Hell, I kinda have to pity Eddie Murphy now. The dude is 49 and he's still making films for little kids. That's.....that's just low..... Nothing wrong with making movies for little kids. Something wrong with making shitty movie for little kids.

Nicolas Cage had a legacy?

I had to vote Murphy because, even though both tend to be in a lot more bad than good now, Murphy started higher than Cage in my eyes. His fall was greater.

Nic Cage. I don't even consider Eddie Murphy an actor. He's a stand up comic who transitioned to movies. Any success he has there is just icing on the cake that is his career.

Before even clicking in this thread, I thought of Nic Cage. So him. Didn't he say he was done making movies like two years ago? Not with his debts he is. I say Eddie, though. It's not how you start, it's how you finish, and I don't think anything he's been in lately will top Eddie's... well, I should follow Thumper's advice.

Of those two I pick Eddie Murphy, but the correct answer is Mel Gibson.

I'd say neither. Most actors make a lot of mediocre movies, and are usually only remembered for their best ones. I think their legacies are safe thanks to things like Beverly Hills Cop and Moonstruck.

THIS. If you take De Niro's work from the mid 70's to the mid 90's, you've got some of the strongest performances of all time. Murphy's crappy kid's flicks and Cage's sheer insanity pale in comparison to De Niro deciding to just cash checks for the past 15 years.

Murphy is the type of guy who while has made stinkers in the last few years, one strong role will make him famous again. Cage does not have that luxury.

Like you said, he's put in 20-something years of absolutely great work. In my eyes, DeNiro has earned the right to just cash checks. Where is Nicolas Cage's "Taxi Driver"? Where is Eddie Murphy's "Mean Streets"?

I was thinking Lindsay Lohan, but she like Robert Downey, Jr. could make a comeback after years of awful press and self destruction.

It's funny, both have actually had at least one amazing role in the middle of impossible dreck (Eddie had his role in Dreamgirls, for which he got nominated for an Oscar, and Nic had Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, which was so batshit insane, it was awe-inspiring). I've actually grown to like Nic better with the loonier roles he's been taking lately, so my vote goes with Murphy.

Eddie Murphy, his reputation was good, Nic Cage made like four good movies, tops.
