The KOTR Title is indeed the launching pad for anyone's career. A lot of times, people have benefited from this accolade. Many stars such as Steve Austin, Triple H, Edge, Brock Lesnar and others won KOTR and the sky was the limit for them. But for others...they weren't so successful. Lets take a look at the ones who went from King..to Court Jester.
Mabel - Won KOTR after defeating The Undertaker and Savio Vega and became the 1995 King of the Ring. After squashing Razor Ramon and Savio, he had in what many say a HORRIBLE match with Diesel at Summerslam 95 for the WWF Title. Sadly, all the King's horses and all the King's men weren't able to put Mabel back together again as Big Daddy Cool dethroned The King and retained the belt. Soon after, Undertaker avenged his loss to him at KOTR and sent him out of the WWF via casket.
Ken Shamrock - Shamrock won the King of the Ring in 1998, it seemed he was poised to reach the next level...but that didn't happen. I mean sure he won the Intercontinental Title and Tag Team Titles when he joined Vince McMahon's Corpration, but he became just another guy. Soon after his KOTR Title was forgotten.
Billy Gunn - Seriously..who decided to give this sadsack a push? Bad Ass Billy Gunn?...More like Dumb Ass Billy Gunn. After he won KOTR in 1999 he did...nothing. The immediate night after he won KOTR..he Chyna and HHH have a feud with X-Pac and Road Dogg for the "Rights" to the DX Name. Like Shamrock, his KOTR reign was a forgotten one as he'd go on to have even less success throughout the years. He would not be remembered for his King of the Ring win..but for nearly marrying a dude. Lets hope Sheamus doesn't Billy Gunn his KOTR win.
William Regal - Unlike all the others I've mentioned, he was actually destined for great things. He was on the biggest push of his life in 2008 when he won the crown..but got Wellness'd. When he came back he was used as nothing but fodder for Christian on ECW. These days he's not doing much of anything.
Which King had less of an impact?
