 10-15 pick.

One thing we can't forget is that one thing that often changes a player's draft stock, sometimes even drastically, is the Combine, so they could make up for the weaker stats with strong showings at the Combine.

They aren't losing anything if they stay. College stats mean nothing to NFL scouts. The scouts are only interested in how players look against the best teams in the NCAA they couldn't give a crap about how Pryor, and the rest do against Kent State, or if the pad out meaningless stats against cup cakes. If they come back and play well in their final games, and do great in the bowl game they will help their draft status a lot like jumping up one or two rounds a lot. Also in Pryor's case this would be a horrible year to declare if he wants to be an NFL QB.

Todd Blackledge with the line of the year. OK thats funny as heck even though I'm not sure how much better the game could have been for him. I'd much rather call that game than most of what we've gotten so far this bowl season.

The thing is that Bush was ruled ineligible because of something his school did for him. Here the school did nothing wrong, thus it makes no sense for them to be stripped of the championship. They were only able to hit USC with "Lack of institutional control", everything was on Reggie receiving benefits and the agent mess. So USC should get their title back if Ohio State can compete in a Sugar Bowl with 5 ineligible players. Hell, AJ Green got suspended earlier this year for selling his jersey and he had to serve his suspension right away. Those 5 guys, and Cam Newton should not be allowed to play in their bowls. Yeah, some of the team may not have done anything wrong, but those players still did.

Outside of the BCS Championship Game Bowl games are no more than post-season exhibitions with cute names.
If they want to make a real statement...suspend them for the first five CONFERENCE games next season.
That's a real punishment.
